Billionaire Vinod Khosla predicts AI teachers will disrupt education and careers. Here's how
Venture capitalist Vinod Khosla believes artificial intelligence will make traditional college degrees and many elite professions obsolete. In a conversation with Nikhil Kamath, Khosla explained how AI tutors can provide free, personalized education superior to what top institutions offer, enabling students to shift careers without returning to college. He also predicted AI will transform sectors like law, medicine, and finance by offering universally accessible services, making degrees and human gatekeepers outdated.
Vinod Khosla Foresees End of Traditional Careers and Degrees With Rise of AI American billionaire and venture capitalist Vinod Khosla has voiced strong views on the future of education, asserting that artificial intelligence is poised to render traditional college degrees obsolete. In a detailed conversation on Nikhil Kamath's podcast, Khosla discussed how AI-driven tutoring systems could surpass even the most elite human instructors, offering a more accessible and efficient alternative to formal education.Khosla argued that AI will dramatically transform not just how people learn but also who gets to learn. By removing the barriers of cost and geography, he believes AI tutors will create a level playing field where personalized, on-demand education is available to everyone—regardless of income or background.
Khosla painted a future where AI tutors replace expensive private teachers, offering round-the-clock support tailored to each student's needs. He emphasized that these intelligent systems already have the capability to provide better education than what wealthy families can purchase from top institutions. He referenced CK-12, an educational tech platform founded by his wife, as an example of how AI could deliver free, high-quality tutoring to millions. According to him, with such technology, students could switch from one discipline to another—like engineering to medicine—without needing to spend years in a college program.Beyond education, Khosla predicted that AI will significantly impact established professional domains such as law, finance, and healthcare. He suggested that AI could democratize legal services by offering free access to legal expertise, something he believes could relieve pressure on India's overburdened judiciary and improve access to justice for underserved communities.Similarly, he forecasted a time when AI systems would outperform financial advisors, offering high-quality financial guidance regardless of a person's income. Even someone earning as little as Rs 5,000 a month, he said, could receive advice equivalent to what high-net-worth individuals currently pay for.Khosla framed these technological advancements not just as upgrades but as tools for societal transformation. In his view, AI doesn't merely streamline tasks—it redistributes power by eliminating traditional gatekeepers. He emphasized that degrees and credentialing systems are becoming irrelevant in a world where AI offers direct access to knowledge and expertise.

Top Google Executive Warns AI Is Coming For Your Job: 'There Is No Middle Class'
A former Google top executive has warned that the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) could disrupt society as the technology eats away jobs, rendering the middle class non-existent. Mo Gawdat, who left Google X as its chief business officer in 2018, said the 'hell' will begin as early as 2027 as AI eliminates white-collar jobs, with no one spared, including software developers, CEOs, and podcasters. "The next 15 years will be hell before we get to heaven," Mr Gawdat told British entrepreneur Steven Bartlett on his "Diary of a CEO" podcast. Citing his own startup, which builds emotional and relationship-focused AI, Mr Gawdat said the company is run by just three people. "That startup would have been 350 developers in the past. As a matter of fact, podcaster is going to be replaced." Mr Gawdat said the emergence of AI will trigger 'social unrest' as people still come to terms with losing their livelihoods and sense of purpose, resulting in rising rates of mental health problems, increased loneliness and deepening social divisions. "Unless you're in the top 0.1 per cent, you're a peasant. There is no middle class," he predicted. "AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) is going to get better at everything than humans, at everything, including being a CEO. The one thing they don't think of is AI will replace them, too." Watch: Sydney Sweeney Given 'Digital Snan' At Sangam, Video Viral AI's own language The warning by Mr Gawdat comes in the backdrop of Geoffrey Hinton, regarded by many as the 'godfather of AI', stating that the technology could soon develop its own language, making it impossible for humans to track the machines. "Now it gets more scary if they develop their own internal languages for talking to each other," said Mr Hinton. "I wouldn't be surprised if they developed their own language for thinking, and we have no idea what they're thinking." Mr Hinton added that AI has already demonstrated that it can think terrible thoughts, and it is not unthinkable that the machines could eventually think in ways that humans cannot track or interpret.

Bengaluru's ambitious Hebbal-Silk Board underground tunnel attracts biggest names like Adani and Tata; estimated cost..., last date to submit...
(Representational image: New Delhi: Bengaluru, the capital of the southern state Karnataka and called Asia's Silicon Valley, has been in the news for various reasons, ranging from water shortage to bad roads that do not befit a world-class metropolitan city. Nevertheless, the development work is going on there, and this time it is related to Bengaluru's ambitious Hebbal–Silk Board underground tunnel. What is the Hebbal–Silk Board underground tunnel project? The proposed 16.75-km tunnel road that will connect the Central Silk Board to Hebbal has attracted 10 of India's top construction firms. These include the Adani Group, L&T Ltd, and Tata Projects. The representatives of these firms attended a pre-bid meeting held at the headquarters of Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Ltd (B-SMILE) in Vasanthnagar on Monday, 4 August. What is the role of B-SMILE? B-SMILE is a special purpose vehicle (SPV) created by the Karnataka government to fast-track major infrastructure projects in Bengaluru. It had invited tenders to design and construct the three-lane underground twin tunnel road about three weeks ago. How many companies have responded to the tender? As mentioned, India's top 10 construction firms sent their representatives to the pre-bid meeting held at the headquarters of B-SMILE. These companies include the Adani Group, L&T Ltd, Tata Projects, Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd, ITD Cementation India, Vishwa Samudra Engineering Ltd, Jayashankar, Ceigall India Ltd, Afcons Infrastructure Ltd, and IRB Infrastructure sent their representatives to the meeting as well. What are the terms and conditions? This is being counted as among the first few steps, and it remains to be seen how many players will remain in the fray for the project, which is being taken up under the modified build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) model. According to the BOOT model, the construction companies are expected to invest 60% of the project cost (Rs 10,619 crore), besides depositing Rs 44 crore at the time of submitting the bids. In return, the government will provide toll collection rights for 30 years. What are the main details of the tunnel project and tenders? The estimated cost of the project is Rs 17,698 crore and has been divided into two packages: Hebbal Junction to Seshadri Road Race Course Junction (8.74 km) and Seshadri Road to Silk Board (8.01 km). The last date to submit bids is September 2. Technical Director at B-SMILE BS Prahallad, while expressing satisfaction over the response, said, 'Top construction companies have sent their representatives. Some have requested us to extend the last date for bid submission given the complexity of the project. They also raised queries about land allocation for debris disposal and the casting yard. We are confident that many will participate in the final bidding.' The crux of the project According to the source privy to the meeting, bidders sought more time, specifically to undertake geotechnical investigations along the proposed corridor. Under the plan, construction companies are required to deploy a total of eight Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs), each capable of drilling around 2 km per year. The three-lane underground twin tunnel road, which will have a total tunnelling length of 33.49 km, has already come under environmental, feasibility and technical scrutiny from different stakeholders.
