National conference on new educational policy
RSS chief Mohan Bhagawat, Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Sri M and Baba Ramdev are among the noted personalities who will attend along with nearly 200 vice-chancellors from across the country.
The conference, hosted by Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas, will be held at Adi Shankara Nilayam, Piravom, from July 24-26. It aims to evaluate and strategise the continuation of programmes like Jnanotsav and Jnanamahakumbh, which were instrumental in uniting various institutions to restore Indian values in education over the past five years, said conference coordinator A Vinod. He said that around 80 prominent national-level education activists will attend.

Lt. Gen Parnaik said that Mookerjee was far more than a political figure. He was a visionary, an esteemed educationist, and a courageous nation-builder driven by a profound belief in 'One India, Great India'. He founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951, laying the ideological groundwork for national unity and integrity at a time when the country was still healing from partition. The Governor recounted Mookerjee's unwavering opposition to Article 370 and his powerful call for "One Country, One Head, One Flag, One Constitution" in 1953, a stance that marked a pivotal moment in Indian political history. He noted that this very dream of equality, national integration, and constitutional unity was realised under the decisive leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, with the abrogation of Article 370 and the full integration of Jammu and Kashmir into the Indian Union. Recalling the pivotal role of Mookerjee in the Constituent Assembly, the Governor said that he persistently advocated for minority rights and the preservation of regional languages to ensure a Constitution acceptable and applicable to all communities. In Imphal, Manipur Governor Bhalla, on the occasion, described Mookerjee as a towering figure in the history of modern India, a distinguished patriot, freedom fighter, visionary leader, and an intellectual of remarkable stature. As one of the key architects of independent India, Mookerjee played a significant role in shaping the country's political and educational landscape, the Governor said. He was also a strong advocate for national integration and worked tirelessly to uphold the unity and integrity of the nation. The Governor also recalled Mookerjee's pivotal role in the integration of Jammu and Kashmir. His firm stance was encapsulated in his well-known statement: 'Ek deshmein do Vidhan, do Nishan, do Pradhan nahichalenge' — reflecting his unwavering commitment to the principle of one nation, one constitution. GUWAHATI Assam Congress president and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi on Saturday (July 5, 2025) alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in Assam was systematically eroding the autonomy of the tribal councils functioning under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. He held Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma primarily responsible for 'undermining the spirit' of these autonomous councils, rather than upholding their constitutional mandate. 'Power was decentralised to the BTC, KAAC, and NCHAC during the 15-year tenure of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, as the Sixth Schedule was intended to ensure administrative and financial autonomy for these regions,' Mr. Gogoi told journalists in Diphu, the headquarters of Karbi Anglong district. 'The people of these regions should have the authority to make decisions regarding their development. Authority should not be confined to Delhi or Dispur (the State capital); it must extend to the councils,' he said. Guntur Lok Adalat resolves 1,076 civil cases in a day, sets national benchmark
In a historic feat for the Indian judiciary, the Guntur District Lok Adalat has set a national record by resolving 1,076 civil cases in a single day during the National Lok Adalat held across Andhra Pradesh on Saturday. In addition to civil disputes, the Lok Adalat successfully disposed of 11,636 criminal cases, primarily involving compoundable offences under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including pending non-bailable warrant (NBW) cases dating back to 2015 and 2016. B. Sai Kalyan Chakravarthi, Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority and Principal District and Sessions Judge, attributed the district's exemplary performance to the robust mediation system adopted by the Lok Adalat. He noted that compensation totalling ₹51 crore was awarded to victims, largely from motor accident claims and civil settlements. A high-profile case involved the family of Dr. K. Sridhar, who died in a 2024 road accident near Piduguralla. Their ₹5 crore claim against Tata General Insurance was amicably settled at ₹1.4 crore. Two other cases fetched compensation of ₹1.1 crore and ₹70 lakh, respectively. Guntur now stands as a national model in legal dispute resolution, he said.
