Lisbon girls cap perfect season
In other girls action Harrisville downed Morristown in the West Division finale for both teams and Canton downed Brushton-Moira in nonleague action.
In boys basketball action Harrisville downed Heuvelton and Morristown bested Edwards-Knox in NAC West games.
MCS 62 — E-K 48: The Green Rockets (3-9) opened a 32-23 halftime lead and raced away with a 23-10 third quarter run where Caleb Butler and Ethan Simmons each scored eight points with a pair of 3-pointers. Butler finished with three 3s in a 21-point outing and Simmons finished with 14 points. Landen Morrow tallied 10 with a pair of 3s.
Sawyer Belisle and Wyatt Clement scored seven and six points and Roland Simmons added four.
Kale Geer went 11-12 at the free throw line scoring 21 points Jaxin White tallied 11 for E-K (0-12). Rounding out the Cougars' scoring was Cooper Allen (9), Aiden Keddy (4), Lincoln Averill (1) and Caleb Robinson (2).
Morristown won the JV game to finish at 12-5.
Harrisville 65 — Heuvelton 45: The Pirates (10-2) bounced back from back-to-back losses to Lisbon and broke away from a 25-24 halftime lead with a 26-9 third quarter surge. Joe Shepperd scored 10 of his game-high 31 points in the surge and Aiden Chartrand scored 16 of his 19 points.
Joe Schrodt knocked down two 3-pointers in the first quarter, Jackson Jenack added four points and Liam Winters and Damian Hoinara added three and one.
The Bulldogs (7-5) Colt McAllister, Parker Felt and Dylan Ashlaw all hit for two 3-pointers in 14-point, 12-point and eight-point efforts. Landyn Ashlaw, Cory Ethridge and Jude Spooner added five, four and two points.
Chat 64 — SRF 40: Jake Johnston scored 34 points with seven rebounds and 10 steals as the Bulldogs (16-0) completed a perfect NAC East season.
"We got to celebrate 10 seniors today. These kids have worked very hard and have developed over the years. We were able to jump out early and get everyone lots of minutes. Now we have to focus and get ready for sectionals," said Chateaugay Coach Jason LaPlante.
Zach Parmeter and Jake Reynolds tallied nine and eight points and Grant Locklin grabbed 10 rebounds and five steals.
Peter Arcadi scored 17 points for the Saints.
GIRLS HOOPS
Lisbon 65 — AB 35: The Golden Knights scored 19 points in the first quarter and were never headed in wrapping up a 19-0 season. Ali Bell netted four 3-pointers scoring 25 points Kylie Quinlan and Sophia Walker each tallied 10. Regan Pirie followed with eight and the LCS scoring was rounded out by: Avery LaPage (2), Alyssa Flack (2), Adia Richards (4), Averee Bouchey (2) and Jalen Backus (2).
Patti Bridgenbaker with 11 points and Julie Fassbauer with 10 led the Alexandria Bay offense.
"A regular season for the record books. The first undefeated regular season in LCS Basketball history. 19-0 and so much to be proud of for this group.
Monday starts the new season with more focus and bigger goals. Let's keep rolling," said Lisbon Coach Matt Russell.
Harr 40 — Morr 14: Harrisville (6-6) took a 2-0 lead after one quarter and both teams were stuck on four for the early stage of the second quarter. The Pirates continued the spurt ability they have shown all season limiting the Rockets two four points in the second quarter while scoring 13 after being sparked by a pair of 3-pointers by Ava Bearor.
The Pirates followed with a 15-6 run the third quarter where Jaylin Fayette scored five points. Fayette scored a game-high 13 points for the Pirates and Bearor finished with nine points on three 3s.
Addison Jackson with seven, Isabelle Miller with six and Katelyn Kobylanksi with five rounded out the scoring for the winners. Scarlett Ritchie scored seven points with tough finishes in the lane for the Rockets followed Makia Greene with four and Issy Woodcock with two.
The JV game produced a 33-31 thriller decided the buzzer when Harrisville's Olivia McCormick buried a 12-foot jumper under tight coverage. Morristown had pulled even on driving basket by Bracelyn McGaw off a pass from Kinley Lalonde.
Canton 50 — B-M 35: Canton (7-12) picked up a nonleague win to aid their momentum heading into the Class B field of the Section 10 Tournament to go along with valuable seeding points. Tessa Alquire scored 15 points and Ashley Aldous, Winnie Downs and Calie Klassen each scored 10 to lead the Knights who jumped out to a 15-5 lead and enjoyed a 13-4 run in the third.
Sarah Aldous and Lilly Abplanalp added four and two points.
Addisyn Mitchell and Choe Poirier led Brushton-Moira with 18 and 15 points.

Harris throws for three touchdowns, Saskatchewan Roughriders dump B.C. Lions 33-27
VANCOUVER - Even after a dominant win, Trevor Harris and his team see room for improvement. The Saskatchewan Roughriders struck early on Saturday and jumped out to a 17-1 lead over the B.C. Lions before the end of the first quarter. They finished the night with a 33-27 win that wasn't nearly as close as the final score suggested. On the sidelines, Harris and his teammates felt they were in charge for the entire game — and that feeling may have led them to ease up late, the quarterback said. 'It's a great lesson for us to never let off the pedal,' he said. 'I thought we played a really good four quarters for the most part offensively. But you'd like for us to be able to finish a little bit better in the red zone, and a couple little mistakes here and there. 'But obviously, any time you can get a win on the road against a good B.C. club that's been playing very, very well lately, we'll take it.' Harris connected on 23 of his 30 passing attempts for 395 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in the West Division matchup. Kicker Brett Lauther added four field goals for the Riders (5-1), including a 45-yard strike in the first quarter. 'I'm very pleased with the entire team. Just how they responded to all the challenges they put on themselves is incredible,' said Saskatchewan head coach Corey Mace. 'But we're always talking about finishing and we want to finish the game even better than we did tonight. That's why I love this group — a win is awesome, and we'll celebrate that. But within those, we'll always try to find and look for ways to get better.' Nathan Rourke chalked up 337 passing yards with three TDs for the Lions (3-4). The Canadian QB made good on 27 of his 41 attempts, had one interception and was sacked once. The Riders had 506 yards of net offence across the game, compared to 373 yards for the Lions. 'I don't think we played well enough to win. I certainly didn't,' Rourke said. 'And I like to give credit where credit is due — I thought their defence, their team, that they outplayed us. But I don't think we're that much further behind. And so I think we beat ourselves.' Saskatchewan struck early on Saturday, with Harris lobbing a rainbow to Dohnte Meyers deep inside Lions' territory less than five minutes into the game. The American receiver nabbed the ball and darted into the end zone for Saskatchewan's first major of the night. The offensive onslaught continued with Harris sailing a 29-yard pass to Joe Robustelli to put the visitors back in scoring position late in the quarter. The quarterback followed up with a short dish to A.J. Ouellette, who dashed five yards into the end zone. Lauther made the convert and the Riders went up 17-1. B.C.'s offence finally found its footing with just seconds to go in the first. Rourke escaped the pocket and fired a 40-yard pass to Ayden Eberhardt, who stepped over the goal line for the Lions' first TD of the night. The two sides traded field goals in the second quarter, with Lauther connecting on 27- and 41-yard attempts and B.C. kicker Sean Whyte sending a 47-yard kick through the uprights. Saskatchewan headed into the locker room up 23-11. The Riders picked up right where they left off out of the break. Less than four minutes into the third quarter, Harris found Meyers deep in the red zone for a 30-yard touchdown. Saskatchewan's biggest problem of the game came midway through the third when Ka'Deem Carey was taken down by Lions linebacker Micah Awe, in a play that left the running back writhing on the turf in obvious discomfort. He was eventually helped off the field by two trainers, putting no weight on his right leg. Mace didn't have an update on Carey's status after the game. 'I don't know much about it, man. Just positive vibes for him,' the coach said. 'But happy as ever that he's part of this organization and he's got a lot of people in this locker room that love him.' B.C. got a spark late in the quarter when Eberhardt reeled in a 39-yard pass from Rourke. The Lions capped the drive with a gutsy play, going for pay dirt on third down where Rourke sent a rocket soaring to Stanley Berryhill III deep in the end zone. The home side then attempted a two-point convert, a move that paid off when the QB spun off a tackle and connected once again with Berryhill on a three-yard toss that cut Saskatchewan's lead to 33-19. With 19 seconds left in the fourth quarter, B.C. added one last major with Rourke handing off to Eberhardt and the receiver rushing in for his second TD of the night. Running back James Butler muscled his way through traffic for a two-point conversion that sealed the score at 33-27. That drive says a lot about the Lions, Rourke said. 'The guys want to fight, they want to play, they want to play for each other, they don't want to give up,' the quarterback said. 'That's what makes it frustrating, is that I think we've got the right pieces this year. We've just got to put it all together.' NOTES Riders receiver Samuel Emilus tallied 78 receiving yards in his return after missing three games with a foot injury. … Lions linebacker Micah Awe made the 500th defensive tackle of his CFL career. … Only Saskatchewan and the Calgary Stampeders have yet to lose a road game this season. Adams Jr. throws three TDs, Stampeders continue dominance with 41-20 win over Bombers
WINNIPEG - The Calgary Stampeders continued their dominance of the CFL on Friday night. Quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. completed 16 of 24 passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Stampeders to a 41-20 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Calgary improved to 5-1 and sits alone atop the CFL's West Division. Winnipeg dropped to 3-2 before a sold-out crowd of 32,343 at Princess Auto Stadium, an eighth straight full house. Vernon completed TD throws of 37 and 42 yards to Damien Alford before finding Dominique Rhymes with a three-yard toss. Calgary's defence also picked off Winnipeg's quarterbacks four times, with Damon Webb intercepting a Chris Streveler pass and returning it 15 yards for a touchdown. The convert gave the Stamps a 38-13 lead early in the fourth quarter. It was the second time the Stamps stomped Winnipeg in the last three weeks. They beat the Bombers 37-16 in Calgary three weeks ago. Backup quarterback Quincy Vaughn also scored on a one-yard touchdown run. Rene Parades kicked field goals of 32 and 37 yards, and converted all seven majors. Winnipeg quarterback Zach Collaros exited in the second quarter with what's believed to be a concussion after falling to the field from a hit. He completed eight of 11 passes for 151 yards and a four-yard touchdown to Nic Demski, with two interceptions, before Streveler took over. Streveler completed 15 of 24 passes for 128 yards and one late eight-yard touchdown to Kody Case, with two picks. Sergio Castillo kicked field goals of 46 and 58 yards and converted both TDs. Calgary had upped the score to 31-13 when Adams completed a one-yard TD toss to Rhymes early in the fourth quarter. After Adrian Greene picked off a Streveler pass near his own end zone to snuff out a promising Bombers drive, the Stamps marched down the field and Adams hit a wide-open Alford for a 42-yard touchdown. The Parades convert gave Calgary a 24-13 lead heading into the final quarter. The Stamps led 17-13 at halftime. Calgary had retaken the lead when Adams connected on a 37-yard touchdown pass to Alford. Winnipeg grabbed a 13-10 lead when Collaros capped off a 70-yard drive with a four-yard TD toss to Demski. The Stamps upped the score to 10-6 with a 32-yard field goal by Parades early in the second. Castillo had connected on a 58-yard field goal to pull Winnipeg within 7-6 following Calgary's touchdown. The Stamps had scored on their first drive, marching 70 yards on seven plays, capped off with a one-yard touchdown run by Vaughn. A Parades convert gave the Stamps a 7-3 lead. The Bombers opened the scoring on their first possession. After a sack negated a promising drive, Castillo booted a 46-yard field goal. WELCOME BACK Fans welcomed Bombers legend Milt Stegall back with a standing ovation before the game. Stegall, who was on the sidelines, returned to the TSN panel this weekend for the first time since the sudden death of his son, Chase. Marathon world record-holder Ruth Chepngetich provisionally suspended over doping violation
Marathon world record-holder Ruth Chepngetich has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for a doping violation. Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), a diuretic that is included on the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) banned list, was found in a sample of Chepngetich's urine collected on March 14, five days after she finished second in the Lisbon Half Marathon with a time of 1:06:20. Advertisement HCTZ is used clinically to treat fluid retention by increasing the flow of urine. This can be used to mask the presence of other banned substances. Under WADA regulations, the threshold for a positive test for HCTZ is 20ng/mL in urine. The 30-year-old's result was an estimated 3800 ng/mL, the AIU said. The Athletic has approached Chepngetich for comment. The marathoner was notified of the result and interviewed in person by the AIU on April 16 and was cooperative, the AIU said in a media release. On April 19, she opted for a voluntary provisional suspension while the investigation was ongoing, before the Notice of Charge and suspension from the integrity unit in July. She has the right to have her case heard at a disciplinary tribunal. Chepngetich is currently ranked eighth in the world for the women's marathon after becoming the first woman in history to clock a sub-two hour, 10 minute time over the distance in Chicago last year, besting the previous milestone time by nearly two minutes. She was due to compete in the London Marathon in April but pulled out ahead of the event saying she was 'not in the right place mentally or physically to race my best'.
