He said Malaysia, as a friendly nation, is proud to play a role in resolving the conflict between the two neighbouring countries, helping to ensure regional peace and stability. 'When Cambodia and Thailand were in conflict, Malaysia successfully negotiated peace terms. 'Both sides placed their trust in us and agreed to hold talks in Kuala Lumpur,' he said. Anwar added that Cambodian Defence Minister Gen Tea Seiha and Thai acting Defence Minister Gen Natthaphon Narkphanit are expected to arrive in Kuala Lumpur today to engage in detailed discussions aimed at further easing tensions. Anwar said Malaysia's role in the peace negotiations has elevated its standing on the global stage, attracting the attention of world leaders, including those from Germany, France and other Asian nations. 'US President Donald J. Trump personally called at 6.50am to congratulate us on our success in brokering peace between the two countries. 'Indonesia also reached out with similar praise,' he said during the closing ceremony of the National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen's Day here yesterday. On July 28, Thailand and Cambodia agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire following a special meeting in Putrajaya chaired by Anwar, in Malaysia's capacity as current Asean Chair. The meeting also saw both parties agreeing to hold a General Border Committee meeting as part of the ceasefire implementation. On another matter, Anwar said Malaysia is not surrendering anything by choosing to engage in amicable discussions with Indonesia to resolve the Sulawesi Sea maritime dispute. He stressed that such an approach reflects Malaysia's desire to maintain friendly ties with Indonesia. 'Indonesia is a friendly nation, and President Prabowo Subianto is a personal family friend,' Anwar said, adding that discussions must be held in accordance with the law. He emphasised the importance of involving Sabah and Sarawak in any deliberations, stating that any decision must first obtain the approval of the respective state governments and legislative assemblies. 'This is our country. We fight and spend hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions, just to protect Sabah's rights,' he said, referring to the defunct Sulu sultanate's claims over the state. On the potential undersea project collaboration between PETRONAS and Indonesian oil and gas corporation Pertamina, Anwar clarified that it has yet to be finalised. He noted that both countries must continue discussions on working terms, especially in areas involving land and sea resource development that require clear coordination. As an example, he pointed out that while oil extracted from land belongs to Sabah, underwater resources may fall within Indonesian maritime boundaries, among other states and nations. 'This is what we are working on together, and it all depends on ongoing negotiations,' he said. Anwar and Prabowo recently issued a joint statement pledging to explore a proposed joint development in the Sulawesi Sea, including the Ambalat block, in a peaceful and mutually beneficial manner. The Ambalat block, located off the coast of Sabah and spanning some 15,000 sq km, is believed to contain substantial crude oil reserves. Separately, Anwar said national carrier Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is able to purchase new aircraft due to healthy financial performance and sound management. The Prime Minister said the decision to acquire 30 Boeing aircraft also reflected Malaysia's effective trade diplomacy with the United States. 'For the first time last year, MAS recorded a profit because we did not 'sakau' (steal),' he quipped. He credited the economic recovery to political stability and strategic ties with countries such as the United States. Anwar noted that many agreements have been reached for Malaysia's economic benefit, including the aircraft deal, which he said was finalised about four or five months ago.

MAIPs honours Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra's 25 years of leadership
KANGAR: Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail has marked 25 years of leadership as the Raja Muda of Perlis, making significant contributions to the development of religion, social welfare, and the economy of the ummah. In a statement issued today, the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) highlighted His Royal Highness' notable achievements, including his humanitarian missions, educational collaborations, and efforts to promote religious diplomacy. "His work has had a lasting impact, particularly in strengthening the zakat and waqf management systems and enhancing the role of mosques as community hubs. "Under His Royal Highness' leadership, MAIPs has emerged as a progressive and authoritative religious institution. His leadership is a symbol of a monarchy that is close to the people and visionary in developing Perlis," read the statement. Most recently, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra led MAIPs' humanitarian missions to Kenya and Rwanda, forging strategic collaborations with international Islamic education institutions. One of his significant projects includes introducing UniSIRAJ (Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin International Islamic University) and promoting the harmonious and humanitarian values of Islam. MAIPs also celebrated Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra's milestone during the Takrim 25 Tahun Pemasyhuran (25th Anniversary of His Royal Highness' Ascension as Perlis Raja Muda) which coincided with the 2026-2030 consultative dialogue on the direction of state's Islamic affairs here on Friday. The anniversary celebration symbolised the highest appreciation for His Royal Highness' leadership over the past two and a half decades. His dedication to guiding the ummah, upholding religion, and serving the people of Perlis was honoured through a special ceremony, which included a trilingual poetry performance titled Ungkap Kata Puji Mahkota – حملة المدحِ. In his speech during the dialogue, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the direction of Islamic affairs in Perlis for the 2026–2030 period. His focus will remain on ensuring Perlis remains a harmonious, knowledgeable, and prosperous state through an integrated and impactful approach. "This Takrim ceremony not only reflects on His Royal Highness' 25-year leadership journey, but also serves as a renewed pledge to continue the struggle for blessings, justice, and the well-being of the ummah," said MAIPs, adding that prayers for His Royal Highness's continued leadership and divine blessings were made. Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra was officially installed as Raja Muda of Perlis on Oct 12, 2000, at the Balairong Seri, Istana Arau, following the proclamation of his father, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, as Raja of Perlis on April 16 of the same year. Since then, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra has carried the responsibility of being the heir to the Perlis throne and the president of MAIPs, advising the Raja of Perlis on Islamic affairs and Malay customs. – Bernama

Govt bent on safeguarding Sabah's rights – Anwar

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2025 National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen's Day here on Sunday, Anwar said the Federal Government will also continue to safeguard the nation's sovereignty against any form of intrusion, whether on land or at sea. He further emphasised that Malaysia is prepared to bring matters concerning Sabah's rights and the country's sovereignty to international court proceedings if necessary. 'Why are we doing this? Because this is our country — Sabah is part of Malaysia. We are spending tens of millions of Ringgit, maybe a hundred million Ringgit, to defend our rights. We will not allow even an inch of our land or sea to be encroached upon. 'Wherever it may be — in the Spanish courts or internationally — we will fight to the maximum to defend Sabah's rights because Sabah is part of Malaysia,' he said. Also present were Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, and his deputy Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup. Anwar said the MADANI Government is committed to driving Sabah's development and resolving demands under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) through various initiatives and allocations, stressing that the relationship between the state and Federal Governments must remain strong. Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said among the resolved matters is the interim special grant for Sabah, which has been increased from RM300 million to RM600 million this year, along with an allocation of RM10 billion to complete the Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah. 'It (Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah) was delayed under the previous government, but we are continuing it under the responsibility of the Federal Government. Maybe it's not visible yet, not completed, but at least we've approved it and the work packages are in progress,' he said. On utilities, Anwar said the Federal Government has given full authority over electricity supply management to the state government, along with continuous subsidies for seven years until 2030 amounting to RM3.54 billion. To address the ongoing water supply issues, the Federal Government has approved an allocation of RM300 million, in addition to handing over projects worth under RM50 million to the state administration.
