MACC, AKPS, and KLIA IPD strengthen security control ahead of ASEAN-PAC meeting in October
It said the conference will gather heads of anti-corruption agencies from ASEAN countries and representatives of international organisations, and will serve as an important platform to strengthen regional strategic networks in fighting corruption.
'Among the main agenda of the conference will be the presentation and ratification of the ASEAN-PAC Action Plan 2026–2029, as a continuation of the previous plan for 2023-2025. This action plan will serve as the main reference document in strengthening the joint direction towards regional integrity and transparency,' according to the statement.
Additionally, the MACC said several programmes on the sidelines of the meeting are also planned, and these include interactive dialogue sessions and capacity development workshops targeting enforcement officers from ASEAN member countries.
'The ASEAN-PAC commitment is also in line with the provisions of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), thereby strengthening the efforts of ASEAN countries in formulating stricter and more effective policies and laws against corruption,' said the statement.
The MACC Security Division made a strategic courtesy visit to AKPS and the KLIA IPD on June 11 as an initial step to strengthen security cooperation for the ASEAN-PAC event.
Among the main topics discussed were the coordination of security controls for the arrival and movement of delegates, standard operating procedures (SOP) at KLIA, and comprehensive security measures during the conference.

AKPS detains two officers for 'Flying Passport' activity at CIQ Complex
JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has detained two enforcement officers at the Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) over suspected involvement in the notorious "Flying Passport" activity. The agency's BSI CIQ commander Roszita Dim said the male suspects are aged 31 and 49 and were detained on Friday (July 25) following a covert surveillance operation by the AKPS compliance unit that began at 3pm on the same day. "Our operation targeted the team on duty at the CIQ complex, where suspicious activity was first detected around 7.30pm at the vehicle zone counter at the entry checkpoint. "Investigators observed several questionable entries of visitor data using an officer's login credentials at the counter, including data linked to foreign nationals flagged as problematic visitors. "These entries triggered manual data correction actions by one of the suspects," she said at a press conference held within BSI CIQ on Saturday (July 26). Roszita added that at around 9pm, another instance of suspicious data clearance involving a problematic visitor was detected, this time using a supervisor's user ID stationed in the motorcycle zone. "A search at the vehicle zone counter uncovered RM2,800 in cash and two mobile phones in one of the suspect's possession. "The investigation then led to a concealed stash of 14 foreign passports, with 11 belonging to Chinese nationals and three to Indonesian nationals, hidden inside a black bag above the ceiling at another counter," she said. Further inspection at the motorcycle zone revealed two additional mobile phones belonging to the other suspect, which were seized for further examination. Both suspects were detained on the spot and handed over to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Johor at 10am on Saturday (July 26) for further action. "Investigation against the two suspects is ongoing, including whether there is a syndicate behind this. We have reported the case to the agency's integrity unit head at AKPS headquarters in Putrajaya," she added. Roszita said AKPS is committed to upholding integrity and rooting out misconduct, particularly corruption, among enforcement officers and department personnel at the country's border entry points.

Malaysia continues efforts to mediate Thailand-Cambodia conflict, says Anwar

Indonesia backs peaceful resolution in Thai-Cambodian border dispute
JAKARTA: Indonesia is closely monitoring the escalating border tensions between Cambodia and Thailand, expressing confidence that both Asean member states would resolve the dispute peacefully in accordance with international law. 'We are confident that the two neighbouring countries will immediately return to peaceful means to settle their differences in line with the principles enshrined in the Asean Charter and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation,' the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday (July 25). The ministry also confirmed that it is monitoring the safety and well-being of Indonesian nationals residing in the affected areas. Cambodia on Friday called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire following an escalation in violence along its border with Thailand. "Cambodia asked for an immediate ceasefire - unconditionally - and we also call for the peaceful solution of the dispute," Cambodia's ambassador to the UN, Chhea Keo, said following a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York. The renewed clashes between Thai and Cambodian troops in their second day forced hundreds of thousands of civilians to evacuate from the border area, as both sides continue to exchange heavy artillery fire despite mounting international calls for de-escalation. According to Reuters, at least 16 people, most of them Thai civilians, have been killed since Thursday in what has been dubbed the fiercest military confrontation between the two neighbours in a decade. Fighting has been reported at no fewer than 12 locations along the 817-kilometer border, involving the use of heavy weaponry. On Friday, the Thai military reported clashes at the Ubon Ratchatani and Surin provinces, saying that Cambodia had conducted a sustained bombardment on the area using Russian-made BM-21 rocket systems. 'Even though there is currently fighting between the Cambodian and Thai armies at the border, I appeal to all Cambodian citizens to maintain their morality and dignity,' he said, according to a Cambodian official statement. The fresh clashes erupted on Thursday morning, around 360 km east of Bangkok, with both sides accusing each other of sparking the escalation. Thailand and Cambodia have long-standing, overlapping territorial claims at multiple undemarcated sections of their shared border, particularly in the so-called Emerald Triangle that is home to several ancient temples.
