New international Chinese film awards announced, to be held in Singapore in December
Announced at a press briefing on Monday (Jun 23), the inaugural Golden Singa Awards is slated to take place on Dec 1, 2025 in conjunction with the Singapore Media Festival, hosted by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA).
The Golden Singa Awards aims to establish itself as the region's leading cultural and entertainment event within the next five years, positioning itself alongside Asia's most prestigious film honours, including China's Hundred Flowers and Golden Rooster Awards, the Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan, and the Hong Kong Film Awards.
'The Awards will serve as a high-profile platform to showcase cinematic excellence, honour outstanding talent and foster cross-border creative exchange," said Dasmond Koh, chief executive officer of NoonTalk Media, who will also serve as the chairman of the Golden Singa Awards committee.
Koh added: "As a Singapore-based initiative, it also reflects our company's broader strategy to elevate brand visibility and expand our presence in the Chinese media and entertainment landscape."
Award categories include best feature film, best director, best male and female actor and supporting actors, best screenplay and best art direction, among others. The film awards ceremony will utilise a dual-track participation system combining open registration and targeted invitations.
The Golden Singa Awards is subject to the execution of definitive agreements between NoonTalk and Ng Tse Meng, honorary chairman of Ruifeng Wealth Management Pte Ltd.

Watch Star Awards 2025: Live red carpet arrivals and awards show
This year's Star Awards celebrates its big 30th anniversary on Sunday (Jul 6) with a nostalgia-filled show honouring the best of Singapore's Chinese entertainment. Japan to export used destroyers to Philippines to deter China: Report
Bilateral military cooperation has included joint exercises, a Japanese radar aid package and a high-level strategic dialogue. Last year they signed a reciprocal access agreement, the first such for Japan in Asia, allowing deployment of forces on each other's soil. To clear military equipment export restrictions for the destroyers under Japan's pacifist mandates, Tokyo will treat the installation of equipment and communication systems requested by Manila as a joint development project, the Yomiuri said. The Abukuma-class destroyer escort, a relatively small type of destroyer with a 2,000-ton standard displacement, is operated by a crew of about 120 and is armed with anti-submarine and anti-ship missiles, torpedo tubes and guns, according to a Japanese navy website. The Philippine Navy does not have destroyers, only frigates and corvettes, which are typically smaller and lighter-armed vessels.

Japan PM says won't 'easily compromise' to Trump on tariffs
TOKYO: Japan's Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said on Sunday (Jul 6) that he won't "easily compromise" in talks with Washington as Tokyo seeks to avert United States President Donald Trump's threat to impose tariffs of up to 35 per cent on Japanese goods. "We will not easily compromise. That's why it is taking time and why it is tough," Ishiba told a television talk show. His comments came as Japan rushes to negotiate with the Trump administration before the Wednesday deadline for trade deals. While Trump imposed a sweeping 10 per cent tariff on imports from most trading partners in April, he unveiled - then paused - higher rates on dozens of economies including Japan to allow room for negotiations. This pause will expire Jul 9, meaning the elevated rates are due to kick in if countries fail to reach agreements with Washington to avert them. Trump has said he was going to write a letter to Japan, asking it to "pay a 30 per cent, 35 per cent or whatever the number is that we determine," and called the bilateral trade relation "unfair". He has particularly pressed Japan to accept more US automobiles and rice. Ryosei Akazawa, Tokyo's trade envoy, held telephone calls with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on Thursday and Saturday. In the Sunday television show, Ishiba reiterated that Japan, as the biggest investor nation in the US economy, should be treated differently from other countries. "What is unfair? How is it unfair? We need to examine each one (of the US claims)", he said. "We are allies, but we have to say what we have to say. We are the world's largest investor nation and the largest job creator (in the US). We are different," he said. On another Sunday television show, Ishiba said Japan was "preparing to deal with all kinds of situations", when asked about how he plans to deal with Trump's letter.
