YSRCP worker held in Palnadu over provocative slogans
A senior official from Nakarikallu police station in Sattenapalli block said the police had taken into custody YSRCP worker Ravi Teja, who was purportedly seen in the videos and pictures carrying placards that had instigated violence during the visit of party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to Rentapala village on Wednesday to call on the family members of a party leader who died by suicide in June 2024.
'We shall produce them in the court for judicial remand,' he said.
The show of strength during Jagan's visit and provocative slogans raised by the YSRCP workers during his Palnadu tour evoked strong reactions from the TDP leaders.
TDP president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu strongly condemned the instigation of violence by the YSRCP leaders during Jagan's visit to Palnadu. 'In politics, a new batch is trying to introduce violent culture in politics. The YSRCP leaders are creating a situation where rowdies are being seen as heroes, and peace and order is seen as incompetent,' he said, speaking to reporters in Visakhapatnam.
He expressed surprise over Jagan unveiling the statue of the party worker. 'How can anybody unveil statues of persons belonging to drug peddlers, betting mafia, rowdies and those who commit murders and rapes?' he asked.
Senior TDP leader and state finance minister Payyavula Keshav said, 'Whom exactly are you planning to kill? If a YSRCP worker carries such placards, Jagan, as a former chief minister, should have condemned it. Instead, he seems to be supporting it.'
Jagan, however, defended such slogans stating that they only reflect the public anger. Stating that the slogan was taken out from a dialogue in the popular film: Pushpa-2, he asked: 'What's wrong with using a film dialogue on a banner? Aren't we still in a democracy?'
He said people were disgusted so much with Naidu's government that they were compelled to react strongly to its misrule.

Parliament Extends President's Rule In Manipur By 6 Months
New Delhi: Parliament on Tuesday approved a statutory resolution to extend President's Rule in Manipur for another six months beyond August 13. The resolution, which was passed by the Lok Sabha last week, was approved by the Rajya Sabha, amid uproar by Opposition members over the issue of electoral rolls revision in Bihar. As Opposition MPs continued their protests on SIR, Deputy Chairman Harivansh said it was a "constitutional obligation" to pass the resolution. "It's a statutory resolution. All of us, as MPs, have to follow constitutional provisions. These have a time limit within which it has to be disposed of..." Harivansh said. He then asked YSRCP member Subhash Chandra Bose Pilli to speak on the resolution. Opposition MPs however started raising slogans against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls exercise with TMP MPs raising slogans while standing next to the YSRCP member. BJD MP Muzibulla Khan said, "When Manipur law and order situation was bad, Article 356 was imposed. Today, the situation of law and order in Odisha is bad..." "Double engine government in Manipur failed.... Has the situation improved after so many months of President's Rule or not? Minister should inform us... The Centre should take responsibility, removing an elected government and imposing President's Rule repeatedly is also not good," he said. Moving the resolution for passage in the House, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said a rift was formed between two communities in Manipur due to a court order. "A rift was created between two communities in Manipur due to an order of the High Court related to a dispute on reservations. Those who say it is religious violence are wrong..." Rai said amid continued uproar by Opposition MPs. Rai also said Home Minister Amit Shah had undertaken a tour of violence- affected areas in Manipur. "He (Shah) met high level officials, security forces, civil society members..." Rai said, claiming that the northeast has witnessed widespread development under the Narendra Modi-led government. He also said since the President's Rule was imposed in Manipur, only one incident of violence has been reported. The Rajya Sabha later approved the resolution with a voice vote. The House also passed another resolution by voice vote that sought to amend the Second Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975. The resolution was moved by Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary. Manipur was put under President's Rule in February this year after Chief Minister N Biren Singh stepped down, nearly two years after the ethnic conflict began in the state between the valley-based Meitei community and the hills-based Scheduled Tribe Kuki-Zo group of communities.

Driver's murder: YSRCP MLC's wife moves Andhra Pradesh high court over investigation notices
Vijayawada: Lakshmi Durga, the wife of YSRCP MLC Ananta Uday Bhaskar (alias Ananta Babu), has moved the high court challenging the notices issued by the investigating officer in the case involving the murder of Subrahmanyam, the MLC's former driver. She sought directions to quash the notices issued under section 160 of CrPC as part of further investigation of the case. The counsel for the petitioner argued that the notices issued to Lakshmi Durga are contrary to the directions issued by the high court, which categorically said the investigation officer should conduct only a further investigation, not a reinvestigation of the case. However, in the absence of placing any new material on record, issuing notices to Lakshmi Durga would be a reinvestigation, not a further investigation, the counsel argued. Arguing on behalf of the police, public prosecutor Menda Lakshmi Narayana said the petition is infructuous as the notices have already been issued to others and statements have been recorded. He said there have been many judgements by the Supreme Court where the apex court said the investigation officer can summon anyone as part of further investigation of the case. He sought time to submit the details of Supreme Court orders setting forth judicial precedence in the matter. Considering the arguments, Justice Venkata Jyotirmayi Pratapa posted the matter for further hearing to Thursday.

Civil Supplies Minister urges officials to win public trust with better services
Minister for Civil Supplies Nadendla Manohar has urged officials of the Civil Supplies Department to earn the trust of consumers by ensuring efficient and transparent delivery of services. He was addressing a review meeting with officials from the North Andhra districts at the Collectorate in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday. The Minister emphasised the need for field-level inspections to understand ground realities and called for enhanced coordination among departments. He reviewed the progress of the Deepam-2 scheme, rice distribution, curbing rice smuggling, weights and measures enforcement, and food quality monitoring. Mr. Manohar stated that Mobile Dispensing Units (MDUs) had been phased out, and despite financial constraints, ration depots were operational. He said steps were being taken to ensure the supply of quality commodities through these depots. Door delivery of ration supplies is being continued for senior citizens aged above 65 and physically challenged persons between the 26th and 30th of every month, he said. While Deepam-1 benefited 1 crore people, Deepam-2 reached 95 lakh beneficiaries. The third phase aims to cover the remaining eligible households by overcoming technical hurdles, the Minister added. Raising concerns over complaints of ration delivery boys collecting money from beneficiaries, Mr. Manohar warned of strict action against dealers engaging in such malpractices. He also instructed officials to act promptly when gas subsidy amounts are not credited to beneficiaries' accounts. Smart ration cards will be distributed to applicants on August 25, he announced. Further, he directed officials to ensure the display of flex boards and QR codes at ration depots. Information on available commodities, supply schedules, and related details must be visible to the public, and dealers must refrain from charging any extra amount from cardholders. The meeting was attended by Civil Supplies Commissioner Sourabh Gaur, Visakhapatnam Joint Collector Mayur Ashok, GCC MD Kalpana Kumari, Anakapalli Joint Collector M. Jahnavi, Vizianagaram JC Sethu Madhavan, Srikakulam JC Farman Ahmed Khan, and Visakhapatnam DSO Bhaskara Rao.
