Newtown 10k run: Man proposes to girlfriend at race end

The Newtown 10k run can be an emotional day for the hundreds of people taking part but for one couple it was extra special.
Richard Trowles proposed to his girlfriend Katie Costello after completing the 6.2-mile route around Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn on Sunday morning (May 25) in front of friends, spectators and fellow runners who shared their special moment.
Richard, who crossed the line in 38 minutes, had a nervous 20-minute wait before he got down on one knee to pop the question to his girlfriend of seven months at the finish line in the Back Lane car park.
'I was really nervous,' Richard said. 'I said to my friend that I couldn't bottle it because there were so many cameras on us when Katie's name was called as she crossed the line,' Richard said.

'She had her hand over her mouth gobsmacked. It was an amazing day.
'The whole thing was amazing with our friends watching it. Everyone knew apart from Katie. She did question why I carried my bag to the start line!
Since meeting on the running app Strava, the couple have been committed to making their relationship work long-distance with 41-year-old Richard travelling all the way from County Durham to Oswestry every fortnight to visit 36-year-old Katie.
Both are keen runners, having had their first date while on a run in Chirk before going on to complete 10k races in Wrexham and Welshpool.
Richard said: 'Since October, everything feels perfect. We've got so much in common since our first date.
"I was going to propose at the Berlin Marathon in September or at the Great North Run but I just changed my mind to do it this weekend to show my commitment.
"I spoke to a friend who helped me pick a ring and I spoke to the race organiser Alan about the surprise.
'After crossing the line I quicky got changed, got the ring out of my bag and met her and it happened. She was wondering what was going on!'
A video of the proposal was filmed beside the finish line on Sunday morning when Richard plucked up the courage to pop the question.

Princess replied to the sweet post: "Thank you dad." It comes as her mum Katie Price was forced to delete her birthday tribute to Princess - as she posted it 48 hours early. The mum-of-five took to social media to wish her eldest daughter a happy birthday on Friday. The 47-year-old who is currently in Dubai posted a sweet photo of her daughter on social media. She captioned the image: "Happy 18th Birthday to the most amazing daughter. "And my best friend @princess_andre. I love you so much." Mortifying moment Katie Price gets daughter Princess' birthday WRONG and has to delete tribute But Princess Andre was born on the 29th of June and Katie posted it on the 27th. Realising her mistake, Katie then deleted her post and put up another image of her stunning daughter. This time she captioned it with two love hearts and said: " 2 days until Princess turns 18 can't believe it xx." Princess has already achieved much as she turns 18. She has passed her driving test and shared pictures of her white Audi A1 she had bought. Not only does the young teen have a swanky ride, but she even got a personalised number plate to boot. Princess is already signed to the same agency as older brother, Junior. But she hopes the fly-on-the-wall series will help launch her catwalk career. A TV insider told The Sun: 'Princess is very conscious of the fact her mum got famous very early in her career, so Katie is a big inspiration to her. 'Bagging her own TV show is a huge deal, but producers are keen to stress it is about her and not her famous parents Katie and Peter started their relationship in 2004 after getting together on I'm A Celebrity . . . Get Me Out Of Here!. They had Junior and Princess during their four-year marriage. But their relationship fell apart in 2009 and they divorced.

Katie Price makes telling promise to 'amazing daughter' Princess on her 18th

Katie Price posts heartwarming tribute to daughter Princess to mark the celebration of her 18th birthday and vows to enjoy more adventures with her in the future Katie Price proudly paid tribute to her eldest daughter Princess in celebration of her 18th birthday. The 47 year old mum of five took to Instagram and poured her heart out to Princess who she described as the "most amazing daughter." Princess is the daughter of Katie and Peter Andre and the former couple, who split in 2009 after four years of marriage, also have a son named Junior. ‌ In her post, Princess is seen lying on her side in a black embellished long sleeve dress. In the picture there were also balloons in the background and an impressive looking cake with the number 18 perched on top. ‌ Katie wrote: "Happy birthday to the most amazing daughter @princess_andre now your 18 so much more adventures we can do." She added: "I love you baby girl always and forever." And in a previous post Katie posted a picture of Princess who is knelt down in the same dress. But this time the 18 year old aspiring singer is seen holding the cake in one hand while seemingly tasting it. And in that post, Katie wrote: "My whole world, My everything, Happy birthday to my eldest daughter Princess. My mini me. I love you." She accompanied the post with a pink heart emoji. ‌ But this comes days after she made an awkward blunder as she posted a heartfelt message two days before Princess' birthday. The former glamour model posted her tribute on Friday June 27 but Princess was not born until June 29. ‌ After noticing her mistake, Katie quickly deleted it. But before she managed to remove it, fans saw that she had penned: "Happy 18th birthday to the most amazing daughter and my best friend @princess_andre I love you so much." Instead, she quickly replaced the post with a countdown one in a desperate bid to claw back from her public mistake. She then said: "2 days until Princess turns 18 can't believe it xx." ‌ As a birthday present to herself, Princess bought a top of the range Audi with the money she earned and help from her dad Peter. Speaking about how she planned to celebrate her birthday in an exclusive chat with the Mirror, she told us: "To be honest, I'm not fussed on doing a big thing." She added: "I'll be very happy with a quiet dinner and maybe going somewhere after, so long as it's memorable and the people I love – my family and friends – are with me. I've left it in my dad and Emily's hands. It's going to be a surprise." Explaining how she planned to celebrate with her mum, she went on to say: "Maybe we'll have a nice dinner together. I'm sure Mum will have something planned for me."

'I partied with my boyfriend at the Big Weekend - the next day he took his life'

Dad Richard Scriven was planning to propose to girlfriend Lisa Carol Pratt but tragically ended his own life hours after he had watched his favourite artist Tom Grennan on stage A woman has spoken of her heartbreak after finding her boyfriend dead just hours after they were having fun at Radio 1's Big Weekend. Lisa Carol Pratt, 33, had travelled to Sefton Park in Liverpool with dad-of-one Richard Scriven for the popular event on May 24 and the pair enjoyed the music festival as they prepared to mark their four year anniversary. Richard, 36, was desperate to see his favourite artist Tom Grennan on stage as the couple made the most of the day. But the next morning she called round and found him dead at his home after he had decided to take his own life. She said: "We went to the Big Weekend in Liverpool. Richard really wanted to see Tom Grennan. We had a really good day. He was a little bit up and down but we left on a positive note and I dropped him at home." Tragically and traumatically Lisa travelled to Richard's home and made the devastating discovery. She told the LiverpoolEcho: "I knew he was gone. I haven't got any answers, it is very hard. When you spend so much time with someone, I don't know how I didn't pick up on anything. I keep blaming myself." Lisa is now trying to keep Richard's memory alive and has sent a special bottle with a message and a picture of them together into the sea at Blackpool, one of the couple's favourite places, where they had their first date. she added: "We met in 2021 because we were both working for a care company at the time. "Richard was agency staff and to be honest I was dreading the shift because I thought I would be showing someone how to do everything, but it was a really good shift. At first I was trying to help him because he was struggling with his mental health and I am a mental health first aider - but then he asked me out on a date, we went to Blackpool - and I think we just realised we were a perfect match." Lisa said Richard, who had a four-year-old son from a previous relationship, had always struggled with his mental health and had leaned on her for support. On the day of the Radio One festival in Liverpool, she said they had enjoyed their time together. To add to her heartbreak, Lisa found out after Richard's death that he was planning to propose to her later this year. She said: "I found out that he had actually been planning to marry me since our first Christmas together. "We were planning to go to New York later this year and that is where he was going to propose. I am now carrying his ashes in a necklace and also in a ring that I have which is very similar to the engagement ring he was going to propose with - because I definitely would have said yes." On Friday, which would have been the couple's fourth anniversary, Lisa travelled to Blackpool with her parents, where she let off a balloon and sent the bottle with the message and the picture out to sea. She has since set up a Facebook group called Lisa and Richard's journey message in a bottle, which she is hoping people will join and post any updates about the bottle's journey if they come across it. The group can be found here. She explained: " I am trying to keep Richard's memory alive as much as possible. We always said we would go travelling together and this is the only way we can do it now. I have made a group on Facebook that will hopefully help me follow our journey in the bottle. I have asked anyone who comes across it to post in there so that we can follow where we have been together."
