Orlando Pirates appoint new captain ahead of 2025/26 season
Orlando Pirates have confirmed the appointment of the club's new captain and vice-captains ahead of the start of the 2025/26 season.
Nkosinathi Sibisi has been named as the Buccaneers' new skipper, taking over from Innocent Maela, who retired at the end of last season.

'Bhodlela', as Sibisi is affectionately known in football circles, will be assisted by Thapelo Xoki and Mbekezeli Mbokazi, who have been named as vice-captains.
'The position of captain has been vacant since the departure of long-serving defender Innocent Maela. Maela has led from 2022 to date, having taken over from another stalwart and legend, Happy Jele,' read a statement from Pirates.
'In keeping with club tradition, the appointment came directly from the players themselves through a confidential voting process.
'Emerging as the team's clear choice to wear the captain's armband is defender Nkosinathi Sibisi.'
Speaking on his new captaincy announcement, Sibisi said: 'It is truly an honour and privilege to be named captain of this great institution. It's a responsibility that I accept and promise to fulfil the role in the best way I possibly can.'

Sibisi captained the Buccaneers for most of the previous campaign as Olisa Ndah and Tapelo Xoki were injured, while Maela spent more time on the bench.
Pirates kick off the 2025/26 season on Saturday with an MTN8 quarterfinal clash against Polokwane City at the Orlando Stadium.

Tinkler's new look Sekhukhune United pass first test
Bradley Grobler celebrates scoring on debut for Sekhukhune United, helping fire Babina Noko into the MTN8 semi-finals. Photo: Backpagepix Image: Backpagepix Sekhukhune United's off-season rebuild began paying immediate dividends as their refreshed squad delivered a thrilling 3-2 comeback win over TS Galaxy to book a place in the MTN8 semi-finals. Babina Noko twice had to come from behind in the five-goal contest, with 37-year-old striker Bradley Grobler announcing his arrival in emphatic style by scoring twice on debut. The result means Eric Tinkler's side will now meet Stellenbosch FC in the semi-finals — a rematch of the final-day league clash that saw Stellies pip them to third place last season. Tinkler, who oversaw one of the most active transfer windows in the league, handed debuts to several signings, including two promising youngsters in Olerato Mandi and Medupi Thokolo. "Olerato, who played as a No 10, has only been with the group for about four weeks, but I felt it was better to start him and take him off if needed. And Medupi, who came from Casric Stars, gave a really solid showing in central defence—even if we are asking him to adapt to a new, possession-based style.' But the headline act was undoubtedly Grobler, the former SuperSport United talisman, who twice pulled Sekhukhune level with clinical finishes—his experience proving vital in a game of fine margins. Stellenbosch vs Kaizer Chiefs: Date, Kick-Off Time, Venue, Predicted XI
Kaizer Chiefs will kick off their 2025/26 Betway Premiership season against Stellenbosch FC this coming weekend. Having spent three weeks in the Netherlands for their pre-season, Amakhosi returned to the country end of July, where they played Asante Kotoko in the Toyota Cup. Despite going down on penalties, Nasreddine Nabi's men showed intent and looked positive at times. This weekend, they face a Stellies side that edged out AmaZulu 3-2 in the MTN8 quarter-finals at home. Having played one competitive match, the Cape side will probably have an edge, given they are playing at home. Amakhosi will play Stellenbosch FC on Sunday (10 August) at 17:30 at the Cape Town Stadium. Last season, Chiefs won all three encounters and will go into the clash feeling confident. The Glamour Boys have gotten the better of Stellies and that might play in their hands if they start the match well. If Chiefs concede early, they might struggle to come back, given their problems in front of goals. In six matches played in pre-season, Amakhosi only netted three times. Brandon Petersen (GK) Thabiso Monyane (RB) Miguel Inacio (CB) Aden McCarthy (CB) Bradley Cross (LB) Siphesihle Ndlovi (DM) Thabo Cele (CM) Nkosingiphile Ngcobo (AM) Glody Lilepo (LW) Pule Mmodi (RW) Flavio Silva (ST) Kaizer Chiefs are not in the MTN8 competition after failing to finish in the top 8 last season.
