Woman hospitalized after crossing Brickell Avenue Bridge as it opened, Miami Police say; officer also injured

A woman was taken to the hospital on Saturday morning after a bridge connecting Downtown Miami and Brickell began to open while she was crossing, police said.
Just before 10:45 a.m., City of Miami Police responded to a call at the Brickell Avenue Bridge regarding a woman who was reportedly injured when the bridge began to open as she crossed it. According to police, the bridge opened just as she made it to the second half of the structure.
Miami Police told CBS News Miami that its officers immediately took action and rescued the woman, and she was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital to be treated for serious injuries to her legs.
Miami Police added that one of the responding officers sustained a cut to their hand because there was some shattered glass at the scene and was also taken to the hospital.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.

Neighborhood resident Rocky Dotson told local ABC station WPVI, that he knew something was wrong when he heard the blast from the explosion. "I'm sitting down in the living room watching TV and all of a sudden, I hear like a boom," Dotson told the outlet. "I came out, and it was just total chaos," Dotson recalled. In an official statement shared on Facebook, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker said she was 'deeply saddened' by news of the tragedy. 'One Philadelphian has died from her injuries. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — An investigation is underway after a person was shot in the eye socket Sunday afternoon in Nashville's Napier area, according to law enforcement. Metro Nashville dispatch said the incident was reported in the 80 block of Fain Street just before 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 29. A member of the Metro Nashville Police Department told News 2 the gunfire came from a black sedan as it drove through the area.
