Rukun Tetangga turns 50 with fresh focus on youth, unity and volunteerism, says deputy unity minister
She said this includes introducing the Progressive Rukun Tetangga Area (KRT) concept, which involves community-based economic projects aimed at increasing household income, particularly among young people.
'This year marks the 50th anniversary of RT. What started as a community safety team has now grown to include initiatives such as the Unity Squad and patrol units, among others.
'Therefore, we are encouraging more young people to join RT so they can play an active role within their communities,' she told reporters after officiating the Terengganu-level Unity Week celebration at Arena Square here today.
Also present was state Welfare, Women's Development, Family and National Unity Committee chairman Maliaman Kassim.
Saraswathy said there are currently 8,565 KRT nationwide, including more than 500 in Terengganu, serving as the backbone of the government's efforts to foster community unity.
She said this reflects the growing spirit of volunteerism and consensus among Malaysians.
'RTs also play an important role in addressing issues or tensions within communities, including incidents that go viral on social media. They consistently work together with authorities such as the Royal Malaysia Police to help defuse such situations,' she said. — Bernama

'There are no two ways about this: it is incumbent on leaders of the world to speak with greater moral clarity on this issue, and to act with firmer resolve to end this mayhem and killing. 'Yes, we see the flickers of hope emanating from the recent efforts and actions of students and faculty members in colleges and universities as well as civil society organisations around the world. In their condemnation of the genocide, and their calling for an end to this brutal violence, we find hope and comfort but we need more. 'In this vein, we need to continue to call for global solidarity, advocacy, and the relentless pursuit of justice,' he said. — Bernama

Macron said such deals highlighted the importance of trade between France and Asia, as Europe faces up to likely tariffs from US President Donald Trump. 'I am thinking of the projects signed in the key minerals sector, in the rare earths sector with the company Carester, which has just opened up a factory in the region of Lacq, the transport sector with this historic co-operation between Malaysia Airlines and Airbus, and in the energy transition sector,' said Macron. Industry sources told Reuters this week that Airbus was close to winning an order from Malaysia Aviation Group for more A330neo long-haul jets. 'Airbus has been our focus. Malaysian Airlines 20 and AirAsia another 50,' added Anwar.

Turning to the Malaysian Prime Minister, Macron said 'You have had high-level meetings with the Prime Minister (François Bayrou) and other key officials, delivered an important speech at the Sorbonne (university), engaged with civil society leaders, and met with our business community.' He said the rapprochement between the two nations' economies and shared diversification strategies were essential. Macron was referring to the newly signed project in the critical minerals and rare earths sector with the company Carester, which just opened a plant in Lacq; in transport, with the historic cooperation between Malaysia Airlines and Airbus; and also in the field of energy transition.
