Trump wades into controversial ad campaigns: ‘Being WOKE is for losers'
President Trump on Monday weighed in on the recent controversial ad campaign with actor Sydney Sweeney for American Eagle, arguing that the success of it is a sign that being 'woke is for losers.' 'Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the 'HOTTEST' ad out there. It's for American Eagle, and the jeans are 'flying off the shelves.' Go get 'em Sydney!' Trump said on Truth Social. The ad featuring Sweeney has caused backlash online, with critics claiming there are racist undertones surrounding the message that Sweeney 'has great jeans,' a riff on the idea of 'good genes.' American Eagle has defended the ad, saying it's only about 'jeans,' Bloomberg reported, and the company's shares rose when it was first released in July. The president on Sunday said, 'If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic,' after BuzzFeed reported over the weekend that Sweeney has been registered to the Republican Party of Florida since June 2024. After his first mention on Sweeney, American Eagle stock climbed 14 percent. Trump, in his Truth Social post on Monday, added that Jaguar had a 'stupid' and 'seriously WOKE' ad from a year ago, pointing out the company's leader resigned after it. The British car company's CEO Adrian Mardell is set to resign, Reuters reported, and Jaguar ran an advertisement in 2024 that sparked criticism for being 'woke,' Fox Business Network reported. 'Who wants to buy a Jaguar after looking at that disgraceful ad. Shouldn't they have learned a lesson from Bud Lite, which went Woke and essentially destroyed, in a short campaign, the Company. The market cap destruction has been unprecedented, with BILLIONS OF DOLLARS SO FOOLISHLY LOST.' Trump said. And, he compared megastar Taylor Swift, who endorsed former Vice President Harris in last year's election, to Sweeney and said she is 'no longer hot.' 'Or just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift. Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can't stand her (HATE!),' Trump said. 'She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT. The tide has seriously turned — Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be.' The president has taken previous swipes at Swift, saying in May, 'Has anyone noticed that, since I said 'I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,' she's no longer 'HOT?'' After the Sweeney advertisement, White House communications director Steven Cheung pointed to the backlash as an example of 'cancel culture run amok.' Vice President Vance also mocked critics in a recent interview, blaming Democrats for those who argue the commercial promotes eugenics.

Ferrari Team Boss Responds to Lewis Hamilton Frustration After Hungarian GP
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Scuderia Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur has responded to the comments made by Lewis Hamilton after the Hungarian Grand Prix. Hamilton started from P12 and finished the race in the same position. Newsweek Sports reported the seven-time world champion's statement after he was knocked out of Q2 in qualifying on Saturday. He appeared low while stating that Ferrari should look for another driver because he was "useless." The Grand Prix saw Hamilton struggle to recover positions in his SF-25 F1 car, failing to finish within the points, while his teammate Charles Leclerc finished in P4. After the race, when Hamilton was asked about his comments from the previous day, he said: "Not particularly, when you have a feeling, you have a feeling. There's a lot going on in the background that's not great, so..." More Marco BERTORELLO / AFP/Getty Images "I still love it. I still love racing." Given Hamilton's statement, Vasseur was asked if he was planning on motivating the Briton. He said: "I don't need to motivate him. Honestly, he's frustrated, but not demotivated. You know, it's a completely different story. I can perfectly understand the situation. Sometimes you are making comments on what the driver is saying in the car, but if you put the microphone on some other sportsmen in football and so, I'm not sure that it would be much better. "They are in the performance, and sometimes they are making comments, even when they jump out of the car. I can understand the frustration, but we are all frustrated. And sometimes if you ask me, I can't say this, I will go to the stewards [for swearing]! "But sometimes just after the race or just after the quali [qualifying], you are very disappointed and the first reaction is harsh. But we all know that we are pushing in the same direction." Vasseur understood the reason for Hamilton's frustration and admitted that he is a demanding driver, but emphasized that it is what pushes him to excel. He said: "Yeah, he's demanding. But I think it's also why he's a seven-time world champion, he's demanding with the team, with the car, with the engineers, with the mechanics, with myself also. But first of all, he's very demanding with himself. "It's always been a good motivation for him. The main reason of performance. For sure, when you are a seven-time world champion and your teammate is in pole position, and you are out in Q2, it's tough, it's a tough situation. "But we can also have a deep look, he was in front of Charles in Q1, on the first set, he was one-tenth off in Q2. We are not far away to have the two cars out in Q2. "And the outcome of this is Charles at the end is able to do the pole position, but it's not ... Honestly, the gap was not 1.2 seconds yesterday. But I can understand the frustration from Lewis. This is normal."

Lewis Hamilton Hints at Off-Track Issues After Painful Hungarian GP
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton looked disheartened after failing to score points at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Hamilton failed to score points at one of his best tracks historically. He was stuck in waves of traffic due to his poor qualifying, which resulted in him qualifying 12th. His struggles are a drop in a bucket of lackluster results this season for the seven-time champion. Hamilton made the massive move to the most storied team on the Formula 1 grid this season, and following months of anticipation and hype, he hasn't lived up to the expectations. Lewis Hamilton of Great Britain and Scuderia Ferrari is interviewed during practice ahead of the F1 Grand Prix of Hungary at Hungaroring on August 01, 2025 in Budapest, Hungary. Photo byOn Saturday, after qualifying, Hamilton appeared devastated and even claimed that the team should change their driver. "It's just me every time. I am useless. Absolutely useless. The team has no problem. You can see the car is on pole [with Leclerc]. They probably need to change driver," Hamilton said. Then following the race, the British driver sounded dispondent and revealed additional information regarding his comments. "Not particularly, when you have a feeling, you have a feeling. There's a lot going on in the background that's not great, so...," Hamilton told Sky Sports. "I still love it. I still love racing." In Hungary, Hamilton started on the hard tire, lasting 40 laps on the compound before swapping onto the medium tire. He started in the same place he finished, marking what has been a frustrating weekend for the driver. Hamilton had an amazing drive during the Belgian Grand Prix, earning driver of the day after making up serious ground. He looked poised to keep the momentum going in Hungary. This makes his poor race weekend all the more painful for the champion and likely explains his absolute lack of confidence. Former Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali still thinks Hamilton can turn it around in the second half of the season. "First of all, Lewis is a jewel, he is an incredible athlete, so no matter if it is a difficult moment, he will react, and I'm pretty sure he will show the reason why he is here," Domenicali told Sky Sports F1. "He wants to achieve his eighth title, and he will triumph again. So, stay with Lewis and he will do a great race, and be very, very strong after the summer [break]."
