Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr Breandán Fitzgerald remarked:
"Kerry County Council is delighted to partner with Creative Ireland on Cruinniú na nÓg. This is a great day for children and young people, who have many opportunities to explore creativity and maybe find a new skill.'
In Killorglin, Rochelle Lucey and Darragh Kinch hosted Screen-Printing Workshops and mural workshops, followed by a screening of films by Jesse Gilbert. Donal Moroney also organised a concert in the town on the Saturday evening as part of the festivities and he spoke to The Kerryman about how it all went.
"It was a great night altogether. It was a great way of showcasing all of the wonderful local young talent that we have here. It was great for them to have an opportunity to perform. There was some great acts on the night including a new trad group called Undercurrent who were just brilliant,' he said.
'There was wonderful support for them on the evening too from locals to parents so we're delighted with how it all went,' Donal continued.
Elsewhere in Kenmare, the town offered monoprinting, building your own safari jeep, robots and mini lamps whilst Sneem had an action-packed day with 'Happy Mess'- including singing, DJ party disco and arts and craft sessions.
In Killarney Lily MacMonagle encouraged Swifties who were invited to 'Sing it, Shake it, Slay it' at the ANAM centre as part of a Taylor Swift inspired workshop.
Kerry International Film Festival hosted a Create Your Own Script workshop at Muckross Traditional Farms, in addition to a wonderful Singer's Circle with Grace Foley, and Music Generation Kerry offered a fun filled 'Whack,Strum, Play'.
Listowel proved itself to be a centre for literature and much more, with Fighting Words creative writing workshops, Clay Pottery, Art Workshops and not to forget the King of Mayhem, Ronaldo Fanzini at St. John's Theatre in Listowel. Dingle meanwhile offered nature-based art workshops at An Díseart with Darrach Ó'Murchú and teen bracelet making with Celtic Costal Creations.

Tralee was a vibrant hub with nineteen events, hosted by Síamsa Tíre, Collis Sandes House, KCYS, Tralee Library and Kerry County Museum. Highlights included sock puppet workshops, Wonder Walls workshops, Makermeet STEAM activities, Youth Theatre Island workshops, the Magic Mirror, Drumming Playshop, Creative Dance and a Ukrainian necklace workshop.
Emma Carmody, the Creative Communities Engagement Officer for Kerry County Council, who coordinated the day for Kerry stated, 'I especially want to thank all facilitators, artists, and organisers who make this annual day of youth creativity happen, and the young people and their families who came out to participate on the day.'

Wexford libraries to host new Irish language children's story project
Titled 'Éist', the story project will invite children from six to 12 years of age to take part in bilingual workshops in libraries across Wexford throughout July and August while offering access to a cosy pop-up installation of children's audio stories. The project is funded by Wexford County Council through the Creative Ireland programme. In the first 'Cúpla Focal' Irish/English workshops in July, children in Gorey, Enniscorthy and Wexford Town libraries will be guided by writer Alison Ní Mháirtín in activities to unearth their favourite Irish words. Following these workshops, Alison will write a new audio story featuring the favourite focail that will be recorded with actor Miriam Needham and produced by Rose Producing for broadcast across the airwaves. Then in August, there will be a series of 'Scéalta & Sound' listening party workshops – in Bunclody, New Ross and Wexford Town libraries – where the young participants can embark on their own sonic adventure while getting the chance to listen to the new story. Alison said: 'I'm really excited to find out what the children's favourite words are as Gaeilge and collaborate with them all on this new audio story and workshop series across libraries in Wexford. I love tents and it will be great to have the warm festival feeling of summer without having to go to a muddy field.' In each of the participating libraries there will be an audio installation running for a number of weeks. Young listeners will be invited to get cosy in one of the specially set-up audio tents and enjoy one of the following bilingual and monolingual stories: Fiachra and the Biscuit Tin Garden (Alison Ní Mháirtín); Lara ar Strae (Miriam Needham); Caoimhe agus na Caoga Caoirigh Craicáilte (Fionn Foley); Hug Me With Your Words (Brigid O'Dea); Duisíonn na hIoraí Rua (Lewis Kenny); Gig Nua (Diane Crotty); Niamh's Nuacht (Hilary Bowen-Walsh) and Arwa and the Egotistical Limpet (Brigid O'Dea). While suitable for all children, the tents have proven particularly popular in the past with autistic children at similar installations produced by Rose Producing at other venues. Cillian Murphy and Yvonne McGuinness to return Kerry cinema to local community
Actor Cillian Murphy and his wife Yvonne McGuinness plan to return one of the last family-run cinemas in the country back to a 'repurposed' version of its former glory. However, Ms McGuinness told local residents at the first of three public meetings at Dingle's Phoenix Cinema that it won't play host to regular viewing of films like Mr Murphy's blockbuster, Oppenheimer. Although it will host mainstream films at times, Yvonne McGuinness said: "We are not going to accommodate everyone. "Oppenheimer is going to the multiplexes. They won't give it to us unless we screen it three or four times a day and that's not going to happen.' Arts centre plan for Phoenix Cinema The artist said the couple want to reopen the venue as a not-for-profit arts centre, hosting films, concerts, and a range of community events and workshops and 'flexible spaces'. At the Dykegate St venue, she said it will take the couple about three years to repurpose the cinema. They will fund the work themselves as regeneration funding applications in partnership with Kerry County Council work their way through the system. She said: 'We really want to make this work. Cillian and myself are only custodians of the Phoenix. 'Our job is to journey through a new phase to it becoming a not-for-profit arts centre. "It's not about us. It's about protecting a small part of Irish cultural history. These cinema buildings with their iconic frontages were the first cultural infrastructure in Ireland. Like train stations, they were in every town, but instead, these places transported people in creative ways. 'Most of them are disappearing or have been repurposed and we felt compelled to save the Phoenix, because these buildings are part of our cultural identity.' The couple confirmed the purchase of the iconic cinema last November. At the time, Ms McGuinness said the couple planned to increase the venue's 'creative potential'. They bought it after a three-year campaign was launched by locals to save it after Michael O'Sullivan, who had bought it in 1978 and reopened it two years later, shut its doors during the pandemic, in November 2021. He cited, among other reasons, rising costs and falling attendances. Centre could bring new life to Dingle Ms McGuinness also said the couple and their team, including architect Andrew Clancy, see their project as an opportunity to bring life to the town centre of Dingle. 'There could be something that this building does that's bigger than the picture house alone, that's bigger than the cinema,' she said. 'There could be days in the summer where every single part of this building is open and that people can walk through it. "There could be days in the winter where the whole thing is allowing some closed sessions, some conference for people to happen, or artists to gather and exhibit work together. 'There could be times when the cinema is active all the time for films and there could be weeks where it's quite relaxed and it's allowing other things to happen.' History of concerts and dances As well as a cinema, it has also operated as a concert venue and dance hall, playing host to legends such as guitarist Rory Gallagher, since it was opened in 1919. It has also played host to the Dingle International Film Festival, where — in 2010 — Mr Murphy introduced his new film at the time, Perrier's Bounty. Other guests at the festival, held annually in March between 2007 and 2019, included actors Gabriel Byrne, Laura Dern, Aidan Gillen, Sarah Miles, Barry Keoghan, Maureen O Hara, Jack Reynor, and Saoirse Ronan. As well as seeing films at the cinema with his own children, Mr Murphy watched films there as a youth, as did his own father before him.

Kerry festival featuring top musicians and cultural events promises to be ‘magical experience'
'Rewild' will be held in a beautiful forest at the old Gap of Dunloe Golf Course near Killarney on Saturday, July 12. Up to 900 revellers, foodies and culture enthusiasts from across the county and beyond are expected to go to the one-day event. Those who attend will be able to witness performances from talented local and international musicians, including folk band Jiggy, 90s dance and R&B collective The Circus Ponies and house and techno DJ Shiels. Talks on rewilding and the Irish language, a host of engaging art and markets offering a range of quality food will also be major features of the event. Organiser Kevin Leahy told The Kerryman the one-day festival will be a phenomenal day. 'There will be loads of art on display. It will be a magical experience,' Mr Leahy said. 'The location and setting are outstanding. It's a small festival that has developed authentically. It's eco-friendly and it has a very small carbon footprint.' 'Rewild' has grown from the 'Eats and Beats' festival which started out as a pop-up event at various Killarney venues in 2021. Mr Leahy said the festival was rebranded this year to reflect the importance of rewilding, a subject close to his heart, and its scenic venue at the entrance to the Gap of Dunloe. The aim of the festival is to bring people together and help them to connect with kindred spirits to 'ground and rewild' themselves in an era of disconnection. Mr Leahy has urged those interested in attending to get their tickets now while they are still available.
