Man riding e-bike attacked by grizzly bear in B.C., suffers 'significant' injuries
The province's Conservation Officer Service says in a post on Facebook that the attack happened at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday along the Kootenay River near West Creston, B.C.
The post says a couple were e-biking along the river when the woman heard her husband scream, then saw a bear running toward her.
The service says the woman used bear spray on the animal to deter it, then saw a second one attacking her husband.
The woman then used the bear spray again, and both bears ran off as a result.
The man was taken to hospital in Cranbrook, B.C., via ambulance and underwent surgery for unspecified injuries.
The service says three major trails in the area have been closed while officers scoured the vicinity and set traps, but no bears were spotted or captured.

The allegations have not been tested in court and neither Stronach nor Magna have filed a statement of defence at this time. Stronach's civil lawyer, Sarit Batner, says he 'strenuously denies the allegations and will vigorously defend this lawsuit.' Magna declined to comment, citing the ongoing legal claim. The 92-year-old tycoon was charged last year with 18 counts _ including sexual assault and indecent assault — related to 13 complainants, with some allegations dating back to the 1970s. He's expected to face trial on 12 of the counts in Toronto early next year, and has pleaded not guilty in that case. Another trial is set to take place later in Newmarket on the remaining counts. Stronach has denied all allegations against him. Boon is not among the complainants in the criminal cases, none of whom can be identified due to a standard publication ban. Sentencing submissions expected today for girl in deadly swarming attack
TORONTO — Sentencing submissions are expected today for a teen girl found guilty of manslaughter in a fatal swarming attack on a homeless Toronto man. The teen was one of eight girls between the ages of 13 and 16 who were arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the death of Kenneth Lee. The other seven girls pleaded guilty to lesser charges — five to manslaughter, one to assault and one to assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm. This girl, who was 14 at the time of the attack, also tried to plead guilty to manslaughter at the start of her trial, but her plea was rejected by the Crown. Man faces two first-degree murder charges in alleged hit and run in Alberta
GLEICHEN — An Alberta man faces murder charges in the deaths of two men who police say were struck by a vehicle while they were walking with a group of people over the weekend.
