NFL offensive playcaller rankings: 2025 Arizona Cardinals opponents
Pro Football Network ranked all 32 NFL offensive playcallers. See where the Cardinals' opponents fall.
More rankings? Yes, of course. You know you want them and that you like to read them. These come from Pro Football Network, ranking all 32 teams' primary offensive playcaller.
Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing, the playcaller for the Cardinals, is in the middle of the league, coming in 15th in the league.
The Cardinals revamped their defense this offseason. How challenging will their job be against opposing playcallers?
Let's have a look at where their opponents rank in 2025.
NFL offensive playcaller rankings: Arizona Cardinals' opponents
Analysis
The Cardinals will have their work cut out for them in the division, as they have four games against McVay and Shanahan, the two top playcallers on this list.
They do have six games against bottom-10 playcallers. Nine of their games are against playcallers ranked below Petzing.
Factoring all their rankings, the average ranking the Cardinals face is 15.8, meaning, between the good and the less proven, their opposing playcallers are the very definition of league average.
With a (hopefully) improved defense, they will be up to the task.

Jets Rookie Mason Taylor Details 'Full Tight End' Plan Amid Pro Bowl Buzz
Jets Rookie Mason Taylor Details 'Full Tight End' Plan Amid Pro Bowl Buzz originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Jets offense has some pieces in place at the skill positions. Justin Fields, Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall have, at different levels, established what they might be able to accomplish in 2025. Advertisement Here's an argument that says they can do even more than some expect if there is a fourth member of the offense who jumps up in a major way. Enter tight end Mason Taylor, who was drafted in the second round and is expected to develop into one of Fields' trusted targets. What does the LSU product think needs to be done to get him there? "I think just going back to the fundamentals — that's in the run game, the footwork, the hand placement, leverage -- all the little things, that kind of separates yourself in the NFL," Taylor said. "So, me critiquing, then trying to perfect that and be a full tight end is the biggest thing for me right now." Advertisement And where might being a "full tight end'' take him? Fox Sports, in listing rookies who could become franchise stars for their respective 32 teams, pegs Taylor as a guy who might have a future as a Pro Bowler. "Perhaps some of the reason why the Jets have struggled developing a young quarterback in recent years is their lack of a "security blanket" at tight end," the site writes. "Taylor has some of the surest hands of any pass-catcher in this class, providing an immediate boost to a franchise that hasn't produced a Pro Bowler at tight end since Mickey Shuler … in 1988." We don't want to get ahead of ourselves here. But the truth is - no disrespect to Mickey - his numbers are quite achievable. Advertisement Shuler played 12 years with the Jets and totaled 5,100 yards and 37 touchdowns with two Pro Bowl selections in 1986 and 1988. Can Taylor emulate that? Is there a Pro Bowl in Taylor's career? It could make all the difference to the Jets offense for that to happen ... and soon. Aaron Glenn's 'Microwave' Jets Predicted To Be NFL Eyesore for New York Fans
Aaron Glenn's 'Microwave' Jets Predicted To Be NFL Eyesore for New York Fans originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Aaron Glenn era for the New York Jets has gotten off to a solid start, with the franchise adding some nice pieces on both sides of the ball to get things rolling. Advertisement But more so than player acquisition, it has been the standard and culture that Glenn has put in place that will serve the franchise well. Granted, not many are expecting big things from Justin Fields and the offense, while the defense has something to prove after a poor 2024 season. Still, things might not be pretty viewing. USA Today's Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz ranked all 32 teams based on how entertaining they'll be in 2025, and to no one's surprise, New York comes in at No. 29. "Owner Woody Johnson attempted to microwave a contender by adding Aaron Rodgers and instead set his franchise on fire," Middlehurst-Schwartz writes. "Now Aaron Glenn has been tasked with cleaning up the mess. But even with a more viable blueprint, this year's iteration of Gang Green will likely serve a reminder that the right way of building isn't always the fun way – at least at first." New York Jets head coach Aaron R. / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images The offense is expected to lean on the run game under Tanner Engstrand, thanks to a trio of good backs in Breece Hall, Braelon Allen, and Isaiah Davis, and a solid offensive line. Advertisement Plus, Fields only has one key weapon in the passing game in Garrett Wilson, who, while capable of highlight plays, won't have anyone to follow him. We saw last season how dire the situation can get, and yes, there have been positive changes both on and off the field, but can we expect to see substantial improvement so soon? Possibly as the Washington Commanders are evidence of that, but for most, the Jets are going to be a tough watch in Glenn's first year in charge. Will Jets Be Stuck In QB Purgatory With Justin Fields?
Will Jets Be Stuck In QB Purgatory With Justin Fields? originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Jets' signing of Justin Fields was met with a solid reaction, with the move seen as a win-win for the franchise. Advertisement If Fields plays well, great; if he doesn't, the Jets can escape his contract after 2025 relatively unscathed. But it might not be as straightforward as that. If Fields is good, how good can the Jets expect to be? Alternatively, if the Jets are bad, will they be bad enough to get a high draft pick? It is here where Fox Sports' Henry McKenna thinks the Jets might be stuck. And here is where fans have their worries. Fields is a unique quarterback," McKenna writes. "Sometimes, unusual talents fail to fit with a certain scheme or coaching staff. And so the Fields experiment might not be a huge success story. So you're probably thinking: Well, the Jets will just draft another QB. They could. Advertisement "But given that Fields needs to reclaim his career and the Jets are tired of losing, they will probably finish in the middle of the league, even if Fields isn't the guy they want him to be. And that'll probably cloud the picture around getting a top QB in the 2026 draft. So then what? They'll have to throw around major assets to move up in the draft or sign someone else in free agency… again." New York Jets' signing of Justin Fields was met with a solid reactionBy Tony Fisher That is quite the predicament. In truth, if Fields turns out to be a solid starter and the Jets win, let's say seven games, and go 7-10, that would be a solid foundation for Aaron Glenn to build from. But will that instill enough confidence that Fields is "the" guy? We aren't sure. Advertisement Also, if things go south, will they go south badly enough to warrant a top pick, say in the top three? That would likely be a three-win season. Of that, we aren't sure either. There is a lot to figure out in 2025, and as it turns out, the Fields decision, one that many predicted would nearly answer itself, might not be so easy to answer after all.
