ASEAN Main Logistics Secretariat Sets Sights On Raising The Bar For October's Summit
Head of the Secretariat Raja Saifful Ridzuwan Raja Kamaruddin said the team would use a comprehensive post-event evaluation of the recently concluded summit and related meetings, held from May 22 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here, as a blueprint to refine future preparations.
'Honestly, I am very satisfied because everything we planned over the past five months has fully materialised.
'But the real challenge lies ahead in October. We've already tested our capabilities and coordination with various agencies. Now, our focus is on identifying our weaknesses and improving them,' he said when featured on Bernama TV's special programme on ASEAN Summit 2025 tonight.
One of the key hurdles, Raja Saifful noted, was presenting Malaysia's identity as a multiracial, peaceful, and tolerant nation, grounded in the MADANI principles - a national development philosophy championed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim - to the broader ASEAN community.
'We wanted to carry the Prime Minister's aspirations onto the ASEAN stage, including through the (ASEAN 2025) logo. That's why we featured blue, red, and yellow - the colours that not only represent ASEAN, but also Malaysia,' he explained.
Raja Saifful also underscored ASEAN's central role in Malaysia's foreign policy, particularly in terms of contributing to regional economic growth and stability through a wide range of collaborative initiatives.
The ASEAN Summit, which drew leaders and high-level delegations from ASEAN and partner countries, was held under Malaysia's 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship theme 'Inclusivity and Sustainability'.
This year marks Malaysia's fifth term as ASEAN Chair, following previous chairmanships in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015.

Govt To Continue LPG Subsidy, Says Armizan
KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 (Bernama) -- The government remains committed to continuing the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) subsidy, including for domestic use as well as for micro and small businesses in the food and beverage (F&B) sector. As such, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali dismissed claims by certain quarters that the government plans to abolish the subsidy, describing them as inaccurate and misleading. 'The mandate given to the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) is to address leakages in the form of misappropriation and smuggling, and not to withdraw, reduce or abolish the LPG subsidy,' he said during the question and answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today. He was responding to a question from Young Syefura Othman (PH-Bentong), who asked whether the government would continue providing LPG subsidies amid claims that the subsidy would be discontinued. Armizan said that although the LPG subsidy is primarily intended for consumer use, the government also considers the needs of micro and small-scale F&B businesses that provide food services to the public. 'The government remains open to allowing these businesses to continue benefiting from the subsidy. 'However, if the aim is to offer affordable prices, then the food and beverages sold must also be reasonably priced and not at premium rates,' he said. Armizan said the government's commitment will be demonstrated through the formal recognition of eligible micro and small business premises via amendments to the Control of Supplies Regulations (PKKB) 2021, which will provide greater legal clarity. 'As we introduce control mechanisms, we will also ensure that the LPG cylinder subsidy continues to benefit not only households, but also micro and small traders,' he added.

Johari Calls For Agency Streamlining, Mandatory Registration Of Plastic Recyclers Under MITI
KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 (Bernama) -- Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani today urged a streamlined approach among agencies managing plastic waste and proposed mandatory registration of all plastic recycling companies under the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) to boost oversight and enforcement. Johari, who is also the Acting Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, said the current system involves fragmented jurisdiction across several agencies, including the Department of Environment, Solid Waste Management Department, MITI and the Customs Department. 'To be effective, these four agencies must come together. I've submitted this proposal to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability,' he said during a parliamentary session today. He was responding to Datuk Seri Ibrahim Man (PN–Kubang Kerian), who asked about improving enforcement at plastic recycling plants, some of which are linked to the illegal import of waste. Johari emphasised the importance of thoroughly inspecting all plastic waste containers entering the country and called for stricter monitoring at processing facilities to trace waste back to licensed operators. 'If a container arrives with false declarations, Customs may not catch it immediately. But by monitoring every company processing this waste, we can track which factories receive it and verify their licensing status,' he said. He also raised concerns that only 10 to 20 per cent of imported plastic waste is processed, with the bulk ending up in Malaysian landfills. 'We bear the high cost of landfill management while the exporting countries pay nothing,' he said. To address these challenges, Johari proposed making it mandatory for these companies to register under MITI, ensuring greater transparency through annual license renewals that require audited financial statements detailing sales, exports and market destinations.
