RTO officials said, "We checked 2,652 buses in their jurisdiction and booked 692 for violating various rules, collecting a fine of over Rs 16 lakh." The officials also said they consistently conducted checks on private luxury buses across the district to ensure they follow traffic rules, in view of fatal accidents involving private luxury buses in Nashik and elsewhere in the state.
Nashik RTO Pradeep Shinde said, "We are continuously acting against erring motorists across the district.
However, overloading trucks and buses are continuously on our radar. Over four months, private bus operators were booked for violation of different rules."
Officials said that most of the time, buses do not have properly functioning reflectors and indicators.
"There are also buses that do not carry fire-fighting instruments. Bus operators are found negligent about getting the non-functioning indicators, reflectors, wipers, lights, etc.,
repaired. However, these small things at times become the major reason for accidents," said an official.
However, there were also some bus operators who did not have the mandatory fitness certificates or did not pay the annual taxes, apart from the regular problem of carrying more than the permissible number of passengers in the buses.
A senior official from the Nashik RTO said, "Across the district, our flying squads are on the roads keeping a check on the overload trucks and private buses.
The action against such vehicles is taken on the Mumbai-Agra Highway, NashikPune Highway and other state highways in view of everyone's safety on these roads."

‘Crying To Amazon': Parents Wake Up To Rs 2.5 Lakh Amazon Bill. Courtesy: 5-Year-Old Son
The kid's order list seems no less than a Christmas list for Santa as it included a baby toy car, a bike and some other gaming stuff. Remember Ranveer Singh's dialogue from Padmaavat, 'Yeh Tohfa Humne Khud Ko Diya Hai?" Well, it looks like this 5-year-old boy took it really personally and spent around USD 3000 (nearly Rs 2.5 lakh) on an online shopping platform. Yes! You read that right. According to the New York Post, the parents of the toddler were left in shock after looking at their Amazon order history. A video, shared by the kid's Mother on TikTok, depicted the parents who were taken aback and questioned their son, who sat on the couch between his brother and sister unconcerned, about how he managed to rack up such a high bill. 'You bought seven cars on Amazon. You spent over USD 3,000 on Amazon today. How did you do that? You are in so much trouble," said the father. The kid's order list seems no less than a Christmas list for Santa as it included a baby toy car, a bike and some other gaming stuff. Well, things are not just over yet, as he also had another USD 700 (around Rs 60,000) worth of items ready in his cart that he unfortunately couldn't order as his parents caught him. The video caption read, 'And casually had another USD 700 of items in the cart ready to check out with before we caught him. I'm currently on the phone crying to Amazon – my husband is on the phone crying with our bank." This is not the first time something like this has grabbed the eyeballs. Earlier, a 5-year-old girl spent almost USD 4000 on a purchase on Amazon, giving her mother sticker shock. Lila Varisco of Westport, Massachusetts, was in a car with her family when she asked her mother, Jessica Nunes, to use her cell phone. Allowing her daughter to use it without keeping an eye on her turned out to be a big mistake. Thanks to the order track alerts, the woman got to know about her Amazon Shipment. However, she later discovered her credit card had been charged a total of USD 3,922 (around Rs 3.3 Lakh). Her order list included 10 children's dirt bikes and a children's two-seat ride-on Jeep (a treat for herself and her 2-year-old brother), which totalled USD 3,179. The girl also purchased 10 pairs of white cowgirl boots in women's size 7 for USD 743. view comments First Published: July 14, 2025, 11:11 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Jane Street deposits Rs 4,844 crore with Sebi, seeks easing of curbs
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) on Monday said US-based trading firm Jane Street has deposited Rs 4,844 crore into an escrow account in compliance with the regulator's July 3 interim order. The high-frequency trading (HFT) firm has also approached Sebi with a request to lift 'certain conditional restrictions' imposed under the same order. Sebi, which invoked anti-fraud provisions in the case, said it would issue appropriate directions in this regard. If the restrictions are eased, Jane Street may be able to resume its operations in the Indian market, where it is estimated to have executed Rs 44,358 crore worth of equity-options trades between January 2023 and March 2025. Sebi order alleged manipulation of Bank Nifty index In its 105-page interim order issued on July 3, Sebi had temporarily barred Jane Street, alleging manipulation of the widely tracked Bank Nifty index. The regulator also ordered the highest-ever impounding of Rs 4,844 crore, citing unlawful gains. Jane Street has stated that its deposit of the impounded amount has been made 'without prejudice to their rights and remedies which remain available to them in law and equity'. The New York-headquartered firm is expected to soon file an appeal before the Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT) challenging the Sebi order. Sebi has charged the firm with violating the Prohibition of Fraudulent and Unfair Trade Practices (PFUTP) regulations under the Sebi Act — a serious offence that carries significant penalties. BSE recovers after sharp fall triggered by Sebi action Shares of BSE rose nearly 4 per cent following the latest development. The scrip had previously declined 15 per cent after Sebi's action against Jane Street, which led to a more than 20 per cent drop in futures and options (F&O) turnover on the bourse. According to sources, should Jane Street be allowed to re-enter the Indian markets, the firm is likely to face heightened monitoring from both Sebi and the stock exchanges. 'Sebi remains committed to following due process and ensuring the integrity of the securities market,' the regulator said in a statement. Arbitrage strategy or market manipulation? Sebi's order accused Jane Street of executing a strategy in which it aggressively bought Bank Nifty constituent stocks in the cash and futures segments to artificially inflate the index. It then sold those holdings later in the day, while holding large short positions in index options, thereby profiting from the subsequent fall in the index. Jane Street, however, maintains that these trades were part of a standard 'index arbitrage' strategy — designed to exploit price differentials between related instruments, provide liquidity and enhance market efficiency. In its internal communications, the firm described Sebi's order as 'extremely inflammatory' and claimed it disregards the legitimate role of arbitrageurs in modern financial markets.
