LAHAD DATU, June 18 — A 59-year-old man was arrested during Op Bakau yesterday for allegedly encroaching into the Lahad Datu Forest Reserve.
Lahad Datu Maritime Zone director, Maritime Commander Dzulfikhar Ali, said the joint operation carried out by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and the Sabah Forestry Department discovered that 2.02 hectares of land had been encroached upon.
'Checks revealed illegal activities, including mangrove tree logging, open burning, and the planting of oil palm, fruits, and vegetables. A residential house and a swiftlet bird nest structure were also built without permission,' he said in a statement today.
The suspect, who is believed to have committed an offence under the Forest Enactment 1968, has been referred to the Lahad Datu Forestry Department for further investigation.
Dzulfikhar said the integrated operation is crucial for protecting forest reserves, waterways, and coastal areas while preserving natural ecosystems and ensuring national maritime security.
Members of the public with information about criminal activities or emergencies at sea are encouraged to contact the Lahad Datu Maritime Zone via WhatsApp at 016-9305727 or MERS 999. — Bernama

Police probe HKL car park assault after foreigner found bleeding, CCTV footage handed over

KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 — The Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) has handed over the closed-circuit camera (CCTV) footage to police to facilitate the investigation into the incident in which a foreigner, apparently a victim of an assault, was found injured and bleeding in the hospital's multi-storey car park last Sunday. The Ministry of Health (MoH), in a statement today, quoted HKL director Datuk Dr Harikrishna K.R. Nair as saying that the incident occurred at around 4.30pm and a report was lodged at Dang Wangi Police station on the same day. 'Following that, the victim was given immediate treatment at the HKL Emergency and Trauma Department. This case is still under investigation by police, and HKL will not issue a statement that could interfere with the ongoing inquiry,' said Dr Harikrishna. A 41-second video went viral earlier this week showing a foreign man standing next to a car with a head wound in the HKL multi-storey car park. The man then collapsed before paramedics rushed to his aid. Dang Wangi police chief ACP Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said an initial examination found the victim also suffered a fractured right rib, but no skull fracture. Sulizmie said the case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing injury with a weapon, and members of the public with information are asked to contact Inspector Pang Wei Keong at 013-2082391 or DSP Rosdi M Husin at 013-3920694. — Bernama

Selangor MMEA seizes tanker with 62,000 litres of illegal diesel

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has seized a tanker transporting 62,000 litres of diesel without a valid permit. The vessel was intercepted during a routine patrol near Tanjung Harapan, Port Klang. Maritime Captain Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh, director of Selangor MMEA, confirmed the detention occurred around 1.30 pm yesterday. The tanker was manned by a 43-year-old captain and six Indonesian crew members, all holding valid identification. Inspections revealed the diesel was being transported without proper documentation. Authorities issued a detention order, and the captain and second engineer were taken to the Marine Police Jetty in Pulau Indah for further questioning. The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for unauthorised possession, storage, and transport of controlled goods. The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) oversees such violations.
