Franco Mastantuono labels current Real Madrid as an ‘idol'
Real Madrid are on course to unveil their fourth signing of the summer transfer window in Franco Mastantuono. Los Blancos have focused on defence as part of Xabi Alonso's opening weeks in charge, either side of the FIFA Club World Cup, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Deean Huijsen and Alvaro Carreras all arriving. However, Alonso was also quick off the mark to secure the highly rated Mastantuono from River Plate, but the deal has been delayed. An agreement was reached over a six-year contract on June 13, but River Plate requested he remain with them for the Club World Cup, and current transfer rule prevented him from signing for Real Madrid until his 18th birthday. The Argentina international comes of age on August 14 where he can officially train as a Real Madrid player and begin life in under Alonso. However, with the club keen to ensure his quick adaptation to life in the Spanish capital, Mastantuono has now landed in Spain for a two-week settling in period. Mastantuono ready for Real Madrid challenge Speaking ahead of his flight from Buenos Aires, Mastantuono spoke of his excitement, and the chance to replicate Los Blancos icon Alfredo Di Stefano. (Photo by) 'I'm very happy. I've been waiting for this day for a long time. I'm very happy to be traveling back in Madrid,' as per Marca. 'Di Stefano was great player, a football legend. I said I want to follow in his footsteps, by playing for River Plate and then going to Real Madrid. For me, it's great to be able to follow that path and hopefully I can do the same as him.' Mastantuono wore the No.30 shirt at River Plate, and some predictions have placed him as No.16 in Madrid – if Endrick Felipe leaves on loan – and he played down claims of wanting the No.10 over Kylian Mbappe. 'I would like to [wear No.10], but if he [Mbappe] takes it, it's his right, he's an idol,'

The 28-year-old defender joined Les Gones from Southampton two years ago. He featured 53 times for Lyon. The Ligue 1 side is trimming down its squad as well as its wage bill after being hit with financial constraints by the DNCG. According to Lyon, Real Sociedad will pay the Ligue 1 side a €500k loan fee. Caleta-Car's loan move to the Basque side includes a €4m option to buy. The Croatian international remains tied with Lyon over a contract set to expire in 2027. Lyon have planned for Caleta-Car's exit by signing Casa Pia centre-back Ruben Kluivert. GFFN | Bastien Cheval

Liverpool's momentous Adidas kit deal is worth even MORE than we first thought
Liverpool have FINALLY unveiled their new Adidas kit deal. Arne Slot's side have been playing through the current preseason campaign in their 2024/25 Nike kits. The Reds have taken part in matches against Preston, Stoke, AC Milan and Yokohama F. Marinos in last season's kits but will be wearing Adidas when they play Athletic Club on Monday. Adidas finally take over from Nike The Adidas deal did not kick in until August 1 - with the start of Nike's five-year contract delayed back in 2020. Owing to the three-month suspension of football, Nike's deal was put back until after the season finished in July 2020. 🔴 The players have also been pictured wearing Nike training wear and apparel during the Asian tour - while the likes of Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong have been using temporary numbers. Things now look a little more settled - with Wirtz being given the legendary Liverpool No7 shirt and featuring prominently in the Adidas announcements. Adidas paying MORE than £60m reported The Reds were paid roughly £30m per year - minimum - throughout the lifecycle of their Nike deal. That figure was lifted by a reported 20 percent royalty payment on replica kits - which pushed the overall sums on offer to around £60m. However, Adidas will be providing the club with significantly MORE money - with the deal set to run for an unprecedented 10-year duration. According to various reports, the exact terms of the deal will remain confidential. There are bonuses on offer - depending on team performances and unit shifted - but Liverpool will be earning a LOT more than the £60m per annum from Adidas that has previously been reported. © LFC
