Malaysia committed to elevating ties with Canada, says PM Anwar
This was conveyed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is currently on an official visit to France, to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney during a phone call, during which he also congratulated Carney on his Liberal Party's recent victory in Canada's Federal Election.
"I welcome PETRONAS' continued involvement in the LNG Canada project, which stands as a strong symbol of energy cooperation between the two countries and has the potential to catalyse future green and energy transition initiatives," he said.
The Prime Minister noted that as members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), Malaysia and Canada share a commitment to upholding the principles of free, open and multilateral trade that is fair and inclusive.
Anwar also expressed hope that Canada would reconsider its visa exemption policy for Malaysian citizens, in line with the treatment granted to other Commonwealth countries, in order to strengthen people-to-people ties and expand multilateral exchanges.
"We also underscored the importance of enhancing the Asean-Canada Strategic Partnership and expressed hope that negotiations on the Asean-Canada Free Trade Agreement can be concluded as soon as possible for mutual benefit," he added.
The Prime Minister also extended an invitation to Carney to make an official visit to Malaysia soon to further strengthen the friendship between both nations. - Bernama

The PKR deputy president was named alongside experts in the semiconductor industry: Datuk Lai Yit Loong, the former vice-president of Nvidia Corp and Foxconn, and Chiang Shang-Yi, a director at Foxconn and former chief operating officer of TSMC. Last year during KL20 Summit in April, Putrajaya and Selangor announced the Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park, which spans 60,000 square feet and located in PFCC Puchong. The project was expected to bring in economic returns of RM500 million to RM1 billion. In August last year, Sidec said Cyberjaya has been identified as the next location for the expansion of the Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park.

Anwar hopes Canada reconsiders visa exemption for Malaysians
KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his hope to his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney to reconsider visa exemptions for Malaysians. Malaysian citizens will need a visa for a trip to Canada, as a tourist, to study or to work. Interfaith council queries Anwar over non-extension of judges' tenure
An interfaith group has questioned whether Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had referred the tenure extensions of three top judges to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, as stipulated under Article 125 of the Federal Constitution.
