Fever fans shouldn't panic about Caitlin Clark's ‘a few more years' comment

Indiana Fever superstar guard Caitlin Clark gave fans quite a scare on Monday night during a question-and-answer session with season ticket holders. While speaking about how she's made Indianapolis her home since joining the Fever in 2024, Clark sent some Fever fans into immediate panic by taking about her hopes for the future. "I'm from the Midwest, so this is one of the top places I wanted to come out of college, and I feel like the adjustment has been pretty easy," Clark told the crowd. "Our fans have been amazing, and [I] have amazing teammates. So I certainly love it here, and hopefully I can play here for a few more years." A few more years!? That's the kind of record scratch that Fever fans do not want to hear, particularly with Clark missing substantial time this season with two injuries. Clark seemed to get her teammates laughing after the comment and seemed to remark, "you don't know" after her answer... was that in reference to not knowing what the future holds for her in Indiana? Could Clark ever want out of Indy?! Ok... let's pump the breaks. Fever fans, before you break out the paper bags and start hyperventilating about a Fever future without Clark, the basketball superstar told ESPN last month that she and Indiana Pacers superstar guard Tyrese Haliburton both want to spend their careers with their respective franchise. "Ty and I would both tell you this is where we both hope to stay the rest of our careers," Clark told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne. "People are like, 'It's a small market.' But no, that's what makes it fun. These people, this is what means the world to them. We haven't hosted a Finals game in 25 years, and I've never seen this type of excitement. People are lining up three hours before the game. I literally just got the chills thinking about it. "And they're the same for the Fever. I think it's just like [Pacers coach] Rick [Carlisle] said, 'In 49 other states it's basketball, but here it's just really different.' I'm really fortunate to be able to play here and he's the same." Most likely, Clark was either just being funny (hence the laughs from her teammates) or just acknowledging the general, hypothetical uncertainty of the sports universe in the same year where the Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers. She's 99.99-percent most likely not saying she's interested in leaving some time soon, and we're pretty confident she wouldn't pick a season ticket holder event to drop a shock like that. Being that she's one of the most popular athletes on the planet and drives an absurd amount of revenue and fan interest for the Fever, we have a gut feeling Indiana will want her around for a very, very, very long time. Whether or not Clark wants that, we have no idea other than what she told ESPN. We have a great feeling that ESPN quote holds a lot more weight than an off-hand quip at a team event. However, even if on the extremely remote chance Clark has any reservations about her future in Indiana, you're absolutely not going to be able to glean that from this response because there's nothing here that would hint to that. In summary, Fever fans, breathe. This is a nothingburger. Clark isn't going anywhere any time soon. The odds of Indiana leaving her available for an expansion draft are basically zero, and the odds of them trading her to immediately spark a franchise rebuild are even less than zero and even more baffling than the expansion draft scenario. Most likely, Clark will get a record-breaking contract to keep her in a Fever uniform for years to come one of these days... maybe, well, in a few years.

Michael Kay rails against fans that want Yankees to ‘rebuild' at trade deadline

Michael Kay doesn't want to hear the complaining from Yankees fans and the idea that the team needs to start 'rebuilding' and fire manager Aaron Boone and general manager Brian Cashman after a miserable stretch. Kay, on his ESPN radio show, railed Monday against the notion that the Bronx Bombers should do anything but go for it at the July 31 trade deadline after reaching their first World Series since 2009 last season. Michael Kay didn't want to hear call from Yankees fans for the team to rebuild. ESPN Radio/X 'What are you trading? What are you rebuilding for? You're three games out of first place,' Kay said. 'So you think that's what happened over the last week is indicative of how they're going to be for the rest of the year? I don't see that. I don't see it. There are moves to be made. Brian Cashman does make moves at the trade deadline. He got Jazz Chisholm Jr. last year. And what did that do? That ignited them, and they got to the World Series.' The Yankees have lost 16 of their past 23 games, including two of three to the Mets in the second half of the Subway Series over Fourth of July weekend at Citi Field. They sit three games behind the first-plus Blue Jays, who swept them in Toronto last week. Boone's club, thanks to some stellar defense, was able to take the finale on Sunday against the Mets and head into a home series with Cal Raleigh and the Mariners beginning Tuesday. Aaron Judge of the Yankees celebrates with Cody Bellinger after he scores on his two-run homer in the fifth inning at Citi Field, Sunday, July 6, 2025. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST The team has a long list of needs heading to the trade deadline that includes help for the starting rotation and the infield. Kay, who also got into a tiff this week with Toronto Sportsnet host Jamie Campbell over an on-air jab, doesn't believe that means fans should be calling on the Yankees to punt on the season. 'And I love, by the way, Yankees fans that say, 'They should rebuild.' 'They should reload.' Really? You couldn't take losing in the World Series,' Kay said. 'You went to the World Series last year, and now you've had a bad three-week stretch, and you want the manager and GM fired. And you want to reload? And you're going to be able to handle that? You can't handle losing in the World Series!'
