Ex-CEO Jason Christopher Yates pleads guilty to possessing child pornography
Yates previously headed "My Faith Votes," an influential organisation dedicated to mobilising Christian voters in US elections. His admission of guilt has cast a dark shadow over the group's mission and sparked widespread condemnation.
The sinister nature of Yates's activities began to unravel on July 31, 2024, when the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension received a hard drive laden with child abuse images. The individual who handed over the evidence claimed to have received it from a relative of Yates. This relative, by sheer chance, reportedly discovered the hard drive tucked away in a dresser in Yates's office.
According to reports, the relative stumbled upon the drive while seeking extra storage for their own computer. What they uncovered instead was a horrifying collection of child pornography.
Yates's arrest in October 2024, as per a USA Today report, prompted swift action from "My Faith Votes." The organisation confirmed that Yates had been separated from his role as CEO in early August 2024, even before his arrest became public. Chris Sadler, a board member, immediately stepped in as Acting CEO.
"In early August 2024, the My Faith Votes board of directors separated Jason Yates from My Faith Votes and board member Chris Sadler assumed the position of Acting CEO," My Faith Votes stated in a press release to Religion News Service. "Over the last three months, Chris has been working with the dedicated My Faith Votes team to encourage millions of Christians to vote, pray and think biblically about this election in America.'
When confronted by agents in September, Yates chillingly confirmed that the images on the hard drive were indeed his and not his relatives. He also made a disturbing disclosure: he had a prior conviction for possessing child sex abuse images, though it had reportedly been expunged from his record. This revelation raises serious questions about the vetting processes within such organisations and the persistent threat posed by such offenders.

Arrest of nuns in Chhattisgarh: Rajeev Chandrasekhar meets Thrissur Archbishop Mar Andrews Thazhath
THRISSUR: BJP state chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Friday visited Thrissur Archbishop and president of Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI), Mar Andrews Thazhath, and assured all support for the release of two Malayali nuns arrested in Chhattisgarh. Speaking to the press after the meeting, Mar Thazhath said this was not the first case of arrest involving nuns. There should be a mechanism to ensure justice for the nuns who conduct social work and charity. He added that the Church welcomed the support extended by all, irrespective of political inclinations. Minority rights should be protected across the country, he said. 'The BJP has been following up the case since the moment it was brought to our notice. Judiciary and the legal system will take their own time. But, it is assured that the Chhattisgarh government would not oppose the nuns' bail plea when it comes up before the court. Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah had personally communicated it to me, and I visited Mar Andrews Thazhath to communicate this to him,' Rajeev said. It was a misunderstanding which led to the arrest of the nuns, he said. Two nuns Vandana Francis and Preeta Mary were arrested by Durg police as they were accompanied by tribal girls from Chhattisgarh. They were accused of human trafficking and conversion. However, it is reported that the girls were taken out of their homes for jobs with their consent as they were above 18 years and with their parents' knowledge. The girls follow Christian faith. However, while taking human resources from Chhattisgarh, agents or employers are supposed to register it on a portal even if it is within the state. 'In this case, this registration was not done,' he added.

Nuns arrest due to ‘misunderstanding', will be released soon: BJP state chief
Thrissur (Kerala): BJP state chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Friday said the arrest of two nuns in Chhattisgarh over allegations of human trafficking and forced conversion was due to a 'misunderstanding' and that they will be released on bail soon. Chandrasekhar made the statement after meeting with Archbishop of Trichur Andrews Thazhath, the president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI), to brief him that the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister have assured the nuns would be released on bail. The BJP state president said that both the PM and HM assured him that the state government will not oppose the bail pleas of the nuns. 'It is a judicial process. Let it happen. I only want to say that don't politicise the issue. We are not seeing it as politics. We are only trying to help the people. This was a misunderstanding,' he contended. Chandrasekhar said that there is a law regulating private placement agencies in Chhattisgarh which requires that young women moving from one district to another for jobs have to register on a portal. 'That was not done. Hence, the misunderstanding and the subsequent police action,' he said. Meanwhile, Archbishop Thazhath, after the meeting with the BJP state chief, told reporters the church wants the nuns to be released on bail during the day. He said it was 'painful' to hear about the action taken against the nuns. The Archbishop also said he informed Chandrasekhar about the increasing attacks on the Christian community in the country and the need to ensure their security. Nuns Preethi Merry and Vandana Francis along with Sukaman Mandavi were arrested at Durg railway station on July 25 following a complaint by a local Bajrang Dal functionary who accused them of forcibly converting three girls from Narayanpur and trafficking them.
