Negeri Sembilan empowers women in leadership roles across sectors
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun emphasised that women should champion public concerns on critical issues like education, healthcare, housing, and the environment.
'Women bring empathy, transparency, and diligence to governance.
Their role as educators and shapers of future generations must be strengthened, as they are the primary educators within families and communities,' he said during the launch of Wanita MADANI Inspirasi (WADANI) Negeri Sembilan.
Aminuddin highlighted that WADANI should recognise women as social drivers and community activists.
'They create change by engaging with communities, raising awareness, and fostering attitude shifts, not just through assistance,' he added.
He expressed hope that WADANI would equip women with communication and empathy skills, enabling them to effectively address societal issues.
'We want women to lead social change, empower families, drive community economies, and become moral pillars in challenging times,' he said. - Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 — The Education (Amendment) Bill 2025, which seeks to make secondary education compulsory, was tabled for first reading in the Dewan Rakyat today. Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh, when tabling the Bill, said the second reading is expected to take place during the current parliamentary sitting. The Bill seeks to amend Section 2 of the Education Act 1996 (Act 550) to substitute the definition of 'compulsory education' to include secondary education. It also proposes a new Section 32A, which provides that every parent whose child is a Malaysian citizen and resides in Malaysia must ensure the child is enrolled in a secondary education institution and remains in school throughout the secondary education period. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to six months, or both, upon conviction. The Bill also states that the proposed amendments will involve additional government expenditure, the amount of which has yet to be determined. — Bernama

LUMUT, July 28 (Bernama) -- The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, today graced the LEMBING SAKTI 2025 Exercise at the Tanjung Hantu shooting range, here. Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, was also in attendance. Also present were Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, Army Chief General Tan Sri Datuk Seri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan, and United States Ambassador to Malaysia, Edgard D. Kagan. Their Royal Highnesses were briefed on safety protocols, followed by a photo session and live rocket firing demonstration. The Malaysian Army, in a statement, said that the royal couple's presence reflected the unwavering support of the royal institution towards the nation's defence readiness. "LEMBING SAKTI 2025 Exercise demonstrates the tactical capabilities and steadfast dedication of the Malaysian Armed Forces in strengthening combat readiness and national defence capacity. 'The initiative also aligns with efforts to solidify a regional defence cooperation network through the involvement of friendly nations, in ensuring strategic stability and security in the region,' read the statement. It stated that the exercise aims to test the combat readiness and effectiveness of the rocket artillery system, as well as enhance inter-agency cooperation capabilities in joint land, sea, and air operations, among other objectives. The exercise provides exposure to the latest tactics and procedures for using the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), as well as the implementation of the Complete Round Proof by the 40th Ordnance Corps Ammunition Engineering Command in collaboration with the Science and Technology Research Institute for Defence (STRIDE).

Thailand-Cambodia Peace Talks Begin In Putrajaya Amid Rising Border Tensions
WORLD PUTRAJAYA, July 28 (Bernama) -- The special meeting between Thailand and Cambodia, aimed at securing an immediate ceasefire and halting hostilities along the disputed border, began in Putrajaya on Monday. The special meeting, brokered by Malaysia and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in his capacity as the current ASEAN Chair, is being held to de-escalate rising tensions and restore stability along the conflict-hit border areas. Thailand's acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai arrived at Seri Perdana, the venue of the meeting, which is the official residence of the Malaysian prime minister, at about 2.51 pm followed shortly after by Cambodian leader Hun Manet. They were welcomed by Anwar. Also attending the meeting were US Ambassador to Malaysia Edgard Kagan and Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing, who are participating as co-facilitators. Last Friday, Anwar had called Phumtham and Manet separately, appealing for both leaders to seek an immediate ceasefire and return to dialogue to resolve their dispute. Anwar had said that Malaysia stands ready to assist and facilitate the process in the spirit of ASEAN unity and shared responsibility. The two Southeast Asian neighbours have a long history of diplomatic rows over an 817-kilometre undemarcated stretch of their shared border. Tensions between Thailand and Cambodia have been simmering since May 28 following a skirmish between their troops near the disputed Preah Vihear border area, which claimed the life of a Cambodian soldier.
