Bengaluru airport, Museum of Art & Photography team up to transform Terminal 2 into cultural hub

Time of India07-06-2025
Bengaluru: Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has partnered with the Museum of Art & Photography (MAP) to transform Terminal 2 (T2) into a dynamic cultural destination. The collaboration aims to offer passengers an immersive experience of South Asian art and heritage, seamlessly integrated into their travel journey.
T2, already known for its strong artistic identity with over 210 curated artworks by more than 60 artists, now expands its cultural footprint through a series of interactive digital installations. At the domestic terminal, travellers can access a digital art archive through MAP's Gallery on Demand. It features works by celebrated artists such as Jamini Roy, Jangarh Singh Shyam, Jyoti Bhatt, Suresh Punjabi, and LN Tallur.
The platform also includes compelling narratives built around Bollywood and short films that provide intimate glimpses into the lives of the featured artists.
Interactive puzzles based on iconic artworks like Universe by SH Raza and The Lotus Sellers by NS Bendre make art appreciation playful and engaging, while a digital lamp lighting experience offers travellers a meaningful pause. The Cumulus system allows passengers to explore MAP's digitised collection in detail, enabling search, zoom, and personal curation.
At the international terminal, the partnership is marked by an exhibition titled 'Bhuri Bai: My Life as an Artist', spotlighting the life and works of Padma Shri Bhuri Bai. Commissioned by MAP, the exhibition features autobiographical pieces, early works from the 1980s, and large-scale recent creations, providing a compelling narrative of her journey as a contemporary artist.
Hari Marar, MD and CEO of Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), said: "Our collaboration with MAP aims to transform T2 into a vibrant hub of discovery and engagement.
By bringing art into the passenger journey in such an accessible and interactive way, we hope to offer travellers moments of pause, inspiration, and reflection."
Abhishek Poddar, founder of MAP, added that the partnership underscores the museum's belief in the transformative power of art. "With this unique partnership with BIAL, MAP hopes to take art appreciation and awareness to a wider audience, thereby creating a new wave of interest and engagement in South Asian art and culture," he said.

Bengaluru airport most hit by bird strikes in south India

Bengaluru: Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru has recorded the highest number of birds strikes among airports in south India over the past five-and-a-half years, with a total of 343 incidents. Nationally, Bengaluru ranks third in bird strike cases, after Delhi (695 incidents) and Mumbai (407). Bird strikes, referring to collisions between birds and aircraft, typically occur at low altitudes during take-off and landing, often resulting in damage to aircraft engines or windshields, posing a significant safety concern. According to the union civil aviation ministry, around 2,800 bird strikes were reported across the country between 2020 and June 2025. While the number of incidents dipped during the Covid-19 years (2020 and 2021), they rose steadily as air travel resumed. Bengaluru has recorded an average of 85 bird strike cases annually over the past three years. Although no major accidents due to bird strikes have been reported in Bengaluru, aviation experts link the high frequency of such incidents to increased commercial activity near the airport and a surge in flight operations. Bengaluru is currently the third-busiest airport in India, handling a record 41.9 million passengers in 2024–25. It offers connectivity to 76 domestic and 34 international destinations. To mitigate bird strike risks, Bengaluru airport has implemented a multi-layered wildlife hazard management plan in line with national and international aviation safety protocols. A dedicated team monitors bird and wildlife activity in real time and employs deterrent methods as required. Measures include bird repellents, rodent control, habitat and insect management, biological and chemical control methods, and awareness campaigns focused on waste management around the airport, airport sources said.

Tanishaa Mukerji Defends Saiyaara, Slams ‘Paid' Audience Claim: ‘This Is Bollywood Bashing'

Tanishaa Mukerji reacted to claims that Saiyaara makers paid young people to cry and act emotional in theatres while watching the film. Here's what she said! Saiyaara, starring debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has caused a stir at the box office, and has emerged as a surprise blockbuster. Saiyaara fever has gripped audiences across the country, especially Gen-Z, with emotional reactions flooding social media. Several videos of people crying and shouting inside the theatres while watching Saiyaara went viral on Instagram. Now, a podcast suggesting that these extreme reactions were planned by the filmmakers, caught the attention of actor Tanishaa Mukerji. She strongly responded to claims suggesting that the makers paid people to cry and act emotional in theatres, calling it yet another case of 'Bollywood bashing'. She defended the film, and stated that there is nothing wrong with people reacting to the film this way. In The Asymmetric Crew podcast, Shantanu Deshpande raised questions about the viral frenzy surrounding Mohit Suri's Saiyaara. 'What's happening with this ridiculous Saiyaara movie. The producer of this movie, in my view, has paid ₹500 in dehadi to lots of these Gen-Z young folks to go into these theatres and put on emotional performances of crying… This is how the movie is getting promoted by the way. The whole world has now become a bunch of performers," he said. Kajol's sister Tanishaa Mukerji reacted to the viral reel, and slammed the claims. She defended the film, and wrote, 'Completely disagree. Times are changing and these people are stuck in the past. Love and appreciate the new. And honestly What rubbish is this man saying. Does he know anything for a fact. He is using the phenomenon of Saiyara to get views by talking negatively." She further added, 'If people are reacting to a film what is so wrong about that. Just because he cannot relate doesn't mean the younger generation doesn't either. Every generation is different. This is india. We react. Go watch the film see how the audiences are moved. Then talk. This is just Bollywood bashing ! Brands just have to find new ways to connect to their audiences!" Saiyaara has officially crossed Rs 250 crore net in India and over Rs 300 crore worldwide—making it one of the biggest sleeper hits of 2025. The film, directed by Mohit Suri, released in theatres on July 18. Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive.
