Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 22 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel graced the state-level celebration of the 11th International Yoga Day, which was held at Sharmishtha Lake in Vadnagar, the ancestral hometown of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a release said.
The event was organised under the theme 'Yog for One Earth, One Health,' reflecting Gujarat's vision of a 'Healthy Gujarat--obesity-free Gujarat.'
As per the official statement, Gujarat achieved a remarkable milestone on this Yog Day by setting a new Guinness World Record, with 2,121 Yog practitioners performing Bhujangasana simultaneously at the iconic Sharmishtha Lake in Vadnagar under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. This achievement adds to Gujarat's growing list of global recognitions, as the state had previously secured two prestigious records -- in 2023, during the 9th International Yog Day in Surat, 1.50 lakh people performed Yog together, and on 1st January 2024, 50,000 participants performed Surya Namaskar simultaneously across 108 locations. Both feats have been officially recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel participated in the Yog Day celebrations held in Vadnagar. He was joined by Health Minister Rushikesh Patel, MLAs from Mehsana district, the District Panchayat President, the Municipal President, Gujarat Yog Board Chairman Sheeshpal Rajput, along with other dignitaries and officials. Everyone at the event watched the live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's inspiring address from Visakhapatnam.
Extending greetings on this occasion, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel stated that yoga is a timeless aspect of India's ancient culture, a priceless gift to all of humanity. It is through the visionary leadership and consistent efforts of PM Modi that this ancient tradition has received global recognition, with the United Nations declaring International Yoga Day a worldwide celebration.
Highlighting that this year marks the 11th International Yog Day since its inception in 2015, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel stated that Yog is not merely a form of exercise but an art of living. He emphasised that yoga is a science that unites the body, mind, and spirit with focus and balance. Through the regular practice of yoga, individuals can experience stress relief, enhanced immunity, and a more positive outlook on life. Moreover, yoga teaches self-discipline, restraint, and inner awakening.
CM further mentioned that approximately 1.5 crore people across the state--from municipal corporations to village panchayats--participated in collective yoga sessions to mark the 11th International Yoga Day. He also made a special reference to the completion of 11 years of successful governance under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the Prime Minister's efforts in promoting public health, from the widespread adoption of yoga to the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
He added that, thanks to the inspiration and persistent efforts of Prime Minister, India's ancient legacy of yoga and pranayama has now become an integral part of daily life for people across the globe.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel stated that we must collectively resolve to build a 'Healthy Gujarat, Obesity-Free Gujarat' while honouring our cultural heritage and ancient traditions. He emphasised the need to transform Yog -- rooted in our ancient legacy -- into a mass movement as part of the broader vision of creating a developed, healthy, and prosperous Gujarat for Viksit Bharat in 2047.
Health Minister Rushikesh Patel remarked that Pranayam has been deeply interwoven in our daily lives since ancient times. He stated that yoga and pranayama not only contribute to physical well-being but also keep the body energised. He further added that PM Modi has remarkably brought the ideals of yoga -- along with our literature and cultural heritage -- to global attention, establishing their value in promoting health.
The Minister also highlighted that the world is now ready to embrace our ancient customs and traditions rooted in our rich history and culture. Let us honour our ancient heritage by making yoga a part of our daily lives and moving towards a healthier, balanced future.
Chairman of the Gujarat State Yog Board, Sheeshpal Rajput, delivered the welcome address. He elaborated on how yoga connects the practitioner not just to physical wellness, but also to mental and spiritual well-being.
The event was graced by the presence of District Panchayat President Trusha Patel, Member of Parliament Haribhai Patel, MLAs Kirit Patel, Sardar Chaudhary, and Mukesh Patel, Chairman of Dudhsagar Dairy Ashok Chaudhary, eminent personality Girish Rajgor, Principal Secretary M. Thennarasan, District Collector S.K. Prajapati Ravindra Khatale, Municipal Commissioner, District Development Officer Dr. Hasrat Jasmine, and Resident Additional Collector Jashvant K. ‘Women-led development' paving way for new India: PM Modi at Mann Ki Baat

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the mantra of 'women-led development' is creating a new future for India. He stressed that the women are not only charting a fresh course for themselves but also for society at large. In his monthly radio broadcast Mann Ki Baat, the PM highlighted numerous examples of women-led initiatives from across the country. He said, 'In India, from health to social security, the country is moving ahead with the feeling of saturation in every field. This is also a great picture of social justice. These successes have instilled a belief that the coming times will make India stronger.' A vast majority of the Indian population is now benefiting from some form of social protection. Referring to a recent report by the International Labour Organization, he said, 'The report mentions that over 64% of the country's population is now definitely availing of some social protection benefit or the other. Social Security is one of the biggest coverage in the world.' He went on to say that approximately 95 crore people in the country are currently availing benefits from various social security schemes. In contrast, back in 2015, less than 25 crore people were covered. Taking a veiled swipe at the previous Congress-led government, without naming it directly, the PM remarked, 'Just a few days ago, the imposition of Emergency on the country completed its 50 years. We countrymen have observed the 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas'. We should always remember all those people who fought the Emergency with fortitude.' During the broadcast, PM Modi also played excerpts from speeches by former PMs Morarji Desai and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, as well as former Deputy PM Jagjivan Ram, all referencing the Emergency period. Among other examples of empowerment, the he spoke of Bodoland's rise in the realm of sports. The PM also celebrated what he termed a 'remarkable milestone' — the World Health Organization (WHO) declaring India trachoma-free — and praised healthcare workers for their instrumental role. He added, 'The 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' helped in eradicating it. The 'Jal Jeevan Mission' also contributed a lot to this success. Today, when clean water is reaching every home through taps, the risk of such ailments has reduced.'

Addressing the 123rd episode of his monthly radio address, the Prime Minister highlighted that women labourers from Telangana's Bhadrachalam who used to toil in the fields to eke out their daily livelihood are now making products that reach markets from Hyderabad to London. PM Modi said that those pads were distributed to nearby schools and offices at a very low price. He noted that these women joined a Self-Help Group and received training for the same. 'The mantra of 'Women Led Development' is ready to create a new future for India. Our mothers, sisters, and daughters are today lending a new direction not only for themselves but for the entire society. They used to work hard all day for their livelihoods,' PM Modi said during the Mann ki Baat programme. They produce over 3,000 rotis daily through a cooperative, which are now not limited to villages but are sold in Bengaluru and via online food platforms, he said. 'The achievement of the women of Kalaburgi in Karnataka is also excellent. They have made jowar roti a brand. In the cooperative that they have formed, more than 3000 rotis are being made every day. The aroma of these rotis is no longer limited to the village. A special counter has been opened in Bengaluru. Orders are coming in over online food platforms. Kalaburgi roti is now reaching the kitchens of big cities. This has had a great impact on these women; their income is increasing,' PM Modi said. The Prime Minister also mentioned a story of 'self-confidence' and 'self-reliance' from Madhya Pradesh's Balaghat. Suma Uike, who has received training in mushroom farming and animal husbandry, joined the Self Help Group and has increased her income and also expanded her work. 'These stories from different states have different faces. But their glow is the same. This is the glow of self-confidence, of self-reliance. One such face is Suma Uike from Madhya Pradesh. Suma Ji's efforts are very commendable. She took training in mushroom farming and animal husbandry by joining the Self Help Group in Katangi block of Balaghat district. Thus, she found her path to self-reliance. When Suma Uike's income increased, she also expanded her work. This journey that started with a tiny effort has now expanded to 'Didi Canteen' and 'Thermal Therapy Centre'. In every corner of the country, countless such women are changing their fate and that of the country,' PM Modi said. (ANI)

‘95 crore covered under social security': Modi cites ILO data in MKB

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said over 95 crore Indians were now covered under at least one social security scheme, citing a recent report by the International Labour Organisation (ILO). Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Quoting ILO's findings, Modi said 64% of India's population received at least one form of social protection benefit. This marks a significant increase from less than 25 crore beneficiaries in 2015. 'This is not just a number. It reflects a significant transformation in how India supports its citizens,' the PM said during the 123rd episode of his radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat'. He added that India now ranked second globally in terms of social security coverage. ILO data is based on Phase 1 of a national data consolidation drive, which covers central schemes and programmes implemented in eight states — Rajasthan, Maharashtra, MP, TN, Odisha, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Assam. Modi said Phase-2 was already under way and would bring data from the remaining states and more sectors, potentially taking the total number of beneficiaries past 100 crore. Modi said schemes like Ayushman Bharat, Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana and e-Shram portal have been key in extending social protection to a wider population, particularly the poor, elderly and unorganised workers. He said these schemes have ensured access to food, healthcare, income support and insurance for crores of families. He added that this growing social protection coverage would also help India in signing bilateral social security agreements with developed countries, enabling portability of benefits for Indian workers employed overseas. Modi also referred to a WHO report that declared India free from trachoma, an infectious eye disease that can lead to blindness. The PM said these recognitions by international organisations reflected the success of India's inclusive development approach and commitment to improving the quality of life for all citizens.
