PSB bars federations from competing in India without prior approval
The decision was taken during the 34th meeting of the PSB Board held on July 23, 2025, PSB spokesperson Khuram Shahzad PSB told Business Recorder.
A circular in this regard has also been issued, explicitly urging all national federations to strictly adhere to this directive.
'In view of the current security situation, no national federation shall make any commitment or agreement regarding participation in sports events in India without prior permission from PSB,' the circular reads.
The development comes amid debate that whether Pakistan hockey team should travel to India for Men's Asia Cup Hockey tournament.
Earlier this month, media reports suggested that Pakistan will not travel to India for upcoming hockey tournaments over 'security' concerns, potentially jeopardising their place in next year's World Cup.
The nuclear-armed neighbours traded the worst violence in decades during a four-day conflict in May that killed 70 people.
Pakistan was due to participate in the Men's Asia Cup for field hockey to be hosted by India in August and September, for which the federation had sought the government's clearance.
'After the recent war the security and safety of our hockey players will be at risk,' said a sports ministry source, who asked not to be identified.
Pakistan will also not participate in the Junior World Cup in India in November, the source said.
In May, national hockey team captain Imad Shakeel Butt had also called for the relocation of the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 from India, citing escalating political tensions between the two countries.
'The Asia Cup is crucial for us as it's a World Cup qualifying event. Given the current political situation between Pakistan and India, we believe the venue should be reconsidered,' he said.

Inter Miami calls Lionel Messi's leg injury ‘minor'
A return date for Lionel Messi to the Inter Miami lineup is uncertain, but the Herons announced Sunday that the superstar's right leg injury isn't serious. Messi came out of Miami's Leagues Cup match against Necaxa on Saturday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in the 11th minute, shortly after getting hurt in a collision with two opponents. After Messi underwent medical tests, the team issued a statement on Sunday that read, in part, 'The results confirmed a minor muscle injury in his right leg. His medical clearance will depend on his clinical progress and response to treatment.' In Messi's absence, Inter Miami rallied late to equalize the match at 2-2, then prevailed 5-4 in a tiebreaking penalty-kick shootout. Through two Leagues Cup matches, Miami sits in second place in the MLS standings with one regulation win and one shootout win, good for five points. The top four of the 18 MLS clubs in the competition will advance to the quarterfinals, where they will be joined by the top four of the tournament's 18 Liga Mx clubs. The Herons conclude the group phase with a Wednesday home match at Pumas UNAM. Inter Miami resumes MLS regular-season action on Aug. 10 at Orlando City. Naqvi announces venues for Asia Cup

Photo: AFP/File Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi announced the venues and match timings of the much-anticipated Asia Cup, slated to be held from September 9 to 28 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Taking to his X handle, ACC chairman Naqvi said that the eight-team tournament will be played across two venues in the UAE – Dubai International Cricket Stadium and Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi's Zayed Cricket Stadium will host eight Asia Cup 2025 matches, including one Super Fours clash on September 23. The majority of the continental tournament's matches, however, will be played at the Dubai stadium, including the blockbuster Pakistan-India clash on September 14 and the highly-anticipated final on September 28. All of the matches will start at 6 PM as per the Gulf Standard Time, except for the September 15 clash between the UAE and Oman. The upcoming edition of the continental tournament will be played in T20 format, serving as a preparatory event for the T20 World Cup 2026, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February. A total of eight teams, divided into two groups, will vie for the prestigious title. Fierce rivals Pakistan and India are placed in Group A, alongside UAE and Oman, while Group B features Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Hong Kong. The eight-team tournament will get underway on September 9 with a curtain-raiser between Afghanistan and Hong Kong in Abu Dhabi. Pakistan, on the other hand, will start their campaign against Oman on September 12 before taking on arch-rivals India on September 14. The green shirts' remaining group-stage match is scheduled on September 17 against hosts UAE. Upon completion of the group stage, the top two teams from each pool will qualify for the Super Four, meaning Pakistan and India may face each other once more in the Asia Cup on September 21. The top two teams in the standings after the conclusion of the Super Four stage will qualify for the final, scheduled to be played on September 28.
