Calon Wen milk co-op marks 25 years with new products
The co-operative, based at Pantyffynnon, now consists of 25 organic dairy farmer members from across Wales, collectively producing over 20 million litres of milk each year.
The company's dairy product line includes the popular Calon Wen-branded milk, butter, and cheese, which are available in both independent stores and major retailers throughout England and Wales.
Calon Wen unveiled its new branding at an event attended by farmer members and representatives from the dairy industry and food sector. This occasion celebrated the co-operative's achievements over the past 25 years and provided insight into the company's latest developments as well as its future plans.
The new branding features bold colours and imagery of rolling green fields, presenting a fresh and clean look while retaining key elements of Calon Wen's original branding, including the iconic 'Moula the Cow', to ensure continuity as the brand evolves.
Dai Miles, Calon Wen's Managing Director and a dairy farmer, stated, "As we look to the future of Calon Wen, we want our branding to reflect this evolution. We are not changing who we are; we are sharpening our focus on what truly matters—our farmers, our customers, and our planet.
"The brand refresh celebrates Calon Wen's Welsh roots while showcasing our commitment to expand and innovate without compromising our organic values."
The celebration also offered a sneak peek at the cooperative's latest branded product: Calon Wen Organic Dairy Ice Cream - which will be available to the public for the first time at this month's Royal Welsh Show in Llanelwedd (July 21-24).
Produced by the award-winning Welsh company Mario's Ice Cream, Calon Wen Organic Dairy Ice Cream comes in three delicious flavours: Vanilla, Strawberries & Cream, and Honeycomb & Honey Swirl.

North Wales tourism attraction gets £12m for 'transformational' change
An attraction has received £12m for its "transformational" redevelopment. National Slate Museum, Llanberis, is already undergoing significant changes after backing from UK and Welsh government funds and Cyngor Gwynedd. Now it has been confirmed that site owner Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales has been awarded £12m by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. This means that work on the redevelopment can move forward to the next stage. They said it would "guarantee the future of the Museum and the globally significant story of the North Wales slate industry". The Grade 1 listed building in Llanberis has been home to the National Slate Museum since 1972 when it was first opened to the public after the closure of the Dinorwig slate quarry in 1969. Works at the Museum will transform the experience for visitors and create a sustainable future for this internationally significant site. The redevelopment work will retain the essence of the industrial workshops which sit at the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in North Wales, while sharing and celebrating the global story of how slate from this small corner of North West Wales was used to 'roof the world'. The redevelopment will create a new learning centre, play area, shop and café, as well as improving accessibility throughout the site and creating more opportunities to discover and enjoy the slate story through new exhibitions and interpretation. Dedicated exhibition spaces will allow Amgueddfa Cymru to share more items from the national collection, bringing more exciting exhibitions to North Wales for the first time and ensuring more people can access and enjoy Wales' national collection. As well as conserving the historic fabric of the site and the collections and stories, the redevelopment will contribute to the regional economy, offering employment opportunities, student work placements and traineeships. The funding will also enable the site to continue to develop its role as a living museum by offering training and opportunities for people from all backgrounds to enjoy, learn about and develop endangered traditional heritage skills. Jane Richardson, Chief Executive of Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales, said: "We are truly thrilled to have been awarded this significant grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund which means we can progress the redevelopment plans with certainty. This is a key milestone in the Llanberis redevelopment project and is exciting news for us, for the wider community, and for everyone in Wales. "Thanks to National Lottery players, we can now conserve the history of the National Slate Museum for future generations and move towards a more sustainable future for the Museum which will be more inclusive, more accessible, and which will inspire growth and learning. This will mean even more people can access and enjoy the global success story of North Wales slate." Lord Dafydd Wigley, Chair of the Wales Slate Partnership, said: "As the main hub of the Slate Landscape of Northwest Wales World Heritage Site, the National Slate Museum has a vital role to play in sharing this important heritage with the public - from local communities to the wider world. This significant investment from The National Lottery Heritage Fund will help to develop this site as a gateway to our history and culture that will engage and inspire generations today and in the future." Councillor R. Medwyn Hughes, Cabinet Member for Economy and Community, Cyngor Gwynedd, said: "I am delighted to see a sum of this scale being awarded to this heritage location that is so important to Gwynedd, Wales and the World. It recognises the important and rich history that this area has had in roofing the world and will create a deserving resource and boost to the local area." Alongside this significant grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Amgueddfa Cymru said it is extremely grateful for funding support secured through partnerships with Cyngor Gwynedd (via UK Government) as part of the Llewyrch o'r Llechi project, Welsh Government, and other funders. It is understood total funding is around £21m.

Former Clwyd West MP and Tory cabinet minister joins Reform
David Jones, who served as Welsh secretary under David Cameron between 2012 and 2014, confirmed he was joining Nigel Farage's party on Monday after more than 50 years as a Tory. Mr Jones, who stood down from Parliament last year after 19 years as an MP, described the move as 'a very difficult decision for me'. He said he had written to the Conservatives in October to say he would not renew his membership, but received no reply. He said: 'I joined the Conservatives all those years ago because I believed it was the party that best reflected my values and beliefs. Regrettably, that is no longer the case. 'Today, Reform UK is the party that best represents my views – and, I believe, those of many others who have become disillusioned with the two old major parties.' After losing his cabinet job in the 2014 reshuffle, he went on to become a minister in the Department for Exiting the EU under Theresa May for a year between 2016 and 2017. He later became deputy chairman of the European Research Group, a Eurosceptic group of Tory MPs. Mr Jones, who is married to Sarah, a former nurse, and has two sons, said he had no intention of standing for election, and had joined Reform 'as a private individual'. But as a former cabinet minister, he is the most senior ex-Tory MP to join Reform so far, following Marco Longhi, Anne Marie Morris, Ross Thomson, Aiden Burley and Dame Andrea Jenkyns, now the mayor of Greater Lincolnshire. His defection also comes as Mr Farage's party seeks to make significant gains in next year's elections at the Senedd in Wales, where polls suggest the party is in second or third place. It is a boost for Reform after a difficult weekend in which one of its five MPs 'removed the party whip from himself' amid allegations about two of his businesses. James McMurdock, MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock, insisted 'all' of his 'business dealings' complied with regulations following claims he improperly borrowed money from the government during the pandemic.
