Trump lashes out at Biden after illegal immigrant accused of shooting CBP officer in NYC

President Donald Trump lashed out at former President Joe Biden after an off-duty Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer was allegedly shot in the face by an illegal immigrant with a lengthy criminal rap sheet in New York City. "Last night, in New York City, an incredible CBP Officer was shot in the face by an Illegal Alien Monster freed into the Country under Joe Biden," Trump wrote in a Truth Social post on Sunday. "He was apprehended at the Border in April 2023 but, instead of being deported, was RELEASED." The suspect was identified by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as 21-year-old Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, a Dominican national. DHS confirmed that Nunez was arrested by Border Patrol near San Luis, Arizona, in April 2023, but was released into the U.S. by the Biden administration. The agency also told Fox News that Nunez has an active warrant for kidnapping in the state of Massachusetts, in addition to prior felony arrests. During a press conference on Sunday, NYC Mayor Eric Adams said Nunez had prior arrests for assault and violating an order of protection. Adams said Nunez also had an active bench warrant from the Bronx, was wanted for a robbery from last December and a stabbing from January. "The Democrats have flooded our Nation with Criminal Invaders, and now, they must all be thrown out or, in some cases, immediately prosecuted in that we cannot take a chance that they are able to come back," Trump added. "That's how evil and dangerous they are!" Authorities said Nunez rode up on a motorized scooter with another suspect and attempted to rob the CBP officer as he sat in Riverside Park on Saturday night. The officer, who has not yet been identified, pulled out a gun to defend himself. Police said the officer and Nunez were both shot multiple times. Nunez walked into an area hospital after the shooting, police said. The officer is expected to recover from his injuries. Trump added that the off-duty officer "bravely fought off his attacker, despite his wounds, demonstrating enormous Skill and Courage." Adams said Nunez was taken into custody. "He has inflicted violence in our city and once he is charged for last night's crimes, we will be able to add attempted murder to his rap sheet," Adams said. DHS has lodged a detainer against Nunez.

Pittsburgh man facing attempted homicide charge after allegedly beating 10-month-old boy

A man is accused of slamming a 10-month-old baby's head into a bedpost, injuring the child so badly that doctors had to remove part of his skull in an attempt to save his life. Police say the suspect is the boyfriend of the baby's mother. The man, Dominic Pinnick, is expected to be formally charged Sunday night, facing several charges, including criminal attempted homicide and three counts of aggravated assault. At last check, the baby was in critical condition, but Pinnick is accused of beating his girlfriend's 10-month-old so badly that, according to court documents, the baby is not expected to survive. A doctor told investigators that the baby's injuries were not consistent with a fall, but were consistent with abusive head trauma and violence. The baby has one large skull fracture and numerous retinal hemorrhages, which are consistent with violent shaking. The baby also appears to have multiple impact strikes to his chest and a possible arm fracture. On Friday, just after 4 p.m., Pittsburgh police responded to a house on Kedron Street in the city's Homewood neighborhood for a report of an "infant falling from a bed." The baby was rushed to UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh "unresponsive, not breathing on his own and experiencing multiple seizures," officials say. A doctor also told investigators the baby had multiple knots and bruising. His head injuries caused a brain bleed and swelling. The baby went into surgery to remove part of his skull because of brain swelling. In a police interview, Pinnick told investigators he was asked by the baby's parent to watch the child. Pinnick said he heard crying and went upstairs to console the child. He said when he went into the bedroom, the baby was on the floor on the side of the bed and wouldn't stop crying. He got frustrated and walked around the bedroom, and hit the child's head approximately three or four times on the wooden canopy bed posts in the bedroom. Pinnick said he "aggressively placed the child on the bed, aggressively rocked the baby, and that he grabbed the child and aggressively rubbed the back of the baby's head." Pinnick said when he put the baby on the bed, he also "struck his head on the headboard." When he saw the baby's limp body, he called 911 for help. KDKA-TV reached out to Pittsburgh police for an update on the baby's condition, but has not heard back.

Off-Duty Customs Officer Shot in Robbery Attempt in Park, N.Y.P.D. Says

An off-duty customs officer was shot in the face and arm during a robbery attempt at a park in Manhattan late Saturday night, police officials said. The officer, 42, was sitting with a friend on rocks at the water's edge along the Hudson River in Upper Manhattan just before midnight when two men rode up on a scooter, Jessica Tisch, the police commissioner, said at a news conference Sunday afternoon. When one of the men approached the officer and revealed a firearm, the officer realized he was being robbed and drew his service weapon, Commissioner Tisch said. The robber fired his weapon first, and the two men exchanged gunfire, she said. The robber was also shot and limped back to the scooter, and he fled the scene with his companion, Commissioner Tisch said, adding that the attack was captured by security cameras. The commissioner said there was no indication that the officer, whom the police have not named, had been targeted for his employment. He is expected to recover from his injuries. The police have detained Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, 21, as a person of interest in relation to the shooting, Commissioner Tisch said. Mr. Mora walked into a hospital in the Bronx shortly after the attempted robbery with gunshot wounds to the groin and the leg, she said, which were consistent with the injuries sustained by the man who shot the officer as captured on video. Mr. Mora underwent surgery and is in custody at Lincoln Hospital, and he is expected to be arrested on Sunday, Commissioner Tisch said. The police are looking for his accomplice in the shooting, who has not been identified. Officials said that Mr. Mora entered the United States illegally in 2023 through Arizona. He was arrested twice previously on domestic violence charges in New York, and officials had issued an arrest warrant after he failed to show up to a court date in one of those cases, Commissioner Tisch said on Sunday. Mr. Mora is also wanted in connection with a robbery in December and a stabbing in January, both of which occurred in the Bronx, as well as a pawnshop robbery in Massachusetts in February in which guns were stolen, the commissioner said.
