Kelsey Mitchell is fifth in scoring, and Fever guard makes third straight All-Star team
The Indiana Fever guard was named an All-Star on Sunday afternoon, marking the third straight season she has earned a spot in the WNBA All-Star Game. Mitchell is leading the Fever with 19.3 points per game, along with 1.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists this season. Her scoring average is fifth in the league.
And she won't have to travel far. The All-Star Game, set for July 19, is in Indianapolis for the first time in league history.
Mitchell finished fifth among guards in fan, media, and player voting, just barely missing the cut as an All-Star starter. She was third in fan rank, which is 50% of the vote, then 11th in media voting and sixth in player voting, which each accounted for 25% of the vote.
She was selected to the All-Star Game by the league's 13 coaches, who select the All-Star reserves.
Mitchell will be the third Fever representative on the 22-player All-Star roster, joining Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston, who are starters. Clark is an All-Star captain, and she will draft her team alongside Lynx forward Napheesa Collier, the other captain, on July 8 at 7 p.m. on ESPN
Clark said last week that she hopes to draft her Fever teammates in the All-Star draft. Now, she'll have two picks decided.
'Obviously, I'm going to try to get my teammates on my team. Why wouldn't I?' Clark said. 'That's the goal, and once they come out with whoever has made it — I don't really know how it works — but my first goal would be to have my teammates on my team.'

Short-handed Dodgers may be forced to make roster moves after Astros sweep
Associated Press LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts could do little to counteract Houston Astros left-handers Bennett Sousa and Bryan King in the seventh and eighth innings of Sunday's 5-1 loss. Three of Roberts' four right-handed hitting reserves — Teoscar Hernandez, Kike Hernandez and switch-hitter Tommy Edman — were unavailable because of minor injuries, which could force the Dodgers to make a roster move to bolster their bench depth before Monday night's series opener at Milwaukee. That forced left fielder Michael Conforto, second baseman Hyeseong Kim and catcher Dalton Rushing, all lefties, to bat against Sousa and King, who threw scoreless innings to help the Astros sweep a three-game series in Dodger Stadium for the first time since 2008. 'Today, we had one player available, and that was the catcher,' Roberts said, referring to All-Star starter Will Smith, who is healthy but was given the day off. 'That's not a good feeling.' Padres right-hander Yu Darvish set to make his season debut Monday night against Arizona
Associated Press SAN DIEGO (AP) — San Diego Padres right-hander Yu Darvish will be activated from the injured list and make his season debut Monday night at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Japanese star has been sidelined since spring training by right elbow inflammation. 'It really just comes down from a physical standpoint,' manager Mike Shildt said before the Padres finished a series against Texas on Sunday night. 'We always have an open day on the schedule for Yu Darvish to start.' Making a start Monday night will allow Darvish to make another start before the All-Star break. Darvish, who turns 39 on Aug. 16, threw a bullpen session Saturday after throwing two simulated games against minor leaguers in the last two weeks. Darvish missed significant time in 2024 with an elbow injury and a personal issue. He made five starts in September and finished the regular season with a 7-3 record and a 3.31 ERA. He pitched well in two starts against the Los Angeles Dodgers in a National League Division Series, earning the win Game 2 and taking the loss in Game 5.
