George Clooney is farming and driving a tractor. Seriously

CNN21-02-2025
George Clooney is living a life that might be surprising to many.
The esteemed actor and director opened up about his life with his wife, Amal Clooney, and their seven-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, in an interview with the New York Times.
They have homes in England and near his family in Kentucky, he told the publication, but their primary residence these days is a farm in France.
'Growing up in Kentucky, all I wanted to do was get away from a farm, get away from that life,' Clooney said. 'Now I find myself back in that life. I drive a tractor and all those things. It's the best chance of a normal life.'
Clooney as a farmer and it's not for a role? It's true, though people would be forgiven if they thought it was for a project.
After all, the New York Times story opens with an anecdote about Clooney smoking, not because he likes to, but for his upcoming Broadway debut as Edward R. Murrow in a stage adaptation of his 2005 movie, 'Good Night, and Good Luck.'
'I had to get better at inhaling,' Clooney explained. 'I go outside so the kids don't see and smoke a little bit.'
It's not something he enjoys given that within his extended family, 'eight uncles and aunts all died of lung cancer — it's a big deal.'
His aunt, singer and actress Rosemary Clooney, who died in 2002 at the age 74, was among his impacted loved ones.
The actor's father, journalist Nick Clooney, bucked the trend.
'My dad's the only one that didn't smoke, and he's 91,' the younger Clooney said.
Something the star has done recently that he did enjoy was bowling, though he said he had last bowled 30 years ago.
'Oh my God,' he said. 'It's an amazing thing, getting older, where you think you can still do stuff that you love.'
The 63-year-old said his twins help to keep him active and young.
'We're riding in the car to school and I make them listen to heavy metal because I just like it when they sing. My daughter has fallen in love with tragic songs,' he said. 'She loves Billie Eilish's 'What Was I Made For?' and Harry Nilsson's 'Without You.'' But they're happy kids, so I'm really lucky.'

Taye Diggs says 'How Stella Got Her Groove Back' love interest Angela Bassett 'wasn't impressed' by him in 'Rent'

Angela Bassett didn't groove with her future costar's performance in his most acclaimed project. Taye Diggs, who played the actress' Jamaican lover in 1998's How Stella Got Her Groove Back, said that the What's Love Got to Do With It actress was not particularly enthused by his turn as the sellout landlord in Rent on Broadway. "Angela Bassett went and came to see Rent and she wasn't impressed," Diggs told Keke Palmer on her podcast Baby, This is Keke Palmer. "She wasn't impressed." The Best Man actor said that his agent told him about Bassett's indifference to his performance in the musical and chalked it up to his character being the least important of the principal cast members. "Rent was that show where everybody was like, 'Okay, well, come see these kids in Rent,'" he recalled. "And they were like, 'Okay, well, we have this young man who's auditioning.' 'How can I see him?' Okay, come see the show Rent. And I had the smallest role in Rent of the main characters. So I was like, 'Okay, this isn't going to be. I'm not going to get any jump off of this. I'll just ride it out as hard as I can. And then the next thing, that'll be my jump off. And luckily, that's what it was, Angela Bassett in How Stella Got Her Groove [Back]." Instead, Diggs said that Bassett was more enthused by his performance on Guiding Light. "She saw the soap opera and I was playing this character on Guiding Light called Sugar Hill," he explained. "And she saw a little bit of sexiness in Sugar Hill and then she was like, 'Okay, bring him in.'" How Stella Got Got Her Groove Back marked Diggs' film debut, and he felt that he had hit his first post-Rent career milestone unfairly late. "For a while, you know, I really wasn't really enjoying where I was [in my career]," he explained. "I was expecting to get How Stella Got Her [Groove Back]. I was expecting it. Like, it came too late for me." Diggs explained that at the time, he thought he deserved breakout success at the same level as his Rent costars — if not even bigger stardom. "Idina [Menzel], she had got a record deal, Jesse Martin had got a TV show," he said, laughing. "I was the last one to hit. So I was like, 'Damn, y'all!' I'm like, in my head I was like, 'I'm more talented than all y'all! I'm the last — what's going on?'" He continued, "Finally, I got How Stella Got Her Groove Back, and I was like, 'Okay, now we at the party. Let's go,'" he said. However, Diggs admitted that he wouldn't have been satisfied if Stella marked the peak of his movie career."I was like, 'Okay, well, what's next? What's next?'" he recalled. "Because at the time it was, I was like, 'Okay, I wanna be the next Will Smith.' Because I was looking in. You know what I mean? I was like, 'I want that.' Because he's just Black enough where he can be Black, but not threatening to the white people — he could cross over.'" Though he never quite matched the global superstardom of Smith, Diggs still enjoyed a successful film career, appearing in movies like Brown Sugar, Equilibrium, Chicago, The Wood, Go, and the film adaptation of Rent. It's been quite lovely. Summer is in full swing and I'm just hoping we get more monsoon weather soon to cool off these hot days in the high mountain desert. We're also rapidly approach Wordle #1500. With fewer possible answers remaining than Wordles we've already solved, I keep wondering what the New York Times will do when we run out, though that's still over two years away. For now, we'll solve today's. How To Solve Today's Wordle The Hint: Today's Wordle is plural. The Clue: This Wordle has a double letter. Okay, spoilers below! The answer is coming! Today's Wordle Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here. SPARE only left me with 90 remaining solutions but even with two yellow boxes, I had a bit of trouble with this one. BOINK slashed that number to 8, which wasn't ideal (Wordle Bot says I should have picked CAROL here, and I tend to agree). VICAR left me with two, though I only came up with ATRIA. The other was RADII which is kind of an insanely obscure word. The really curious thing here is that typically Wordle answers aren't plural, but today's was. It just didn't end with an 'S' which I think must be the actual rule (no plurals ending in 'S' so no 'BOOKS' for instance). We tied, so the Wordle Bot and I get no points for that and no points for guessing in four. Our July totals remain: Erik: -2 points Wordle Bot: 4 points The word "atria" is the plural of "atrium," which comes from Latin atrium, meaning "central court" or "hall" of a Roman house. Its origin is uncertain, but it may be related to the Latin ater, meaning "black" or "dark," possibly referring to the sooty appearance of early Roman homes with central hearths.
