Initially, Coe led the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force.
The group was set up to explore options for developing a new stadium and regenerating the surrounding area which also featured the Gary Neville.
But Coe will now be influential in the next stage of the project after being named as the Chair-Designate of the Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) for the Old Trafford Regeneration project.
Coe will now play a key role in the next stage of the project as plans advance to deliver a new 100,000-seater stadium at Old Trafford.

He said in a statement: 'I'm delighted that I've been asked to be the chair designate of the proposed Old Trafford Mayoral Development Corporation.
'Throughout my career, I've seen the difference that sports-led regeneration can make in fostering strong communities and acting as a catalyst for economic growth.
"That was certainly true of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics – and now, I believe, Greater Manchester's moment has come.
'Working with Trafford Council and the Mayor, there's huge potential to bring new homes and jobs to the area around the Manchester United stadium.
What we know about the 'new' Old Trafford
MANCHESTER UNITED plan to build a new stadium rather than redevelop Old Trafford.
The decision was made after a number of fact-finding missions to other stadiums including the Bernabeu and Nou Camp.
The cost of the project is expected to be a staggering £2billion.
A capacity of 100,000 is expected.
It is felt that a club of United's standing should have a new state-of-the-art facility.
The new stadium will be built on land adjacent to the Red Devils' current home.
United are looking to not only build a stadium but regenerate the area of Trafford where the ground will stand.
There had been plans to KEEP Old Trafford rather than demolish it, and use it as a scaled down second venue.
However, it's looking increasing likely that it will in fact be entirely demolished.
The club consulted with 30,000 fans about what to do and believe there is roughly a 50-50 split on staying or moving.
The club have appointed the architects Foster + Partners to come up with a "masterplan". The company were behind Wembley Stadium.
Old Trafford has been United's home since 1910.
The target is for completion by 2030.

"And looking ahead, I see a chance to bring the FIFA Women's World Cup to a new Old Trafford Stadium in 2035.

As a runner, Coe won four Olympic medals over 800m and 1,500m but he retired in 1990 and later moved into politics.
He also played a major part in helping London win the right to host the 2012 Olympics serving as the chairman of the campaign's committee.

United said they will look for public funding for infrastructure of the £2BILLION project - but will not look for money for the stadium build.
Coe's appointment does need to be signed off by government - but that is viewed as a formality.
United are also set to appoint a head of senior recruitment, according to The Athletic.
This newly created role will oversee the club's senior scouts and report to director of recruitment Christopher Vivell.

It shows the strength in depth England have, and it's sadly in stark contrast to what's going on here in Wales. We've gone to Japan, pretty much full strength really barring two Lions players. Obviously Tomos Williams is out for the Lions now, and was very unfortunate. Had he been fit, I think it was probably his position to lose, the way he started the tour out there. Then there's Jac Morgan, who was outstanding in his last game. If you're picking a Test side on the basis of that performance, he'd be the first name on the teamsheet. Given he's starting on Saturday, let's hope hope he puts in a top performance and nails himself down as a Lions starter. That's not just results, but also the occasions themselves. Crowds have been down and it just feels like even the derbies don't capture the imagination anymore. Not so long ago when I was still refereeing them, the derby matches would be full on, on and off the field. Judgement Day would reach more than 60,000 supporters in our iconic stadium. The number of huge players, big household names, who have left the Welsh game or retired too is another factor. If you look at the Welsh side now, apart from two or three players, you haven't really got any world-class players unfortunately, and there doesn't seem to be much more coming through. Our U20s have always been strong, but apart from a great win against England in this year's Six Nations it's been pretty poor for them for a while now. There are potentially a few reasons for that. We have to look at our structure and our academy set-ups. How many players we're losing to outside of Wales, how many players aren't playing the game. That all needs to be looked at and addressed. It's not as simple as getting a top-class coach in, there has to be a change in a lot of other things too really. You look at New Zealand, they haven't been the same side as they were about 10 years ago. They're rebuilding, but when they're rebuilding they still have a core of world-class players to pull them through. Wales have a couple of those players but there's not enough of them, and when confidence is low it has a knock-on effect. The structure needs to change and I think they really need to look at the pathways. Morgan, who you could arguably say could be one of the first names on the Lions teamsheet if he plays well again on Saturday, he's one who didn't come through that academy pathway. Played for Aberavon, and look at him now. The same for Leigh Halfpenny. He was let go by the academy at the Ospreys who decided he wasn't good enough and was picked up by Cardiff. If I wasn't refereeing in the URC or Pro 14 or whatever, I'd referee in the Welsh Premiership back in the day. Whether it be Aberavon v Neath or Pontypridd v Newport, they were good quality games with some big names playing for them. They were full-on occasions. I think the Premiership now could really be the jewel in the crown. Whether they have four, three or two regions, they have to make sure the Premiership below is a strong 12-club competition. That then creates a strong line of feeder clubs for the regions. That's where I think they've gone wrong over the years. They keep messing around with the Premiership. Taking it up to 16 teams, then down again. It feels like they don't really know what to do with it. But the Premiership could be like the Championship is in England. Top-quality rugby with traditional rivalries. Let's be honest, supporters of Pontypridd aren't going to go watch Cardiff, and supporters in Ebbw Vale aren't going to watch Newport. They're going to watch their club. But if they get a successful region above them where their players feed into it then maybe they would go along to support that too. Get those strong clubs in a strong competition again with players who have perhaps not quite broken through yet or can't quite get a game for their regional sides involved like they used to. Regional rugby or reduction in clubs was needed, don't get me wrong. We couldn't carry on as things were because the money wasn't there for 10 pro clubs. We haven't got it now as evidenced by the fact we're still struggling with four. So something had to change. But we neglected those rugby strongholds with those changes. We need to get it right at that level. Then you'll get the supporters of those teams potentially taking an interest. If a supporter sees three or four of their players going off to play for the regions above packed full of top-quality players bringing success in results and feeling they are part of it, they might be more inclined to go and support them. But maybe I could be wrong. Maybe the tribalism is too deep for them to go and support a region or super club, whatever they may be called. But at the moment, there seems to be a complete disconnect between what is needed to make Welsh rugby strong and successful again. From the schools, to the community clubs, to the Premiership and the regions. It needs to be all part of one pyramid, with the national team at the top, but supported by good foundations below. You can't build a skyscraper on the foundations of a bungalow, remember.

Marcus Rashford handed exit route as Viktor Gyokeres makes shock decision
Ruben Amorim has been frustrated by slow progress on transfer deals at Manchester United after seeing just one signing - Matheus Cunha from Wolves - arriving through the door at Old Trafford Manchester United have one signing through the door this summer, but they have no plans to stop there as Ruben Amorim continues revamping his struggling squad. So far, Matheus Cunha is the only player who has arrived at Old Trafford after being signed for £62.5million and there are some frustrations from fans over the lack of progress over other deals. United are still locked in talks with Brentford over a possible move for Bryan Mbeumo but have been unable to agree a fee. There are also a number of unwanted stars like Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho whose futures need finalising as the club look to balance the books and rake in more funds for transfers. With that in mind, Mirror Football has outlined some of the biggest Manchester United transfer stories and gossip. Barcelona make Rashford "priority" target Marcus Rashford will be desperate to make his exit from United this summer after being cast aside by Amorim, forced to train by himself away from the squad at Carrington. United did give Rashford extra time to find a new club following his short loan spell at Aston Villa last season - and now the England star may have found a solution. According to Sky in Germany, Barcelona had seen a bid for Liverpool winger Luis Diaz rejected and are now prepared to go "all-in" on Rashford. The report says boss Hansi Flick has already given the green light to the move, which Barcelona hope will be a loan deal. United might also have to subsidise a portion of Rashford's wages due to the player's eye-watering £325,000-a-week wages and he is said to be willing to lower his wage demands in order to secure an exit. Gyokeres reconsidering United move For months, Manchester United were being talked about as the leading frontrunners to sign Viktor Gyokeres, due to the striker's relationship with boss Amorim. The Portuguese coach helped turn the Swedish star into one of the deadliest strikers in world football but United's failure to qualify for European football saw them fall away from contention - with Arsenal stepping up as favourites. It's understood Arsenal are offering a package of €65m (£56m) plus future payments of €5m and €10m (£8.6m) in add-ons but are around £4m off of Sporting's valuation. Sporting have asked for a "cooling off period" before restarting talks and Gyokeres has reportedly had enough of being patient and has gone on strike at the club - refusing to turn up for the start of pre-season. And now Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha have claimed Gyokeres has opened the door to United once again and is giving the Red Devils a "second look" after being forced to wait to join Arsenal. United want to add another forward player alongside Cunha and would jump at the chance to sign Gyokeres, who netted 54 goals in 52 games last season, as they continue to reach an impasse in talks for Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo. Mbeumo "frustrated" over transfer delay Another player who has been left impatient over a move is United target Mbeumo, who the Red Devils have been in talks to such for much of the summer so far. United have had two bids rejected for Mbeumo, the latest being one of £62.5m - the same fee they paid for Cunha. It's understood Brentford are looking for more than £60m but want the full fee paid upfront, while United want to pay it in instalments. Mbeumo was Brentford's star player last season, netting 20 goals in the Premier League and is seen as a player who could overhaul United's fortunes. But United are yet to return with a third bid and the saga is threatening to drag out even further - causing "frustration" from Mbeumo. Cameroon coach Ashu Cyprian Besong said: 'Yes, obviously he's very frustrated with how long it's taken. But he's a professional and anticipates these things. I spoke to him about a week ago and he is very calm with everything that is going on. "But of course, he's already told them he wants to go to United. He just wanted the two clubs to find an agreement, as he's very grateful for the opportunity that he's been given by Brentford in his career."
