Plot thickens as car of missing Aussie man Joshua Bishop, 23, found after he vanished 10 days ago
Joshua Bishop, 23, was last seen in Lalor Crescent, in northwest Melbourne, by his housemate at 9.30pm on May 27.
Detectives were able to track his mobile phone to a park in Broadmeadows on the same day before his mother filed a missing persons report two days on May 29.
Despite an extensive police search utilising dog squads and drones Mr Bishop has so far not been found.
Mr Bishop's phone and bank accounts have been inactive since his disappearance and nobody has heard from him in more than 10 days.
His abandoned car, a white Toyota Corolla, was discovered by investigators on Ridley Street, in Albion, on Wednesday.
Friends of Mr Bishop believe his car was stolen but no formal theft report has been filed.
Mr Bishop's loved ones said they are deeply concerned about his welfare and that his disappearance is completely out of character.
Acting Detective Sergeant Matthew Wilson-Hawe said police have yet to rule out any suspicious circumstances relating to the disappearance.
'We were able to track his phone to a park in Broadmeadows, however despite an extensive search of the area we were unable to locate any trace of Joshua,' he said
'At this stage we simply don't know what has happened to him and have increasing concerns for his welfare.'
Detectives are now looking into whether Mr Bishop may have been involved in criminal activity prior to his disappearance.
'The more time passes without us hearing Joshua or getting any information about his whereabouts, the more we believe his disappearance is likely to be suspicious,' Sergeant Wilson-Hawe said.
Mr Bishop's mother, Kristie, shared a message on Facebook stating that 'someone must know something' regarding her missing son.
His uncle, Simon, also shared a post from the missing person's registry in an attempt to find Mr Bishop.
'Our Nephew is still missing, anyone with any information can private message me with no questions asked, someone has to know something,' he wrote.
Other friends and family of Mr Bishop shared messages of support on his mother's profile in the hopes that he will be found.
'My heart is breaking for you, I love you and we are praying and hoping for his safe return,' one family friend wrote.
'I cannot imagine what you guys are going through,' another added.
'Try keep your head up, thinking of you guys all the time. You're doing everything you can,' a third said.
Mr Bishop was last seen wearing a black singlet and track pants.
He has been described as Caucasian in appearance, with an average build, short hair and blue eyes.
Police are urging anyone with information on his whereabouts, including Mr Bishop himself, to contact Crime Stoppers.

Aussie grandmother who slipped in Woolies unleashes on supermarket
A furious grandmother has been left with a shattered wrist and a long, painful recovery after she slipped over in her local Woolworths. Dusanka Koljibabic was shopping at the Melville Woolworths in Perth 's southern suburbs when she suddenly lost her footing. The 69-year-old slipped and fell in the aisle less than a minute after a little girl, who had been playing with a cleaning product, sprayed it on the floor. The impact shattered her wrist, requiring surgery and a metal plate. Since then, her injury has taken a huge toll on her daily life. 'I was unable to shower, dress, or undress myself, cook, clean, do any gardening. Most definitely I wasn't in the position to drive,' she told 7News. 'I felt like my life was turned upside down in an instant. 'I feel like as a customer I have been ignored and it's through no fault of my own.' But five months on, Koljibabic says the supermarket giant continues to deny liability. She was offered a one-off $3000 payment, an 'insulting' offer she refused. While private health insurance has covered some of the costs, Koljibabic says she's already spent at least $5,000 and faces up to two years of rehabilitation. Woolworths told Daily Mail in a statement: 'We take the health and safety of our customers and team members very seriously. Our team members work hard to ensure the safety of all customers while in the store'. The case has highlighted the challenge of proving negligence in supermarket slip-and-fall incidents. In 2012, the High Court ruled that stores have a 15–20minute window to identify and remove hazards. But Ms Koljibabic believes that policy doesn't account for incidents like hers and says the substance on the floor was invisible to her and staff members. Her lawyer is considering taking legal action against the parents or guardians of the girl who sprayed the cleaning product. In 2017, a Sydney woman who was awarded $151,000 in compensation after slipping on a grape at her local Woolworths lost the payout on appeal. The NSW District Court initially ruled in her favour, with Justice Maiden SC finding it likely the grape had been dropped by a staff member before the store opened. The court accepted that Woolworths had adequate cleaning systems and staff training, but concluded there was no evidence the pre-opening inspection had been properly carried out that day. However, that ruling was later overturned on appeal. The woman not only lost the compensation but was also ordered to pay Woolworths' legal costs.

Region's knife robberies rise despite 'dedicated task force'
Knife robberies have risen in Greater Manchester despite the creation of a special taskforce set up to combat the problem. The rise is relatively modest at 4%, but other areas considered knife robbery "hotspots" saw reductions, including a 25% drop in the West Midlands. The government announced the taskforce following a steep rise in knife crime in seven police force areas, and the scheme has led to a 6% drop nationally since July 2024. Deputy Mayor of Greater Manchester, Kate Green, said the continued rise in region was related mostly to business robberies, and that "personal robberies" were coming down. Greater Manchester Police has recorded 1,345 knife-enabled robberies in the past 12 months, up from 1,288 recorded between July 2023 and June Green said the figures showed the increase in robberies was also "slowing down". "There's certainly much more to do," she said. "It's why we have a whole lot of initiatives running over this summer, policing the hot spots, stop and search, stopping vehicles and identifying the habitual knife carriers." The statistics include robberies involving the threat of a knife even if a blade is not actually seen by the victim. Moss Side based anti-knife crime campaigner and youth worker Kemoy Walker, whose nephew Prince Walker-Ayeni was stabbed to death aged 17 in April last year, said young people believed "boredom" was a factor in some offending. He told BBC Radio Manchester: "Young people have called out for diversionary activities because what they're saying is the reason why a lot of these things are happening in the community is because they're bored and they've got nothing to do."So as youth workers we've come up with a bit of a plan to try and look at what we can do to support the young people and that's what we're doing locally."Between July 2023 and June 2024, Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, the West Midlands, Avon and Somerset, the Metropolitan Police and the British Transport Police areas accounted for 70% of knife robberies set up in those areas in July 2024 used tactics including drones, knife arches and detection dogs, with the seven forces also increasing visible patrols and the number of plain clothes officers on the Secretary Yvette Cooper said: "When we came to office, knife-enabled robbery was increasing at a concerning rate."We have now started to drive numbers of those offences down through the work of our dedicated taskforces, and as a result, we have also seen the first small reduction in overall knife crime for four years."
