MR, particularly if untreated, has a devastating mortality rate—over 50% of patients may not survive without timely intervention, and 1-year mortality can be as high as 57%.The MyClip TEER System enables precise closure of the mitral valve flaps, effectively preventing the backward flow of purified blood into the lungs. The procedure is minimally invasive, & takes approximately one hour, and allows patients to return home within 3–5 days. After discharge, patients can resume daily activities like walking and non-strenuous work within a short period post the procedure.According to the landmark COAPT Study published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), patients receiving device-based therapy for mitral regurgitation experienced significantly better outcomes compared to those receiving standard medical treatment. Within 24 months, the hospitalization rate for heart failure was reduced to 35.8% per patient-year in the device group, compared to 67.9% in the control group. Additionally, mortality within the same period was notably lower in the device group, at 29.1%, compared to 46.1% in the control group.Currently, approximately 150 TEER (Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair) procedures are performed annually in India, with the majority of patients falling in the younger age group (30 – 60). Turmeric farmers part of PM Modi's vision of $1 billion exports by 2030: Amit Shah
Hyderabad: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, after inaugurating the headquarters of the National Turmeric Board in Nizamabad on Sunday, said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has fulfilled a 40-year-old demand of millions of turmeric farmers across the country, particularly in Telangana. Addressing a farmer's meeting where he had also unveiled the logo of the NTB, he said 'This promise made by the Prime Minister is now being realized. Nizamabad, known as the turmeric capital for decades and a location where farmers have cultivated turmeric for centuries, has not seen its product reach global markets until now.' However, with the formation of the National Turmeric Board, 'Turmeric from Nizamabad will be exported to many countries within the next 3-4 years,' he added. Amit Shah mentioned that once the NTB begins its operations, farmers will be free from the shackles of the middlemen. 'The Board will create a comprehensive chain for turmeric packaging, branding, marketing, and export.' Highlighting the medicinal properties of turmeric, Shah said, 'It is anti-viral, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory, and is recognized worldwide as a wonder drug. Consuming even a small amount can address multiple health issues simultaneously.' He also noted the beginning of production and marketing of GI-tagged organic turmeric.' Amit Shah said that the Centre has set a target of achieving one billion dollars in turmeric exports by 2030, 'with all necessary preparations already in place. The National Turmeric Board will ensure that farmers receive maximum value for their products, promote turmeric consumption in international markets, and publicise the medicinal benefits of Indian turmeric worldwide.' Additionally, the Board will ensure that the quality and safety standards of Indian turmeric meet global benchmarks, arrange for appropriate packaging, and provide training and skill development to farmers on effective harvesting techniques to prevent export-related obstacles. The Union Home Minister further added that research and development on the health benefits of turmeric will be conducted to showcase these advantages globally. He underscored that Nizamabad, Jagtial, Nirmal, and Kamareddy districts of the State are among the top turmeric-producing areas in the country. He recalled that in 2025, turmeric farmers received prices between Rs 18,000 to Rs 19,000 per quintal. Concerted efforts are underway to increase the price to an additional Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,000 per quintal over the next three years. In the 2023-24 season, turmeric was cultivated in 3,00,000 hectares in India, yielding 10.74 lakh tonnes. The Union Minister highlighted that Prime Minister Modi established National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL) to assist farmers engaged in exports and National Cooperative Organics Limited (NCIL) for those involved in organic farming. Shah noted that Modi has cultivated a culture of keeping promises, and the commitment made in 2023 to establish the National Trade Bureau (NTB) has been fulfilled.

New Delhi: The four-member Ax-4 crew were fully immersed in their mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS), Axiom Space said on Sunday. On the fourth day updates, it said Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4) Commander Peggy Whitson, Indian Pilot Shubhanshu Shukla 'Shux', Mission Specialist Sławosz 'Suave' Uznański-Wiśniewski, and Mission Specialist Tibor Kapu are now fully immersed in their mission aboard the ISS wrapping up their day on orbit with a schedule full of scientific research and international outreach." The Ax-4 crew has transitioned smoothly from arrival protocols to hands-on research. With microgravity acclimation behind them, the crew is now diving into a diverse portfolio of experiments that could shape the future of medicine, agriculture, and space exploration, it said. Peggy led the charge on the 4th day with work on the Cancer in LEO-3 investigation. Building on previous Axiom Space missions, this study focuses on how cancer cells behave in microgravity. Specifically, it examines tumour organoids and how a new model of triple-negative breast cancer responds to drug treatments in space. "The goal? To validate earlier findings and potentially unlock new therapeutic strategies that could benefit patients on Earth and astronauts on long-duration missions", Axiom Space said. Shux spent time in the Life Sciences Glovebox (LSG) working on the Myogenesis experiment. This study aims to uncover the biological pathways behind skeletal muscle degradation in space —a major challenge for astronauts. By identifying these mechanisms, researchers hope to develop targeted therapies that could not only protect space travellers but also aid people suffering from muscle-degenerative diseases on Earth. Tibor deployed the Rad Nano Dosimeter, a compact device designed to monitor radiation exposure aboard the space station. Understanding how radiation affects the human body in space is critical for planning future missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond. The data collected could also enhance Earth-based radiation monitoring technologies, benefiting industries from healthcare to environmental science. Tibor began setting up the Vitapric investigation. This plant biology experiment explores how plant growth primers affect the development of microgreens in space. The goal is to enhance the nutritional value of space-grown crops—boosting vitamins, proteins, and minerals--to support sustainable food production for future long-duration missions. In addition, the crew initiated the Cerebral Hemodynamics study, completing the first session after installing the necessary software. Using ultrasound technology, this research explores how blood circulates in the brain under microgravity conditions. The findings could improve our understanding of cardiovascular adaptation in space and inform medical diagnostics and treatments for conditions like stroke and hypertension on Earth. Peggy and Suave are also preparing to join Axiom Space Chief Scientist Dr Lucie Low for a special discussion on space radiation. They'll talk about the radiation research being conducted during Ax-4 and how it could help protect astronauts on future deep space missions.

‘95 crore covered under social security': Modi cites ILO data in MKB
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said over 95 crore Indians were now covered under at least one social security scheme, citing a recent report by the International Labour Organisation (ILO). This marks a significant increase from less than 25 crore beneficiaries in 2015. 'This is not just a number. He added that India now ranked second globally in terms of social security coverage. ILO data is based on Phase 1 of a national data consolidation drive, which covers central schemes and programmes implemented in eight states — Rajasthan, Maharashtra, MP, TN, Odisha, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Assam. Modi said Phase-2 was already under way and would bring data from the remaining states and more sectors, potentially taking the total number of beneficiaries past 100 crore.
