Patna Metro's ‘blue line' set for launch by I-Day
Patna: Patna's first metro corridor, the 'blue line', is expected to become operational within the next 60 days. This elevated section of Corridor II (Patna Junction–ISBT) of the Patna Metro Rail Project is nearly complete.
The 6.49-km route includes five elevated stations – Malahi Pakri, Khemnichak, Bhoothnath, Zero Mile and ISBT. Metro officials said 90% of the work on the priority corridor has been completed and operations are scheduled to begin by Aug 15, 2025. "Final touches are being given at some stations while others are in the last phase of civil and electrical works. Installation of tracks and electric poles is ongoing," they said.
U-girders have been placed at Khemnichak, platform casting has started at ISBT and purlin installation is underway at Bhoothnath station. Civil works at the ISBT Metro Rail Depot – spanning 76 acres – are complete with finishing work in progress. Regular review meetings are being held to meet the project deadline.
Urban development and housing minister Jibesh Kumar said the corridor was in its final stage. "The state govt is working with full commitment to provide a modern, fast and environmentally friendly public transport system," he said.

The depot at Baririya Chak will feature advanced facilities including two workshop bays, three inspection bays, a testing track, eight stabling bays for 32 three-coach trains and an auto-coach washing unit. The development area will also include an auditorium, training school, canteen, and operational control centre. An auxiliary substation of 2,500 KVA will support the power needs of the depot.
Each metro station will consist of two levels – concourse and platform.
The concourse will house ticket counters, waiting areas, information kiosks, public announcement systems, check-in/out facilities, food courts, retail shops and accessibility features such as lifts, escalators and stairways.
Khemnichak station, a key interchange, will have three levels and two platforms, allowing seamless connectivity between Corridor I (Danapur–Khemnichak) and Corridor II.
The Patna Metro project has an estimated cost of Rs 13,925 crore. The state govt will cover 20% of the cost (excluding land acquisition), another 20% will come from the Centre and the remaining 60% will be funded through a loan from JICA.

NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Railways has rationalised the basic fares for passenger train services, effective from July 1 this year. The changes apply to AC and non-AC reserved classes of mail and express trains. In an official circular issued on Monday, the Railways detailed the fare revisions, stating that non-AC class fares in mail and express trains have been increased by 1 paisa per kilometre, while all AC classes have seen a hike of 2 paisa per kilometre. Suburban trains and monthly season tickets (MST) have been exempted from the fare increase, citing the broader interest of daily commuters. There has been no change in the fare for ordinary second class travel up to 500 km. However, beyond this distance, a modest increase of half a paisa per kilometre has been implemented. Ordinary sleeper class and first-class passengers will also incur an extra charge of half a paisa per kilometre from July 1. 'No increase up to 500km but an increase by Rs 5 for distance 5,012 to 1,500 kms and an increase in fare by Rs 10 for distance 1,501 to 2,500 km have been made', remarked the government circular. The circular also stated that for journeys exceeding 2,501 to 3,000 km, there is an increase of Rs 15 in fare, in addition to a 0.5 paisa per kilometre rise in sleeper class charges. For AC chair car, AC-3 tier or 3-Economy, AC 2-tier, and AC First/Executive Class (Anubhuti), the fare has been increased by 2 paisa per kilometre. 'The fair revision also applies to premier and special trains services like Rajdhani, Shatabadi, Duranto, Vande Bharat, Tejas- Rajdhani, Humsafar, Amrit Bharat, Mahamana, Gatimaan, Antyodaya, Jan -Shatabadi, Yuva Express, AC Vistadome coaches, Anubhuti coaches, and ordinary non-suburban services in accordance with revised class-wise fare structure,' a senior railway official said. The ministry has clarified that there will be no increase in reservation charges, super fast surcharges, or other additional charges. 'The GST will continue to be levied as per applicable', the circular read. The Ministry of Railway said that tickets issued prior to July 1 will remain valid at the existing fare, with no fare adjustment.'

Defence Ministry to clear Rs 1 lakh crore worth of military deals post Op Sindoor
The Ministry of Defence is set to approve military proposals worth over Rs 1 lakh crore in a key meeting scheduled this week. This will be the first acquisition meeting since Operation Sindoor, aiming to enhance the capabilities of India's armed to defence officials who spoke to India Today, the proposals include a range of critical defence systems such as spy planes, sea mines, air defence missiles, and underwater autonomous major highlight of the meeting will be the likely clearance of three new regiments of the indigenous Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile (QRSAM) systems for the Indian Army. This project is expected to strengthen India's air defence along the Pakistan border. The QRSAM systems, developed by the DRDO, will be manufactured by Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited. The Indian Air Force is also expected to push forward a proposal to procure three spy planes under the Intelligence, Surveillance, Targeting and Reconnaissance (I-STAR) programme. Technopark jobs grow 27 per cent over past five years
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Had it been a local body, Technopark would have surpassed Kerala's several municipalities in terms of total population! India's first IT park, which turns 35 years this month, currently provides jobs to over 80,000 people. In the past five years, Technopark achieved a significant growth in terms of the number of jobs and software exports by companies. 'The number of employees rose by 27%, from 63,000 in 2020-21 to 80,000 in 2024-25. And 45% of them are women. The park ensures a secure and empowering environment for women,' said IT Secretary Sambasiva Rao. Revenue from software exports registered 56% growth in four years - from Rs 8,501 crore in FY 2021 to Rs 13,255 crore in FY 2024 (data for FY 2025 is unavailable). With a total builtup space of 12.72 million square feet, the park now hosts over 500 IT/ITeS companies including MNCs, SMEs and Startups. Technopark's founding CEO G Vijayaraghavan, termed the five-year growth a positive development. 'This achievement should be viewed in the backdrop of the IT industry's stagnation globally. 27% growth in jobs is a big feat and we have the potential to achieve more,' he told TNIE. 'Economic development via job generation park's motto' 'At the time of its inception, many were sceptical about our goal of providing 5,000 direct and 25,000 indirect jobs. Technopark was an early bird and time has proved us right. Economic development through employment generation is the park's motto,' he said. According to the IT secretary, several factors contributed to the park's growth despite adversities like the pandemic. 'We could effectively explore the rising demand for digital transformation services globally. The increased traction for Global Capability Centres, the state's robust innovation and skilling system and the government's infrastructure and startup support initiatives were other factors,' Sambasiva Rao said. 'Kerala is unique for its good connectivity, greenery and availability of clean air and water. With low operating costs, high quality social infrastructure, and rapidly evolving urban amenities, the state's cities are emerging as ideal destinations to work, live and thrive.
