HBCU championship coach finds new program
The university will introduce Dunk at a press conference on Friday, June 13, at 12:00 p.m. The event will be held at Barco-Stevens Hall on Virginia Union's campus in Richmond, Virginia.
Dunk brings more than 20 years of coaching experience at HBCUs. He most recently spent eight seasons as the head coach at Stillman College. In 2025, he led the Lady Tigers to a 26-6 record, the best in school history. That season included an HBCU Athletic Conference regular-season title and the school's first win in the NAIA National Tournament. Dunk won 112 games at Stillman-more than any women's coach there in the past 40 years.
Before that, he coached the women's team at Elizabeth City State University. Over five seasons, he led the Lady Vikings to an 83-56 record. They won two CIAA Northern Division titles during his tenure. In 2013, he was named CIAA Coach of the Year after a 24-4 season and a 15-1 mark in league play.
Dunk also coached the ECSU men's team and served as an assistant during their 2007 CIAA Championship run.
A native of Ayden, North Carolina, Dunk was a standout in football and basketball at Ayden-Grifton High School. He began his college career at Tennessee, then transferred to East Carolina University. He was a two-year captain at ECU and earned a degree in Exercise and Sports Science in 1999.
After graduation, he taught and coached high school basketball before playing professionally in Asia. He later earned a master's degree in Sports Management from Virginia State University.

He is currently seeking a jury trial and monetary compensation for the 'damage' done to both his reputation and market for his work. Winston's counsel had sent the team a cease-and-desist notice to the team last October, though it was allegedly ignored. PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU), a leading HBCU located in Texas, has announced the immediate end of its Men's and Women's Tennis programs. The move is part of a larger plan to reshape Panther Athletics for long-term stability and a better student-athlete experience. This decision follows a full review of the university's athletic programs. With college sports changing quickly, PVAMU and many other HBCU athletic departments must make hard choices to remain competitive while staying true to their mission. Jackson State lone HBCU in FCS poll
The 2025 STATS PERFORM FCS Poll is out and HBCU national champion Jackson State is the only one in the top State, the reigning SWAC champion and Celebration Bowl winner, was ranked 17th in the 56-person poll. North Dakota State was the top-ranked school other HBCU football programs were listed in the receiving votes category. Defending MEAC champion South Carolina State, which went 9-3 last season including a loss to JSU in the Celebration Bowl, received 35 votes. It will play this season without reigning MEAC Offensive Player of the Year Eric Phoenix, who led the team as its starting quarterback. Tennessee State received 21 votes after a 9-4 season that included a three-way tie for the Ohio Valley/Big South Conference championship and an FCS playoff game. It will start this season under new head coach Reggie Barlow following the departure of Eddie George. The final HBCU in the receiving votes category was North Carolina Central. NC Central went 8-3 last season, with its loss to South Carolina State the only blemish in five conference State went 12-2 last season en route to its third SWAC title in four seasons and its fourth Celebration Bowl. It lost leading rusher Irv Mulligan but returns a solid cast of players including starting quarterback Jacobian Morgan and defensive tackle Jeremiah Williams, one of the final holdovers from the Deion Sanders Era.
