Dakota, who also is a surfer, was struck on the side of the Oahu's Kamehameha Highway and hospitalized with 'multiple fractures in his legs, pelvis, ribs, and skull,' according to a GoFundMe page set up on his behalf.

Dakota's brother Ryder shared a picture of the surfer in a hospital bed to his Instagram Story on Monday.

'Please continue to pray for our Dakota, he's in really rough shape and needs a miracle from god,' Ryder wrote before detailing his brother's horrific injuries.

'His ribs have been crushed, his spine is severed and broken in multiple places, the back of his skull has been crushed, fractured in over eight places, from the hip down his legs have been crushed. He needs a miracle, please pray for God to make him whole again.'

As of Wednesday afternoon, the GoFundMe had raised more than $163,000 US, blowing past its original goal of $50,000.

'(Dakota's) incredible medical team were able to stabilize his legs and are now working tirelessly on multiple surgeries to the rest of his body,' the note on the GoFundMe page reads.

Briley rose to fame in the 1990s and is widely regarded as one of the greatest Pipeline surfers, winning the Tavarua Tube Classic in 1995.

2 dead after possible drowning northeast of Peterborough: OPP
Two men in their 20s are dead after a possible drowning just northeast of Peterborough, Ont., on Sunday, provincial police say. Peterborough police responded to a call just before 5 p.m. that two people had gone missing in the water at Burleigh Falls in Stony Lake, about 30 kilometres from Peterborough, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said in a news release on Monday. The two people had been reportedly swimming in the area when one fell from the shoreline and appeared to be in distress, police said. Others in the area went into the water to help, but that resulted in a second person going missing. Peterborough police and fire rescue crews searched the water and surrounding area Sunday, but did not find the two missing persons, the OPP said. On Monday, the OPP's underwater search and recovery unit located and recovered their bodies. A Caledon man, 24, and Brampton man, 26, were pronounced dead, police said. Police did not provide more information about the victims in the release.
