Cambodia urges businesses to take part in China-Asean Expo in Nanning
PHNOM PENH: Cambodia has encouraged businesspeople, entrepreneurs, investors and producers to participate in the 22nd China-Asean Expo (CAEXPO), scheduled for Sept 17-21 in Nanning, capital city of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, said a Ministry of Commerce's statement on Saturday (May 3).
The CAEXPO is a significant platform for business and investment exchange between the Association of South-East Asian Nations (Asean) member states and China, the statement said.
Thong Mengdavid, a lecturer at the Institute for International Studies and Public Policy of the Royal University of Phnom Penh, said the annual expo serves as a platform to enhance economic collaboration, promote trade, and foster regional integration between China and Asean member states.
"The 22nd China-Asean Expo will facilitate the exchange of business ideas, showcase products and services, and encourage investment opportunities, playing a crucial role in strengthening bilateral trade and investment relations between China and Asean," he told Xinhua.
"It will promote high-quality regional development through a variety of economic and trade activities, laying a solid foundation for building a more connected, resilient and dynamic region," he added. - Xinhua

A new phase was launched with the Mekong–Japan Cooperation Strategy 2024, aligning with ASEAN's regional goals and Japan's Free and Open Indo-Pacific vision. KUALA LUMPUR: Embracing frontier technologies is crucial for the ASEAN Plus Three (APT) bloc to maintain agility and relevance, said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan. He noted that digital transformation, supported by China, Japan, and South Korea, could contribute US$2 trillion to regional GDP. Speaking at the 26th ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers' Meeting, Mohamad emphasised Malaysia's goal as ASEAN Chair to bridge development gaps and promote sustainable growth. 'Such initiatives support equitable development, foster peace through cooperation, and improve living standards,' he said. The APT bloc, with a combined population of 2.28 billion and a GDP of US$29.33 trillion, holds significant global influence. Mohamad stressed the partnership's responsibility in ensuring regional stability and inclusive growth. 'Amid complex global challenges, platforms advocating dialogue and cooperation remain vital,' he added. Anwar Invites Trump to Asean, East Asia Summits in KL in October
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended an official invitation to United States (US) President Donald Trump to attend the Asean–US Summit and the East Asia Summit, both scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur this October. In a Facebook post following his meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Anwar said the high-level engagement reflected a shared commitment to elevate Malaysia–US relations to the level of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He said the meeting opened avenues for enhanced cooperation in several key sectors, including digital investment, artificial intelligence, defence and education. 'We also exchanged views on pressing regional issues, including the situations in Palestine, Ukraine and Myanmar,' he said. Anwar also raised Malaysia's concerns over Washington's planned 25% import tariff on Malaysian goods, announced by Trump earlier this week. 'Malaysia views such unilateral actions as disruptive to the flow of free trade and potentially harmful to regional economic growth, especially for trading nations like Malaysia,' he said. 'Negotiations must remain open to ensure trade outcomes that are fair, balanced, and do not disadvantage developing countries.' Despite trade tensions, Anwar expressed confidence that close cooperation with the US would not only strengthen bilateral ties, but also serve as a catalyst for stability, prosperity and peace across the Indo-Pacific region. Rubio's visit marks his first to Asia as Secretary of State. The 25% tariff on Malaysian imports is scheduled to take effect on Aug 1, following a 90-day negotiation window that began in April.
