I'm young and healthy but I've made a 24-minute montage to be played at my own funeral

Daily Mail12-06-2025
A young and healthy woman has prepared her own funeral montage in advance to guarantee 'only the hottest photos get chosen', her best friend recently revealed on TikTok.
Jasmine, from the US, documented the moment Alexis Pinedo, who works in an American funeral parlour, played the 24-minute 'morbid' video clip during what was supposed to be a routine sleepover.
Beneath the clip, which has since gone viral on social media, Jasmine wrote: 'Having a morbid best friend who works in funeral and cemetery services is not for the weak.
'Anyone else's best friend make their own funeral montage to make sure only the hottest photos get chosen,' she added, panning the camera to a shot of Alexis.
Alexis admitted she created the photo montage in advance to guarantee her loved ones would only see her looking her best in death, while adding the nearly half-an-hour long video covered her 'whole life.
The slideshow was set to emotional music with a vision for how Alexis wanted to be remembered post-mortem.
She admitted she had thought through all the details, including who will inherit her favorite Darth Maul t-shirt, and what colour the flowers at her funeral will be.
Even though Jasmine appeared to believe Alexis' preparations were a bit extreme, the latter - who is Mexican-American - believes making these arrangements is normal.
Both her job and her Mexican heritage have helped Alexis embrace death as a natural part of life.
Plus, Alexis told People, 'I've always just been a little morbid and creepy myself'.
She also admitted she was motivated to create the montage following a motorcycle accident that Jasmine's cousin was involved in.
Though he survived, it left the funeral worker wondering what would happen if she died unexpectedly and without any preparation.
'I'm really particular, and I don't trust anybody to do things the way that I want to do it,' she said. 'If this happens to me, you make sure I'm right. Don't have me looking all crazy with two different-shaped eyebrows. I got to have my nails done. I want a specific colour of flowers.'
While she admitted that only selecting the 'hottest' photos was in jest, she emphasised the practicality of 'unburdening' her family by having something in the pipeline - should she meet a sudden and fatal end.
Time spent working intimately with people who have lost loved ones to unforeseen circumstances has made Alexis of the toll they take on their loved ones.
People in the comments found the video, which has now nearly 2 million views, othrt heartwarming and hilarious
Recalling the evening she saw the montage for the first time, best friend Jasmine said she was as much in fits of giggles and she was floods of tears.
'We were both crying watching it,' she said, joking that their families were left baffled by the two watching an early funeral screening for Alexis.
Alexis's no-nonsense approach to death has made Jasmine less fearful of death too, as she explained it has taught her a combination of 'comedy, laughing, and accepting it' to cope with it.
Reflecting on the strength of their relationship, she said people should 'hold on to' friendships like theirs - adding 'nothing is ever that serious'.
'Even death isn't that serious.'
Having planned the day of her funeral meticulously, Alexis said it would be the 'last time' she'd see the video since she wouldn't be there to watch it on the day.
People in the comments found the video, which has now received nearly 2 million views, both heartwarming and hilarious.
One commenter wrote: 'Not her having ya'll sit through a funeral montage while she's still alive.'
Inspired by the choice to prepare in advance for the funeral, a second chimed: 'I gotta do one of these, because I just KNOW my family wouldn't do me justice lol.'
A third commented: 'My grandma did the same thing. She proofed her own obituary and had to personally approve each pic in her montage. She also went out in a glittery pink casket. Queen behaviour.'
'A girl can't have a dress rehearsal for her other big day?,' one viewer joked.

Hollyoaks actor John Middleton lets slip huge spoiler and it's bad news for one character

Hollyoaks actor John Middleton appeared on Tuesday's Good Morning Britain John Middleton spoke all about his new Hollyoaks role on Tuesday's Good Morning Britain. ‌ The actor, 71, who is best known for playing Emmerdale's kind-hearted vicar Ashley Thomas for 21 years has now joined the rival Channel 4 soap as "evil character" Froggy Black. ‌ John is playing convict Froggy, the grandfather to notorious characters Clare Devine (Gemma Bissix) and Grace Black (Tamara Wall). ‌ Currently a resident of Longmere prison, Froggy has struck up an alliance with the newly imprisoned 'Tax Man' Tom Cunningham (Ellis Hollins), who has become his clandestine financial adviser. Recent episodes have shown Tom plotting against his old nemesis Clare, apparently collaborating with Froggy in his schemes. ‌ Froggy's storyline kicks off when he learns shocking news about Gracie's location from Tom, prompting him to take action. Yet, it remains to be seen if his grandchildren will accept him with open arms... Talking about the storyline and new role on Tuesday's Good Morning Britain, host Ed Balls asked of his character: "Are you going to be reformed?" To which John teased of Froggy: "I might appear reformed but he knows a lot of secrets about other people and in fact one in particular if he revealed what he knows about that person's past... it would be catastrophic..." ‌ He added: "We'll have to see how the story develops..." Meanwhile fellow host Kate Garraway asked: "Prison reform are you [Froggy] going to turn it on its head?" to which John admitted: "I somehow doubt it with the way things are going..." ‌ Soap watchers will recall that John played Emmerdale vicar Ashley from 1996 to 2017. Ashley's slow deterioration after his dementia diagnosis saw him lose his memory, no longer able to recognise his wife, Laurel and their children in emotional scenes. The character tragically passed away in 2017, leaving viewers in tears over the heartbreaking and poignant scenes. In 2017, John won Best Male Dramatic Performance at The British Soap Awards for his heartbreaking portrayal of Ashley amid the character's dementia diagnosis. Since leaving Emmerdale, John showcased his talents in Strangers on a Train, playing American detective Arthur Gerard. In 2021, John took on the role of Frank in the one-man show Hull and High Water, and throughout 2022 and 2023, he portrayed Colonel Pickering in the UK Tour of My Fair Lady. Hollyoaks airs Monday to Wednesday on E4 at 7pm and first look episodes can be streamed Channel 4 from 7am.

Margaret Qualley reveals how she struggled on her own before meeting husband Jack Antonoff

Margaret Qualley has opened up about her relationship with husband Jack Antonoff as she posed for her latest cover-shoot on Monday. The 30-year-old explained that she was 'a late bloomer' and turned to magazines to read about sex which took away the 'shame and embarrassment' surrounding it. The actress, who is the daughter of model Andie MacDowell, also debunked claims of nepotism as she revealed she 'lived out of a suitcase, without any furniture' when she was just 16 until she became financially independent. Speaking to Cosmopolitan, as she posed for sizzling photos, the Maid star said that she always 'felt really lonely' before meeting singer Jack in 2020. She said: 'Jack makes me feel safe and comfortable. I spent so many years trying to be someone's perfect girl, and that girl changed over and over. But I can't lie to Jack—he'd see through it. 'So I just have to be myself. He's been the person I've pictured my whole life. And I'm not even saying that metaphorically. My first crush was Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore, and I've been looking for that essence my whole life. I'm like, "That's Jack".' The actress married Jack in August 2023, in a star-studded affair in New Jersey, where the bride wore a Chanel halter-neck gown, of course, Mary Jane shoes, and her dark locks was styled in a short bob. The celebrity guest list included such A-listers as Taylor Swift, Channing Tatum, Lana Del Rey, Zoe Kravitiz, Cara Delevingne, Alex Wolff and, of course, Andie MacDowell. Margaret has followed in her famous mother's footsteps as she has also been on the September issue of Cosmo, back in 1982. Speaking of her mom Andie's cover shoot she described it as 'iconic' and it made her 'manifest' wanting to be on the magazine as well. She said: 'Ever since I was young, Cosmo has been the only magazine I've avidly read. I was reading this way before I'd had sex. It removed shame from sex. I realized that there's a world in which you can have fun and not be so embarrassed about it all.' Despite having a very famous mum in the industry, Margaret hit back at claims she is a nepo baby as she lived alone in New York 'terrified' from the age of 16. She said: 'It felt terrifying. I didn't have any friends. I didn't know anyone. If a guy got on the elevator, I would get off. I lived all of my 20s out of a suitcase, without any furniture. I had a mattress on the floor. And I became financially independent by the time I was 18, so I was super frugal, too.' It comes after Margaret appeared in Happy Gilmore 2 with Adam Sandler, which she talked her way into because she loves the original film. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actress revealed her husband lied to Adam via text to bag her the role. 'I saw that there was an announcement, like, there's going to be a Happy Gilmore 2. And I emailed my agents right away. And I said, "Anything it takes. No part is too small. Please! I got to be a part of this. I beg of you, please, whatever it takes,' she admitted. Then at some point, Adam texted Jack, asking, 'Does your wife golf at all?' He replied, 'Yeah, she's actually good!' Adam replied, 'No way,' as the music producer asked, 'We talking 'Gilmore' or charity golf tournament?' The actor replied, 'Gilmore. might bug her for a couple days, funny thing. She'd be awesome.' Qualley admitted: 'What a good husband. And I can't golf. He lied for the sake of the family. Yeah.' As for the sport of golf, she admitted: 'Never golfed a day in my life. I'm terrible, actually.' She added that she went into a barn to hit some golf balls for the first time and she did take some lessons: 'But mostly I'm still bad.' When asked about the experience working with Adam, Margaret said: 'He's the best. It was the best thing that's ever happened to me.' She added that Sandler was her, 'first crush' and the original 1996 comedy classic Happy Gilmore is her, 'favorite movie,' adding Sandler is, 'the greatest of all time.'

Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore review – stirring study of activism and adversity of a deaf icon

Shoshannah Stern's study of Marlee Matlin is a film with a real story to tell, about a woman who became a compelling figure in American public life. She is perhaps destined to be known chiefly as the first deaf performer to win an Oscar, for the movie Children of a Lesser God in 1987, but she also campaigned to ensure that Washington DC's Gallaudet University for deaf and hearing-impaired people had a deaf president, and that all new TV sets were built with optional closed-captioning for deaf people. Generally, she has conducted an ongoing campaign to do away with the condescension of pity, and to raise awareness among hearing people about deaf people's consciousness and culture, particularly in sign language. Matlin revealed something more in her 2009 autobiography I'll Scream Later: a history of drug addiction (the Betty Ford clinic told her she had to pay for her own interpreter) and of being sexually abused as a child. She also revealed she'd been abused as an adult by her partner William Hurt, her method-acting co-star in Children of a Lesser God, who was perhaps less than delighted to see all the acclaim go to her and was, in a pre-#MeToo period of exposure, singularly unrepentant. There are some toe-curling TV clips of Matlin being patronised by pundits as the 'sympathy vote' candidate ahead of the 1987 Oscars, and Stern also perhaps mischievously catches out some people in the present day: Nicole Kidman didn't look entirely relaxed applauding in sign language as the drama Coda, about a hearing girl in a deaf family, won at the 2022 Oscars. This is an engaging and thoroughly worthwhile movie. I myself am agnostic, to say the least, about the crowd-pleasing Coda, of which Matlin was a part, but it certainly could not have existed without her and her achievements. Children of a Lesser God is a more self-conscious issue movie, though, perhaps oddly, this documentary doesn't point out its fundamental flaw: Matlin's character is not subtitled, so Hurt's character cumbersomely has to vocalise what she signs for the hearing audience's benefit, as if pondering it to himself. This film makes a rather interesting case that Matlin's achievements showed up as much or more on TV, with her sparkling small roles on Seinfeld and The West Wing. Either way, Matlin is an American pioneer. Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore is in UK cinemas from 8 August
