Dehradun: A total of 451 officer cadets who were commissioned into the armies of their respective countries participated in the spring term passing out parade of the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun on Saturday.
Among them were 419 officer cadets commissioned into the Indian Army and 32 from friendly foreign nations.
Sri Lanka Army Commander Lieutenant General BKGM Lasantha Rodrigo, an alumnus of IMA, reviewed the parade. Lt Gen Rodrigo, who passed out in 1990, is the first foreign military chief to return to his alma mater as chief guest and reviewing officer.
The cadets on parade belonged to the 156 Regular Course, 45th Technical Entry Scheme (TES), 139th Technical Graduate Course (TGC), Special Commissioned Officers (SCO-54), and contingents from the nine foreign countries.
The cadets marched to tunes like 'Sare Jahan Se Achha' and 'Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja' in precise formations, in a reflection of the rigorous training and discipline instilled at the academy.
Addressing the cadets, Lt Gen Rodrigo said, "This place doesn't just train officers; it forges bonds that last a lifetime". He also recounted memories from his own training days fondly, including sharing an anecdote about "my first haircut at the IMA barber shop."

The Sri Lankan Army chief urged cadets to wear their uniforms "not just with pride, but with purpose" as it is "a symbol of their nation's trust and a reminder that they represent something greater than themselves."
"Respect isn't granted with a commission; it's earned daily through conduct, character, and choices…True leadership is tested not in peace, but in the chaos of conflict, as I experienced during Sri Lanka's long and difficult internal strife," he said.
He called on the young officers to uphold the values of discipline, integrity, loyalty, and honour, describing them as the sacred pillars of military life.
"The country's safety, welfare and honour come first, then the honour, safety and welfare of the men you command. Your own safety and comfort comes last," Rodrigo added, calling it a timeless lesson he had learnt at the academy. He urged the officer cadets to "lead from the front and be a source of strength in fear, a beacon in doubt, and hope in despair."
"Never forget the men you lead. They will follow you into fire, but only when they know you'll be at the front," he said.
He concluded his address with a quote of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw:"Be truthful, be honest, be fearless and the rest will follow."
The Sword of Honour for overall performance, as well as the silver medal, was awarded to Academy Cadet Adjutant Anni Nehra. The gold medal went to Academy Under Officer Ronit Ranjan, while Battalion Under Officer Anurag Verma received the bronze. Among international trainees, Nepal's Nishan Balami earned top honours. The Chief of Army Staff Banner for best overall company was awarded to Keren Company.

Motivation lies within, not outside, says Jaya Kishori

Nagpur: True motivation does not come from outside, but from within — and it's deeply rooted in spirituality, said renowned motivational speaker and spiritual guide Jaya Kishori while captivating a packed audience in Nagpur on Monday evening. She delivered the GH Raisoni memorial talk titled, 'You Are Enough: Confidence, Character & the Quiet Revolution Within', organised by Raisoni Foundation under the banner of the Orange City Literature Festival. Held at Suresh Bhat Auditorium, the event drew more than 1,000 attendees who hung on to every word as Kishori spoke with her trademark warmth and humility about self worth, inner strength, and the importance of embracing one's uniqueness. "Spirituality and religiousness are not separate but intertwined," she explained, urging the audience not to fear god, but to see the divine as a loving force who thinks highly of each individual. She cautioned people against comparing themselves with others, emphasising that everyone's journey is unique. Addressing modern challenges, she described overthinking as a disease and underscored the need for balance not only in spiritual matters but also in financial life. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Her insights also touched on family relationships, where she stressed the importance of understanding and compassion between parents and children. The event was graced by dignitaries including former MP Ajay Sancheti, Shobha Raisoni, Shreyas Raisoni, Palakh Raisoni, and Varsha Manohar. Shreyas Raisoni, director of the Raisoni Group, described the talk as a tribute to the late GH Raisoni, whose life, he said, was guided by simplicity, humility, and strength of character.

Archbishop Udumala Bala receives pallium from Pope Leo XIV

Visakhapatnam/Vatican City: In a solemn liturgical ceremony held at St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV conferred the pallium on archbishop Udumala Bala of Visakhapatnam , symbolizing his authority and unity with the Holy See as the Metropolitan Archbishop. The Holy Eucharist marking the conferral took place on Sunday, June 29, at 9:30 am Rome time, coinciding with the feast of saint Peter and saint Paul — a traditional occasion for bestowing the pallium on newly appointed metropolitan archbishops. Archbishop Bala, in a message stated: "The Holy Eucharist of the conferral of the pallium on me by Pope Leo XIV took place at St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican. I offered prayers as I received this symbol of communion with the holy father and my pastoral mission as metropolitan archbishop of Visakhapatnam." The pallium — a narrow band of white wool with six embroidered crosses — is worn over the shoulders and signifies both the archbishop's role as a shepherd within his province and his connection with the papacy. It is traditionally conferred only by the pope. Archbishop Bala, who leads the ecclesiastical province of Visakhapatnam, had assumed his role earlier this year. The province includes several suffragan dioceses across Andhra Pradesh. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Bring home all new SP160 & get an instant cashback up to ₹5000# Honda Learn More Undo The ceremony was attended by other metropolitan archbishops from around the world, with Pope Leo XIV presiding over the liturgy. The conferral of the pallium serves as both a symbol of pastoral responsibility and a visible expression of the archbishop's fidelity to the mission of the universal church.

Watch: Bihar gets Rs 100 crore road, but trees left in the middle; Drivers dodge danger, call it disaster waiting to happen

A road built at a cost of Rs 100 crore in Bihar's Jehanabad district, around 50 km from Patna, is drawing attention, not for its quality, but for the trees standing right in the middle of it. The 7.48-km stretch on the Patna–Gaya main road was meant to ease traffic and improve connectivity. However, the project took an unusual turn when authorities failed to remove several trees, which now stand awkwardly and dangerously in the centre of the newly widened road. — venkat_fin9 (@venkat_fin9) by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Bank Owned Properties For Sale In Sukamanah (Prices May Surprise You) Foreclosed Homes | Search ads Search Now During the road-widening process, the district administration approached the forest department for permission to cut down the trees. But the request was denied. The forest department asked for compensation for 14 hectares of forest land, which the administration was unable to provide. Live Events — souravreporter2 (@souravreporter2) Instead of resolving the issue, the road was constructed around the trees, leaving them in the middle of the traffic lane. The trees are not aligned in a straight row. They are scattered unevenly, forcing drivers to swerve suddenly to avoid collisions. Local residents say that the area has already witnessed multiple accidents due to this unsafe road design. Locals describe it as a serious safety hazard, saying, anyone driving at night or at high speed can easily crash into these trees. Despite growing concerns, the administration has not taken any concrete steps to fix the problem. Many locals feel that public money has been wasted, and that the government has put lives at risk.
