The World Championship of Legends (WCL) organisers were forced to cancel the Sunday India vs Pakistan match after a host of former Indian cricket team players refused to take the field against their bitter rivals and neighbours in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack. Leading the protest from the front was former India opener Shikhar Dhawan, who declared on social media that 'My country is everything for me,' while announcing his decision to withdraw from the match against Pakistan.

The WCL, which is reportedly co-owned by Bollywood stars Ajay Devgn and Harshit Tomar, has now apologised for 'hurting the sentiments' as they announced the cancellation of the India vs Pakistan match, which was to take place on 20 July at Edgbaston in England.
The WCL, in its official statement, said that they only wanted to 'create some happy memories for people' with the upcoming match and felt it was the right decision as the two countries had already resumed sporting ties through other events. They admitted 'unintentionally' causing 'discomfort to our Indian Cricket Legends' and 'affecting the brands who supported' them.
India and Pakistan teams have already competed against each other in tennis and volleyball matches internationally since the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor.

However, it's important to note that the organisers had no wish to cancel the match until Indian players went against the idea. Dhawan was the most vocal as he took to social media to express his disapproval.
'Jo kadam 11 May ko liya, uspe aaj bhi waise hi khada hoon. Mera desh mere liye sab kuch hai, aur desh se badhkar kuch nahi hota (I still stand by the step I took on 11 May. My country is everything for me and nothing is bigger than the nation,' Dhawan wrote on X, along with a screenshot of a letter that announced that he will not take part in matches against Pakistan.

Similarly, India Today and TelecomAsia.net have reported that Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh were not willing to play against Pakistan. As per one of the reports, players were unhappy with Shahid Afridi being part of the Pakistan team.
Former all-rounder Afridi had been a vocal critic of India and after the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed, he had questioned the capabilities of the Indian government and the army.
'Even if a cracker bursts in India, they blame it on Pakistan. You have an 8 lakh-strong army in Kashmir, yet this happened. This means you are useless, not being able to provide security to people,' Afridi had said.

Zareen Khan hilariously claps back at ageist troll saying ‘shaadi kar lo, buddhi ho rahi ho'

Actor Zareen Khan recently took to Instagram to deliver a sharp and humorous comeback to an ageist troll who commented on her post, saying, 'Shaadi kar lo, buddhi ho rahi ho' (Get married, you're getting old). Rather than ignore it, Zareen responded with wit and clarity—calling out the regressive mindset that views marriage as a solution to ageing or life's problems. In a new video, actor Zareen Khan advocated for women's independence and critiqued the notion that marriage guarantees happiness. Zareen Khan claps back at ageist trolls She went on to highlight how marriage is often positioned especially in Indian society as a cure-all for everything. Zareen questioned why, when someone is unproductive or "not doing anything" with their life, families often default to 'Shaadi karwa do' as a solution. 'How is that helpful?' she asked. 'If someone can't take care of themselves, adding another person to the chaos won't fix anything—it might just ruin two lives instead of one.' Zareen also pointed out that women's independence is still seen as threatening in many households. 'If a girl starts becoming too independent or opinionated, families panic and say, 'She's slipping out of our hands.' And again, the solution is: get her married.' Ending her statement with a reality check, she asked, 'Is marriage some kind of magic? From what I see, most marriages today barely last two or three months. So no, marriage is not the answer to every problem.' Zareen Khan's career Zareen Khan, who began her career with the 2010 film Veer opposite Salman Khan, has long faced public scrutiny, including unfair comparisons to Katrina Kaif. Zareen gradually established her own identity with performances in films like Housefull 2, Hate Story 3, and 1921. Apart from Hindi cinema, she has also worked in Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu films. Zareen has often spoken out against body shaming and societal expectations. She was last seen in the 2021 film Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele.

AIFF Breaks Silence On Xavi Hernandez, Pep Guardiola's 'Applications For India Coach'

A day after its top official claimed that World Cup-winning Spanish great Xavi Hernandez was among the applicants for India football coach's position, the All India Football Federation said that the e-mail received in his name was found to be "not genuine" and three others have been short-listed for the job. The AIFF did not reveal the names in the pruned list but it is widely believed that Khalid Jamil, currently the head coach of Indian Super League side Jamshedpur FC, is the front-runner for the post left vacant by Spaniard Manolo Marquez. "The AIFF received an e-mail furnishing the applications from Spanish coaches Pep Guardiola and Xavi Hernandez. The authenticity of their applications could not be confirmed, and it has since emerged that the e-mail applications were not genuine," AIFF stated in a media release. One of its officials, on conditions of anonymity, had stated on Friday that the application of Xavi could not be processed as the AIFF did not have resources to hire his services. The IM Vijayan-headed Technical Committee, it is learnt, has also kept Englishman Stephen Constantine, who has previously coached India, and Slovakia's Stefan Tarkovic in the short-list. Constantine has coached the Indian team in two phases earlier, while Tarkovic is the most decorated among the shortlisted candidates having managed Slovakia during the 2020 Euro Championship, where his team beat a fancied Poland which had Bayern Munich legend Robert Lewandowski in its ranks. "Following comprehensive discussions and a rigorous selection process, 10 candidates were selected for the committee to review, following which, the TC shortlisted three," the release also stated. "Given the immediate needs of the national team, it is advisable to recommend three coaches from the short-listed pool for final consideration," former India skipper Vijayan was quoted as saying in the release. "Other prominent applicants, many of whom are highly qualified international coaches, will be taken into account for long-term strategic roles in the future," he added. National Team Director Subrata Paul, also a former India skipper, spoke about preference being given to those with some understanding of Indian football. "It is a very important moment for Indian football, and we are committed to appointing a coach who not only brings technical expertise but also understands the unique style, culture, and dynamics of Indian and Asian football. "We believe such a coach will be able to connect with our players quickly and effectively," Paul stated.

Niddhi Agerwal, Bobby Deol and Sathyaraj are the other actors in prominent roles. The Hindu review of the movie said, 'The closing moments are reminiscent of SS Rajamouli's RRR. It is hard to elaborate without giving too much away, but the intended high point lacks both conviction and emotional weight. If there is a second part, it will need far sharper writing and more assured filmmaking.'
