Danny Walker's promising recovery update with 'best-case scenario' revealed
DANNY Walker has issued a promising update on his recovery from injury as he closes in on a return to the Warrington Wolves side.
Having been struck down at the end of April as part of an unprecedented injury crisis this year, the hooker appears to be next in line for a comeback as he nears the end of his rehabilitation following knee surgery.

In the immediate short-term, The Wire's focus will be on making sure their season is still alive when their number nine becomes available again as Walker outlined the 'best-case scenario' for his return.
'I'm doing alright and my recovery has gone really well. Hopefully I've only got three or four weeks left now,' he told the Warrington Guardian.
'I'm back running and I've got another running session for Thursday, so everything is going well so far.
'We're looking at the Leigh game after the break – that would be the best-case scenario I think.
'It's just about pushing it – it's definitely doable but we'll see.'

It was an injury that ticked off an unwanted career-first for the 26-year-old Warringtonian, who has not featured since helping his hometown club beat St Helens in Round Nine.

'It was a lateral meniscus injury. It's meant to be a 16-week recovery, but we've got some great physios that do a lot of good stuff to get that period down,' he said.
'It's a weird one as I don't really remember doing it.

'I just remember training on the Wednesday before Magic Weekend and feeling something in my knee.
'They sent me for a scan and I was just expecting a little tear on something, but I'd done enough to need a big operation.
'It may have started in the Saints game the week before or even before that, but we're still not sure.
'It felt a little bit sore in the Saints game but I just went on with it, but I knew something wasn't right leading up to Magic.
'This was my first ever surgery from a rugby injury. I was a bit gutted about it but it's not been a bad innings having got to this stage without having needed anything like that.

'I've done little things here and there but this has been my first big lay-off. It will make me a better player and a better person, I think.'
As everyone of a Warrington persuasion knows all too well, Walker has had plenty of company in the treatment room at different stages.
Williams, Matty Ashton, Marc Sneyd, Matt Dufty and Oli Leyland have all had significant injuries, as have youngsters Leon Hayes, Cai Taylor-Wray, Arron Lindop and Adam Holroyd.
Walker, Ashton, Leyland and Hayes were forced to sit out the opportunity to play at Wembley in the Challenge Cup Final, which The Wire lost agonisingly to Hull KR.

'You never want a big injury list, but having a lot of company in rehab does help you especially around games like Wembley,' Walker said.
'For myself and Matty Ashton – we like to think we'd have been out there playing had we not been injured but we were glad to have each other there.
'It's difficult to sit and watch games like that.
'We've all been competing with each other on weights and things like that – Cai Taylor-Wray is another one who is going to come back so much better as he's put on a lot of size, so fair play to him.
'It's been so hard to watch. I wear my heart on my sleeve so I have really struggled watching.

'I feel every emotion watching, probably more than I would do playing.
'You just want to be out there helping your teammates out, especially as things haven't been going as well and the boys have been a bit down in the dumps.
'They've been working their socks off, they got a good win at the weekend and hopefully that will build confidence leading into this next block.
'Believe it or not, I don't think we've been too far away on certain things. It's moments where we've been losing it, but we won those at the weekend.
'That's what we've got to keep doing as we've got no second chances now and it's all go.'

Liverpool midfielder ready to explode as club announces new deal
One Liverpool midfielder is ready to explode in pre-season after signing a new deal with the Reds. The club's preparations are now only around the corner. Next week Liverpool will begin their pre-season training sessions on the 7th July before playing their first game against Preston North End on the 13th July. Advertisement It's going to be an exciting time for Liverpool supporters. They will be able to catch a glimpse of the club's new signings, most notably Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong. And there will be pretty much an entirely new goalkeeping department as well, with the only exception of Alisson Becker. He will have new rivals to contend with in Giorgi Mamardashvili, Freddie Woodman and Armin Pecsi. The Reds will be hoping they will be just as competent as Caoimhin Kelleher, Vitezslav Jaros and Harvey Davies. On paper at least, they definitely feel like an upgrade. But it's not just new faces fans will be excited to see, there will be some familiar faces with points to prove as well. Advertisement Chiefly among them will be Trey Nyoni, who Liverpool have just announced has just signed a new contract with the club. His long-term contract is an indicator of just how highly he is rated at the club, after arriving at Anfield just around two years ago. Nyoni is now 18-years-old but already he has played in a number of competitions at first team level for Liverpool, including making his debut in the FA Cup, when he was still only 16-years-old. Speaking to Liverpool about his new contract, Nyoni emphasised that he was ready to prove himself: "Yeah it means a lot," he said. "Obviously supporting the club from young as well. So it's a great feeling but obviously now I have to go out there and show why I've earned this contract." Advertisement These are really encouraging words from a player who is still really young. Let's not forget at the same age Nyoni is now, Steven Gerrard had not even made a single appearance for Liverpool's first team. On the other hand, Nyoni has six games under his belt and has even registered an assist against Accrington Stanley. This is before we even mention the countless pre-season games he has played as well, including that volley at Anfield against Sevilla. Last season, he spent a lot of his time training and learning from the first team. Minutes on the pitch were limited at senior level but it will have been a hugely beneficial campaign for him regardless. Advertisement This time around with pre-season approaching, Nyoni has the opportunity to showcase the club's bosses what he learned and make that step up. Based on his words, he is clearly ready to explode. Whether that will be in the first team or out on loan, remains to be seen.

Star officially completes move to Liverpool
A world-class star is joining Liverpool on July 1st after finally completing his move to the Reds. It's been a busy summer transfer window for Richard Hughes, and it's unlikely to slow down any time soon. Arne Slot wanted new weapons to bolster his squad and he's certainly got that. Florian Wirtz has arrived to give Liverpool more ammunition in the centre of the pitch. Meanwhile, on the flanks Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong will be bombing up and down, using their speed and devastating energy to good effect. In defence, Hughes has reshuffled the goalkeeping department. He's had to contend with three departures this summer with Caoimhin Kelleher leaving on a permanent deal and Vitezslav Jaros and Harvey Davies both leaving on respective loans. Advertisement For the latter two, he brought in Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman, who both have ample amounts of experience. The former is an exciting young talent. Meanwhile, the latter is homegrown and despite being 28-years-old, he's already played a lot of seasons in professional football to make him a worthy third choice. Woodman will be third choice because Hughes secured a move for another world-class goalkeeper last summer. Liverpool announced last year that they had agreed to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia. Contrary to popular belief Mamardashvili was not on loan at Valencia. Hughes agreed to sign him in advance of the 2025/26 season - similar to the deal that saw the Reds complete a move for Naby Keita - one year prior to his arrival at Anfield. In football contracts, end on June 30th for the previous season. That's why for example Trent Alexander-Arnold had to be bought out from his contract by Real Madrid, as he would have only officially become a Real Madrid player on July 1st. Advertisement Now in a similar situation, Mamardashvili's contract at Valencia ended on June 30th. Liverpool brought him out for that contract and signed an agreement with him which officially begins on July 1st. That is at the time of writing on Tuesday, meaning Mamardashvili has finally completed his move to the Reds. He's now a Liverpool player. And in the Georgian goalkeeper, the Reds have secured one of the best young talents in his position. Someone who is more than capable of replacing Kelleher and also fighting for the no.1 spot against Alisson Becker. That's certainly the case according to former Dinamo Tbilisi scout, Mikha Gabechava, who told Anfield Watch he believes Mamardashvili is already 'one of the best in the world.' "I strongly believe that his mentality played a key role in his development - he never doubted himself, and even after all the harsh mistakes at the beginning of his career, he stayed strong, never lost his motivation, and worked tirelessly to become one of the best in the world," he said.

At Wimbledon, a player's lament about loneliness revives a conversation about mental health
LONDON — When Naomi Osaka opened up about her anxiety and depression at the 2021 French Open, it sparked a conversation in sports — and society at large — about mental health and the importance of addressing such issues. In the time since, more and more players have spoken about the topic and seeking help, and whatever taboos there were seem to have faded. Still, the way three-time Grand Slam finalist Alexander Zverev discussed his state of mind after a first-round exit at Wimbledon this week revived the conversation.
