Medical pot‑boiler Pulse, led by Willa Fitzgerald and Colin Woodell, was secretly pronounced dead more than a month ago - with the cast already hunting new gigs.
It arrived last in a stampede of five newbie hospital shows.
While rivals Doc, Brilliant Minds, The Pitt and Watson were renewing scripts, Pulse landed on the very day Noah Wyle's smash‑hit The Pitt dropped its penultimate episode - and viewers barely noticed.
Plus, a heavy sexual‑harassment storyline hardly screamed 'escapist telly' for viewers seeking cosy soap thrills.
And now, comedy whodunnit The Residence – boasting Uzo Aduba, Giancarlo Esposito and Randall Park – was shown the door this week.
It hit the platform just seven days after coming‑of‑age juggernaut Adolescence exploded, hogging every Top 10 spot and stealing social media thunder.
Netflix forked out for a jaw‑dropping White House replica spread over seven sound stages – 200 working doors, 10 miles of moulding, 144,000 lbs of flooring – but the lavish set couldn't save it from the budget crunch.
Even the Shondaland badge (the team behind Bridgerton) and Aduba's award‑winning sleuth Cordelia Cupp couldn't guarantee a second case file.
Despite the axe, both shows did rack up solid early numbers and managed four weeks apiece in the global Top 10.
The Residence peaked at No.2 on Netflix's global Top 10 with 8.8 million views.
Netflix teen drama slammed over steamy sex scenes as fans accuse bosses of 'fetishising young cast'
While Pulse wasn't far behind - hitting No.3 with 8.5 million views.
But even those figures weren't enough to save them - especially with the likes of the romantic hit Ransom Canyon (9.4 million) and nowhere near the viral might of Adolescence (141.2 million).
Glitzy casts and mega sets couldn't stop Netflix from cutting them loose.
In the streamer's high‑stakes game of renewals, even A‑listers can be a single-series wonder.
It's a brutal game in the land of streaming - and even millions of views don't guarantee a second shot.

Dark TV show 'compared to Ozark' dominates Netflix charts

Last month Netflix dropped all eight episodes of a new drama that's been compared to Ozark and it's now dominating the Netflix charts. The Waterfront, which was created by Dawson's Creek and Scream writer Kevin Williamson, is currently number one on the Netflix charts and has been watched an impressive 11,600,000 times. So what's it about? Well, set against the backdrop of coastal North Carolina… [The Waterfront] centres on the fictional Buckley family and their crumbling fishing empire.' Starring 90s movie star Holt McCallany, Coyote Ugly actress Maria Bello, and Supergirl legend Mellisa Benoist, The Waterfront 'explores family dynamics and the lengths people will go to when their legacy is on the line'. The series has proven to be wildly popular and many fans were excited about The Waterfront before they'd even seen it. This is definitely giving me the same vibes as Ozark did!' However, now that the show's been released, it's earned a host of new fans who've taken to social media to shower the series with praise. 'I've finished watching The Waterfront,' wrote @VivQi on X. 'It was definitely intense, chaotic, fast paced and entertaining to watch!' @benoistpost added: 'We need season 2 of #TheWaterfront please @Netflix'. Meanwhile, @dariacott admitted they, 'Came for Melissa Benoist, stayed for the plot! Overall, really good show.' On Reddit, Liltwaunnysquirt wrote: 'I enjoyed the show. Reminded me of Ozarks a little bit, certainly not as good, but still thought it was solid.' 'I loved the show,' said Basic-Insect3214. 'Maybe it is because I have not watched the other shows that it is being compared to constantly, so for me as a standalone, it was a good watch.' The series has been compared to Ozark not just because they're both on Netflix, but because both shows depict an otherwise ordinary family pulled into the criminal underworld. In Ozark, the Byrde family moved to the titular region to continue laundering money for a large Mexican drug cartel, leading to several violent confrontations. The Waterfront creator Kevin Williamson told Netflix: 'We've never really seen a story about the commercial fisherman told before in any sort of dramatic way in a family drama. '[The fishing industry] is being taken away from them bit by bit. [The lead characters] will do anything to hold onto it – it represents their family. They also care about the town, and so many people depend on them.' He continued, talking about the plot, which sees the characters having to make millions of dollars very quickly: 'It's about a bunch of people who make mistakes, they do some bad things, and then they get in deeper and deeper and deeper. Have you been watching The Waterfront? 'When you have all these people doing bad things, it's always nice when they do that one good thing that can bring hope back.' Kevin also revealed that the story behind the series is, in part, a personal and autobiographical one, with his father involved in the fishing industry once upon a time. More Trending 'The fishing industry upturned in the '80s – my dad couldn't feed his family. So, someone came along and said, 'Hey, if you do this one thing, you can make all this money' and it was hard to say no to. 'My dad – a very, very good man – got tempted to do some things that weren't so legal and got in some trouble. [But] it put food on the table and it helped me go to college.' The Waterfront is available to watch on Netflix now. (This article was first published on June 19, 2025.) Got a story? Bikini-clad Livvy Dunne hits the beach as she celebrates July 4th weekend with girls' trip to The Hamptons

Social media sensation Livvy Dunne spent her July 4th weekend with a girls' trip to The Hamptons, where she hit the beach and hung out with her friends. Dunne shared the details of her Independence Day on her Instagram story, first offering up some relatable content by sitting in standstill traffic to get to Bridgehampton, New York. Then came Dunne's selfie from the beach, a photo she captioned with red, white, and blue heart emojis. Dunne wore a straw hat while also donning a red and white bikini, laying stomach-first on the beach, just feet from the water. The former LSU gymnast also shared a photo in a white dress, wearing a pair of sunglasses and her tongue sticking out next to friend Lauren Maitland. Not in The Hamptons to celebrate the holiday with Dunne was her boyfriend, Paul Skenes, who was in Seattle with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Dunne has maintained her social-media profile since departing LSU, where she was one of the highest NIL earners in the country. Earlier this month, Dunne was in New York City for Fanatics Fest, and competed against the greatest competitive eater of all-time, Joey Chestnut, in an all-star chicken finger-eating contest. Dunne, DJ Khaled, Fanatics founder Michael Rubin and Julian Edelman all took part in the eating challenge alongside the legendary Chestnut. Dunne stunned attendees of an SI Swimsuit Party by performing the splits back on May 31 The 41-year-old holds dozens of eating records including the most hot dogs (76) in 10 minutes and the most chicken wings (182) in 30 minutes. Chestnut dominated a Raising Cane's contest, putting away 40 tenders in just five minutes. And Dunne's hilarious reaction to Chestnut was caught on camera. In a clip that flooded social media, the gymnast was seen open-mouthed as Chestnut demolished the chicken. At one point, Dunne appeared to retch as she struggled to keep the chicken down. She and Chestnut also posed for a picture to mark the occasion.
