Russia-Ukraine war: Barely a month after the Israel-Iran war raised fears of a global, another major conflict threatens to trigger World War 3 as reports in the Russian state media claim that NATO countries led by the United States are allegedly preparing to launch a large scale nuclear attack on Russia. What do the reports say?
Russia media reports, citing experts and analysts close to the Kremlin, claim that NATO is preparing for a major conflict with Russia, amid heightened tensions between Moscow and the US-led Western powers due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Experts believe that such a conflict could potentially trigger World War 3 as Russia's allies like China would step in military, resulting in a global conflict.
Its believed these reports are designed to prepare the Russian citizens for a major war with NATO, including a nuclear conflict. Why Russia-Ukraine war could trigger World War 3?
Reports circulating in government-affiliated news outlets, including Russia's Komsomolskaya Pravda (KP), have warned of an impending nuclear war with NATO, claiming that the West, including the US, Britain, and their European allies, could launch a large-scale war on Russia by the end of the current decade.
Russian experts believe that war is part of larger strategy to balkanize Russia, which would inevitably trigger a third world war as Moscow's allies would join the battle.
Notably, General Christopher Donahue, commanding general of the US Army Europe and Africa, has publicly talked about attacking Russia's Kaliningrad region, which is surrounded by NATO countries, and stands isolated from the rest of Russia. Moscow issued a stern response, stating that it would take any and all measures to to protect Kaliningrad, including deploying nuclear weapons. Where would the attack be launched from?
According to Russian experts, NATO could use Finland, which recently joined the alliance, as a launchpad for attacking Russia, even as Moscow's SVR intelligence service has accused the US-led military grouping of converting Moldova into into a military base, which could lead to a direct confrontation between NATO and Russian forces in Eastern Europe.
Russian Military commentator Zimovsky warned that any attack on St. Petersburg or Kaliningrad would lead to a wider war, while former President Dmitry Medvedev asserted that a World War 3 situation has already arisen due to the US and Europe meddling in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Kang becomes 1st in AAP to voice concern over Punjab's contentious land pooling policy

Chandigarh: Amid massive opposition to AAP govt's controversial land pooling policy in Punjab, AAP MP Malvinder Singh Kang on Sunday advised his party's supremo, Arvind Kejriwal, and Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann to hear "objections raised by farmer unions on the policy". In a post on X on Sunday evening, Kang, who is the first AAP leader to publicly voice his concerns regarding the controversial policy, said, "Govt should move forward only after taking farmers and our farmer unions into confidence through dialogue." He called on the state govt to listen to the farmers with empathy and address their issues through meaningful dialogue. "My suggestion to @ArvindKejriwal ji and @BhagwantMann ji is that our govt has done a lot for the betterment of farmers in the last three years, such as ensuring uninterrupted power supply for agriculture, aiming to deliver canal water to every field, expediting mandi reforms, and promoting crop diversification, among other efforts. On this policy too, govt should move forward only after taking farmers and our farmer unions into confidence through dialogue," he said. Kang, who put out the post in both Punjabi and English, said, "On this too, trust must be earned – not assumed – before any policy takes root." The AAP govt in Punjab, led by Mann, has been facing criticism from opposition parties, farm unions, and farmers ever since it proposed the land pooling policy. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Treatment That Might Help You Against Knee Pain Knee pain | search ads Find Now Undo Under the policy, state govt plans to acquire more than 40,000 acres of land across the state for housing and industrial projects, promising residential and commercial plots of varied dimensions, depending on the contribution of land parcels by them, for the contributing landowners in the developed projects. All three main opposition parties in Punjab, the Congress, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), and the BJP, have been opposing the scheme, calling it a "land grabbing" scheme. Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar even termed it a "Ponzi scheme," even as the ruling AAP claimed it to be aimed at planned urbanisation in the state. Facing criticism over the policy, the AAP-led govt, after a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, approved a number of amendments to the policy. These amendments included annual compensation to the landowners, extending residential and commercial plot allotments to farmers with smaller landholdings, and issuing letters offering residential and commercial plots in a time-bound manner. The amendments aimed to allay the concerns of the farmers. However, criticism of the policy continued, with Kisan Mazdoor Morcha announcing protests against the policy on Wednesday. Opposing the policy, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) also demanded its rollback. |

Opposition to Punjab's land-pooling policy brings together farmers

Opposition to Punjab's land-pooling policy brings together farmers BATHINDA: Resistance to AAP-led Punjab government's land-pooling policy is acting as the glue to bring together fractured farm organisations and individual farmers beyond political affiliation, reports Neel Kamal. It appears to be rekindling farm struggles that seemed to be losing momentum - seeing that there was not much hue and cry after Punjab Police slammed shut the protests at Shambhu and Khanauri borders with Haryana. The Bhagwant Mann government has been trying to convince people that land-pooling scheme was beneficial to farmers but it hasn't been able to dispel farmers' apprehension of losing land. Individual farmers from villages where land is being 'pooled' - those so far not associated with farm organisations - are now turning towards them to oppose the scheme. The policy aims to pool over 40,000 acres of farmland to promote planned urban development. It's a land-for-land scheme, where landowners voluntarily give up land and are given developed residential and commercial plots in exchange. SKM's green light to its Punjab chapter to hold tractor rallies on July 30 in villages that are likely to be brought under land-pooling scheme has come as a boost to forces opposing the scheme. The national committee of KMM has also backed the SKM call, further emboldening resistance.

Iran executes 2 opposition members over alleged attacks on civilian sites

Iran said Sunday it has executed two members of the exiled opposition group Mujahedeen-e-Khalq after convicting them of carrying out attacks on public and civilian infrastructure. Iranian courts charged the two men with several offenses, including waging war against the state.(Representational Photo) The judiciary's official news website, Mizan Online, reported that Behrouz Ehsani Eslamlou and Mehdi Hasani were hanged on Sunday morning after being found guilty of using improvised mortar launchers to target residential areas, educational institutions and government buildings. In January, rights group Amnesty International had issued an appeal for Eslamlou and Hasani, saying the two had been interrogated without the presence of lawyers and had been subjected "to torture and other ill-treatment, including beatings and prolonged solitary confinement, to extract self-incriminating statements.' The Mojahedin Organization of Iran, also known as the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran, issued a statement decrying the executions and said both men had been 'subjected to savage torture.' Calling for international condemnation of the executions, the group said another 14 people have been sentenced to death in Iran for alleged membership in the organization 'and are at imminent risk of execution.' Iranian courts charged the two men with several offenses, including waging war against the state, conspiracy, sabotage and membership in a terrorist organization. Prosecutors accused them of plotting to destabilize national security and damage public property. The Mujahedeen-e-Khalq, once a Marxist-Islamist group that opposed Iran's monarchy, backed the 1979 Islamic Revolution but later broke with Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini's government. It carried out a series of deadly bombings and assassinations in the 1980s and supported Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq war — stances that still provoke widespread resentment within Iran. The group is now largely based in Albania but claims to operate a clandestine network inside Iran. The last known execution of Mujahedeen-e-Khalq members took place in 2009, following their conviction in connection with an attempted bombing in Tehran's central Enghelab Square.
