Fertiliser, Agrochem shares gain on Q1, monsoon boost
ADVERTISEMENT Paradeep Phosphates ended 8.6% higher to an all-time high of ₹216.3, after the company's profit after tax rose 4,655% from the same period a year ago. Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilisers rallied 9.5%. Other stocks like Deepak Fertilisers, Rallis India, Sumitomo Chemical, GSFC and Coromandel International were up 4-6% on Tuesday.
"We've seen strong Q1 results from several companies in the agrochemicals and fertilisers space, including Coromandel International, Paradeep Phosphates, and Mangalore Chemicals & Fertilisers, driving stock gains on Tuesday," said Anita Gandhi, head of institutional broking at Arihant Capital. Gandhi said that a recent pickup in demand, following a post-Covid slowdown, along with supportive monsoon forecasts, which are expected to be 6% above normal, has improved sentiment.
Shares of most of these companies have moved up strongly in recent months, with Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilisers, Sharda Cropchem, Paradeep Phosphates, Rallis and Coromandel International up 36-115% over the past six months.Prashant Biyani, vice president at Elara Securities, said he remains 'constructive' on phosphatic fertiliser makers from a longer-term perspective, particularly on Coromandel and Paradeep Phosphate. He said that companies like Coromandel and Paradeep represent strong import replacement plays."India imports around 8 million tonnes of phosphatic fertilisers, and domestic capacity expansions position these firms well to meet future demand," said Biyani. Elara has a price target of ₹2,737 for Coromandel International.

Mumbai: WhatsApp banned more than 98 lakh accounts in India during June, as part of its efforts to curb abuse and harmful activity on the platform, according to WhatsApp's latest India Monthly Report. Of these, nearly 19.79 lakh accounts were banned proactively, before any user complaints were received, the report stated. In addition to banning accounts, WhatsApp also acted on grievances received from users in India. During the month, the platform received 23,596 complaints through its grievance mechanisms, out of which action was taken against 1,001 accounts. These actions included banning accounts or restoring previously banned accounts after reviewing complaints. Most complaints were related to ban appeals, with 16,069 such cases reported, leading to action on 756 accounts. Other categories included account support, product support, and safety-related issues, as per the report. WhatsApp said its abuse detection works at three stages -- during account registration, while messaging, and in response to negative feedback such as user reports and blocks. The company added that prevention is its primary focus, as stopping harmful activity before it happens is more effective than detecting it afterward. The platform emphasised its commitment to user safety, saying it uses end-to-end encryption, safety tools, and dedicated teams to fight abuse, misinformation, and security threats. It also works with experts to promote cybersecurity and protect election integrity, the messaging platform said in the report. Meanwhile, last month, the messaging platform has introduced two new tools - 'Status Ads' and 'Promoted Channels'. According to WABetaInfo, these features were available to select beta users on Android. Status Ads work like Instagram Story ads. Now, business accounts can post paid content that will show up in people's Status updates. These ads will appear between status updates from friends and family, with a clear "sponsored" label so people can easily spot them as ads. He expects seriousness from his interns even though he doesn't treat them seriously," read the post's caption. The screenshot shows the intern requesting the boss to grant them leave, owing to the poor health of the parents. However, the senior employee returned a passive-aggressive reply. 'Sir, I'm really sorry for the short notice, I won't be able to come in today. I have an emergency situation at home since my parents are really sick and on bed rest rn so I need to stay back. I am really sorry for the sudden absence, but it won't happen again. I'll send you the morphed runway videos by today," the intern wrote, as per the screenshot. 'When u are interning somewhere, there is a responsibility too…3 days before a big event u gone missing…anyways ur choice…this shows seriousness towards ur work," the boss replied. After the post went viral, social media users heavily criticised the boss for their rude response, with many advising the intern to consider looking for better opportunities elsewhere. 'Whether you are an intern or an employee, it doesn't matter. If you need to leave for family, take them without guilt and without being sorry. Work won't stop, but you will end up losing time spent with family. If your company lacks contingency measures in such emergency situations, it is their fault, not yours!" a user commented. 'If the place falls apart because of an intern taking a day off, they really shouldn't be keeping interns!" said another. 'Stop doing unpaid internships. It is a reflection of their work culture. A lot of companies simply hire interns to replace their full-time employees," a third user commented. Celebration goes wrong: Bakery of Shark Tank India fame makes blunder on birthday cake, writes embarrassing message
A Reddit user recently shared their disappointing experience with Creme Castle. Their mother's birthday celebration turned into a meme moment. The user paid ₹ 400 for a 300g chocolate truffle bento cake. The birthday cake order, placed via Swiggy, asked for the message 'Mummy' written in frosting. The screenshots of the order slip, cake and chat were posted under the 'r/sharktankindia' subreddit. Here's why. Creme Castle was featured on Shark Tank India Season 3, Episode 35. The bakery, run by Pranjay Mittal and Veena Mittal from Noida, is known for customised cakes delivered within two hours. The company offer cakes, pastries cheesecakes and more. The company claimed to offer 40% lower prices than other brands. 'No bakery in the world has more designs and flavour profiles than Creme Castle,' Pranjay Mittal claimed on the Shark Tank India episode. It has many outlets in Delhi NCR. Before appearing on the show, it already served over 5 lakh customers, it said. On the show, the company asked for ₹ 60 lakh for 1.5% equity, valuing their brand at ₹ 40 crore. After discussions, CarDekho's Amit Jain invested ₹ 60 lakh for 2.5% equity. LiveMint has reached out to the company and is awaiting a formal statement. Meanwhile, a company insider said the company had already settled the dispute with the customer. Some social media users shared similar experiences in the Reddit thread. One of them criticised the bakery and claimed their family had suffered from food poisoning after eating the company's fruit cake. 'Complained but ZERO replies. No accountability,' the user wrote. However, some users thought it was not an issue to ask for a refund for. 'Honestly, all you had to do was remove the chocolate disc on which it was written. Why make such a fuss? And I agree it was very weird of you to ask for refund for such petty thing,' one user said.
