Al Buraimi Oasis project 72% complete

Held at the Al Salam Grand Resort in Al Buraimi, the event was attended by several officials and media representatives. It featured a visual presentation about the governorate, followed by a speech by Sayyid Dr Hamad bin Ahmed al Busaidy, Governor of Al Buraimi, who highlighted key indicators for 2024 and the governorate's initiatives.
These included the 'Plant Your Home" initiative, the 'Community Partnership" initiative to monitor progress in developmental projects and the collaboration between the Governor's Office and the University of Al Buraimi to organise the 'Job Opportunities Forum" for employment.
The event also addressed major achievements and projects, such as the economic zone in Al Rawdah and the Hafeet Rail Network project. Additionally, future plans were discussed, including Al Buraimi Oasis — Downtown Hub project, which is 72 per cent complete. The project features shaded seating areas, pedestrian walkways, green spaces and a reflective pool in front of Al Hila Fort, serving as an iconic aesthetic element. Another project highlighted was the artificial lake, which includes six chalets, a children's play island and a café, with 57 per cent of its construction completed.
Eng Moosa Said al Abri, Director General of Al Buraimi Municipality, provided a detailed presentation on key ongoing projects, reviewing progress rates for several infrastructure developments. These include the design and construction of 100 km of internal roads (Phase 2) across the governorate's wilayats and the maintenance of roads affected by recent weather conditions, with remaining work under way.
He noted that asphalt road maintenance has been assigned to a company for five years. Other projects discussed were urban beautification initiatives and the automated shading system in the Central Market, which is 100 per cent complete. This project supports small and medium enterprise vendors by providing a comfortable work environment that protects them from weather conditions and enhances their commercial activity.
On her turn, Ruqaya bint Rashid al Yahyaeiyah, Director of Planning and Investment at the Governor's Office, highlighted Al Buraimi's key advantages and achievements across various sectors. These include the logistics sector, where the dualisation of Al Buraimi-Mahadha road is under way, with the final concept and design approved and tendering expected soon. She also discussed major investment opportunities in food security, valued at approximately RO 34 million and urban planning.
She added that 30 developmental and investment opportunities were presented through the 'Tatweer" platform, targeting 83 beneficiaries in 2025. Additionally, an agreement was signed to develop the Integrated Residential Neighbourhood (Hayy Al Salam) project, a modern housing option that will be provided in accordance with approved regulations to meet growing housing demand and enhance quality of life.
The meeting included a dialogue session where media inquiries were addressed and various topics related to developmental and service-related affairs in the governorate were discussed. — ONA

New strategic plan to shape Dakhliyah's growth
Nizwa – Dakhliyah has launched its strategic development plan for 2026-2030 as part of ongoing efforts to promote decentralisation and enhance institutional planning. The plan aligns with Oman Vision 2040, the National Urban Development Strategy and the sultanate's five-year development framework. A cooperation agreement was signed on Wednesday between the Governorate of Dakhliyah and Oman Think Urban, a planning and development centre, to implement the strategy under the corporate name 'Afaq'. Intended to enhance public engagement and decentralised governance, it will be developed based on analytical and field studies. Sheikh Hilal bin Saeed al Hajri, Governor of Dakhliyah, said the agreement represents a step towards realistic and measurable planning approaches, aimed at delivering results that benefit all wilayats in the governorate. He stressed the importance of involving both local communities and government entities in every phase of the plan. It seeks to tap into the governorate's resources and strengths, enabling local authorities, citizens and private businesses to contribute to decision-making and development. Khaled bin Adim al Salmi, Director of Planning and Investment Department in the governorate, described the plan as a practical reflection of national policies promoting decentralised and balanced development. He added that community and private sector participation would be central to prioritising and allocating resources effectively. Prof Mahmoud bin Humaid al Wahaibi, CEO of Oman Think Urban, said the plan would adopt a participatory model supported by scientific methodologies and measurable indicators. The approach aims to produce sustainable outcomes and address future development challenges. The 'Afaq' project will also involve local capacity building and training programmes to boost institutional and community participation. A workshop was held during the launch with participation of governorate staff and representatives of public agencies. The session was a platform to discuss the overall direction of the plan and ensure it reflects the governorate's development needs. According to the Governor's Office, the plan will support key sectors including tourism, industry, education, innovation and infrastructure development.

Al Dakhiliyah awards tenders worth over RO 3m
NIZWA: The Internal Tenders Committee at the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate Governor's Office, during its recent meeting, approved the awarding of several tenders related to municipal development projects, with a total cost exceeding RO 3 million. This move is part of the governorate's continuous efforts to enhance infrastructure and improve the efficiency of municipal services across its various wilayats. The approved projects include the implementation of the first phase of the Jabal Shams tourist waterfront development project in the Wilayat of Al Hamra. This initiative is considered a qualitative step aimed at strengthening the tourism infrastructure in one of Oman's most prominent natural destinations. Additionally, the committee approved the project for designing and implementing internal roads in Al Qabidhiya area of the Wilayat of Bahla, with the goal of improving the internal road network and facilitating movement within residential areas. Governorates work on aligning urban strategies with Vision 2040
Haima – Authorities in Al Wusta and Dhahirah have launched a series of planning workshops aimed at advancing local development strategies and aligning these with Oman Vision 2040 and national development plans. In Haima, a workshop was held on Monday to assess progress of the urban strategy for Al Wusta. The session was organised jointly by the Governor's Office and Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning. It focused on monitoring implementation of strategic goals, project classification and data management. Participants agreed on a joint working mechanism between the Governor's Office and Directorate of Housing to coordinate development efforts. The workshop also addressed key challenges in data updates and reviewed possible solutions. Officials stressed the need for effective communication among relevant bodies to ensure integration across sectors. The workshop was attended by Sheikh Mohammed Ali al Ghafaili, Wali of Haima, and several local officials. In Ibri, a workshop was held on Sunday themed 'Defining the Strategic Goal of Dhahirah'. It brought together representatives of government bodies, the private sector and local community. Discussions centred on the governorate's strategic vision, drawing on its comparative advantages to guide future planning. The workshop was part of the first phase of the Dhahirah Strategy Development Project, which seeks to position the governorate as a gateway linking Oman with neighbouring countries. The project follows a participatory approach and aims to develop an inclusive roadmap with clear implementation steps. Both workshops reflect the sultanate's broader decentralisation efforts and the growing role of governorates in shaping local development agendas.
