The SEC and Big Ten are currently at a standstill over the college football playoff format
'We had a different view coming out of Destin around the notion of allocations,' Sankey said. 'The Big Ten has a different view. That's fine. We have a 12-team playoff, five conference champions. That could stay if we can't agree.' The Big Ten, which has won the last two national championships, favors a 4-4-2-2-1 format, giving four automatic bids to the SEC and Big Ten and awarding the ACC and Big 12 two bids apiece. The SEC, originally thought to be on the same page, switched gears at its spring meetings in Destin. The SEC favors five conference champions and 11 at-large bids, which would presumably favor the top conferences most seasons.
The CFP announced in May that teams in the upcoming playoff will be seeded strictly on where they are ranked instead of moving pieces around to reward conference champions. Last season's jumbled bracket, the first with 12 teams, gave byes to Big 12 champion Arizona State and Mountain West champion Boise State even though they were ranked 12th and ninth respectively by the playoff selection committee. That system made the rankings and the seedings in the tournament two different things. The five highest-ranked conference champions will still be guaranteed spots in the playoff.
While the CFP contract from 2026 through the 2031 season requires the SEC and Big Ten to consult other leagues about prospective changes to the playoff system, it also provides them with the ability to impose changes they both want. Now it's a matter of getting on the same page. 'I think there's this notion that there has to be this magic moment and something has to happen with expansion and it has to be forced – no,' Sankey said. 'When you're given authority, you want to be responsible in using that authority. I think both of us are prepared to do so.' The upfront responsibility in this, maybe where some of the confusion lies, is we have the ability to present a format or format ideas, gather information, see if we can all agree within that room. We don't need unanimity.

Police: Home Of Diamondbacks Star Ketel Marte Burglarized During All-star Break
A home belonging to Arizona Diamondbacks star Ketel Marte was burglarized during the Major League Baseball All-Star break, according to police. Scottsdale, Arizona, police confirmed that the department is investigating a high-dollar residential burglary that is believed to have happened on Tuesday night, which is when Marte was playing for the National League in its All-Star game win in Atlanta. Numerous personal items and jewelry were stolen. No one was at home when the burglary occurred. Police said the home is reportedly owned by Marte. Maricopa County Assessor's Office records show Marte owns a home on the block near the investigation. Police say the investigation is ongoing. Marte hit a two-run double in the first inning of the NL's win, which was secured after a home run contest at the end of the game after the score was tied after nine innings. The burglary is the latest in a series of thefts from the homes of high-profile athletes across the country this year. Players have been targeted because of the high-end products believed to be in their homes, and sometimes the thefts occur when they are away with their teams for road games. The FBI has warned sports leagues about crime organizations targeting professional athletes. The NFL and NBA have issued security alerts to athletes. A Seattle man was charged last month in connection with a string of burglaries at the homes of prominent active and retired professional athletes in the area.

Sabbi Scores in 4th Minute, White Adds 1 Goal, 1 Assist as Whitecaps Beat Dynamo 3-0
Emmanuel Sabbi scored a goal in the fourth minute, Sebastian Berhalter added a goal, and the Vancouver Whitecaps beat the Houston Dynamo 3–0 on Wednesday night. Yohei Takaoka had two saves and his MLS-high 10th shutout this season for Vancouver. Mathias Laborda's header from the center of the area off a ball-in played by Édier Ocampo was parried by diving goalkeeper Jonathan Bond, but Sabbi blasted a half-volley into the net to open the scoring. Brian White on the right side of the area played a pass back to a charging Sebastian Berhalter for a first-touch finish from just outside the penalty box in the 42nd. White had a penalty kick blocked by Bond but tapped in his own rebound to cap the scoring in the 56th. The Whitecaps (12-5-5) had lost back-to-back games–by a combined score of 6–0–and four of their last five. Houston (7-11-5) had 56 percent possession, though the Dynamo were outshot 14-13, 7-2 on target.
