Mystery surrounds rare bird seen in Kent the past few weeks: ‘Not from Ohio'
Jason Fabick, owner of Jason's Barber Shop on E. Erie Street, said he stepped outside between haircuts and noticed the unique pigeon with distinctive shimmering green and purple tinted black and white feathers.
'I was just like, wow, that bird is not from Ohio,' Fabick said.
He showed the guys inside his shop and at Belleria Pizza next door, 'and they all came out.'

Everyone was a flutter over their visitor and they named the bird Harvey after a well-liked man in town who recently passed away.
This Harvey seems to also like people and wants to be around them. However, they can tell he is in unfamiliar territory and they're becoming concerned about his wellbeing.
'He is obviously lost,' said Crocker. 'He has a tag on his leg.'
For weeks, they've been contacting animal control agencies, various bird groups and sanctuaries looking for answers.
Some think the bird is a Romanian racing pigeon, but others said it's more likely that it's a 'Hungarian Budapest Whiteflight Highflyer.'
The only thing that is certain, they say, is that it's not from this state or area.
'We called the National Pigeon Association. Yes, there is one, and they said get close enough to read the tag, but there's no number on the tag,' Fabick said.
They believe the bird might be a 'fancier' species and domesticated, unable to fend for itself.
So, they've been feeding Harvey and providing fresh water.

Another big concern is what happens at night. Although there are security cameras in the area, it's busy with college students and loud music which seems to frighten Harvey.
'He just perches up on the windowsill up there in the corner and is just kind of huddled. So I just feel like he's always scared,' Crocker said.
They spoke with FOX 8 to spread the word.
Even though everyone loves Harvey, they're hoping the owner or a sanctuary will come forward to help. They said this very special bird deserves an equally beautiful life.
'So that he's safe,' Brooke said. 'So he has someone who will care for him and love him and have other birds to be around to socialize with.'
'That would be wonderful,' agreed Fabick.

Tuscarawas County man infected with La Crosse virus
UHRICHVILLE, Ohio (WJW) — A Tuscarawas County man is recovering after health officials said he recently contracted the La Crosse virus. The Tuscarawas County Health Department was notified about the confirmed human case on July 17. The La Crosse virus is a viral disease that spreads to humans when bit by infected eastern tree hole mosquitoes, which typically reside in wooded and forested areas. The patient, a 66-year-old Uhrichsville man, was hospitalized after developing viral meningitis from the disease. He has since been released and is recovering at home, the health department said. Malcolm-Jamal Warner, 'Cosby Show' star, dies at 54 This is Tuscarawas County's first confirmed human case since 2021, but according to health officials, Ohio reports an average of 20 cases per year. 'La Crosse virus is rare in Ohio, and we don't want anyone to panic,' said Tuscarawas County Health Commissioner Katie Seward. 'We are simply asking Uhrichsville area residents to be careful and talk with their medical providers about any health concerns.' According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, most people infected with La Crosse don't have any symptoms, but people who do may experience fever, headaches, nausea, vomiting and lethargy. Severe cases typically occur in kids under 16 years old, including symptoms like seizures, coma, paralysis and other neurological issues. The infection is deadly in less than 1% of cases, health officials said. There are no vaccines for La Crosse, health officials said, so the best way to combat the virus is to prevent mosquito bites. In response to the confirmed case, the Tuscarawas County Health Department will be spraying for mosquitoes in Uhrichsville from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Monday, weather permitting. [WATCH: In the video player above, swimming safety tips.] (WJW) — Researchers report that a newly tagged white shark has 'pinged' close to the Canadian shoreline. According to the non-profit OCEARCH, a ping is reported whenever an animal's tag breaks the surface of the water. Couple left baby in car to drink at bar: Police Late Sunday night, 'Jason' pinged inside Georges Bay, Nova Scotia. The more than 500 lbs. shark was tagged just four days prior in Mahone Bay. OCEARCH said efforts to track Jason is part of a larger study on white sharks during their summer/fall residency period in Atlantic Canada. 4-year-old bit by mountain lion in national park 'Atlantic Canada and Newfoundland are important parts of the white shark's range, making them essential areas for managing the western North Atlantic population. Additional tagging efforts—including satellite-linked and acoustic tags—will aid scientists and policymakers in understanding white shark abundance in the region, their distribution and critical habitats, and how their presence has changed over time,' reads the OCEARCH website.
