The traditional Kiss Cam has reportedly been replaced by the 'Coldplay Cam' at sporting events across the US, following a controversy involving Astronomer Inc. CEO Andy Byron.
The Kiss Cam, which brought all attention to technology firm Astronomer Inc. CEO Andy Byron and his colleague, Kristin Cabot, during a Coldplay concert, has reportedly been replaced by the 'Coldplay Cam'.
According to a social media post, the cam has been replaced at sporting events across the country. The development comes after Byron submitted his resignation following the controversy.
WHAT IS A KISS CAM?
According to the information available on the internet, the kiss cam trend is a social pastime that takes place during arena, stadium and court sporting events in the United States and Canada.
A kiss cam scans the crowd and selects a couple, whose images are shown on the Jumbotron screens in the arena.
The kiss cam tradition originated in California in the early 1980s, as a way to fill in the gaps in play in professional baseball games, taking advantage of the possibilities of the then-new giant video screens.
When the kiss cam is in action, the audience may be alerted by a known 'kiss-related' song being played, and/or an announcer warning the crowd.
The crowd then pays attention to the marked 'kiss cam' video screen.
Usually, several consecutive couples are selected, appear on the screen, and are then expected to kiss.
THE COLDPLAY CONCERT AND ANDY BYRON CONTROVERSY
Andy Byron resigned as the CEO of Astronomer Inc. on Saturday after a video of him embracing an alleged colleague at the Coldplay concert went viral and fueled relentless memes.
'Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met," New York-based Astronomer mentioned in a statement shared on LinkedIn.
'Andy Byron has tendered his resignation," the firm said, after previously launching an investigation.
During a Coldplay concert in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on Wednesday, the jumbotron zoomed in on a man and a woman embracing in the stands.
But the canoodling pair appeared shocked and horrified when they spotted themselves on the big screen, with the man ducking out of frame and the woman hiding her face.
'Uh-oh, what? Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy," joked Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
Within hours, internet sleuths tracked down the man as Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and said the woman was the company's chief people officer, Kristin Cabot, alleging that the two were having a not-so-discreet affair.
The video has garnered millions of views on multiple social media platforms, giving rise to memes discussing everything from the folly of having an affair at a Coldplay concert to the hypocrisy of an HR representative seemingly caught in a workplace relationship.

Kristin Cabot's first spotting since Coldplay ‘kiss cam' row reveals key marriage detail

Kristin Cabot resigned as the HR chief of Astronomer days after the Colplay 'kiss cam' scandal broke. She and former CEO Andy Byron were spotted cuddling at the band's show in Boston earlier this month, sparking a massive 'cheating' and 'affair' row. Cabot was recently spotted, however, without a wedding ring, indicating her marriage might be in trouble. Kristin is married to Andrew Cabot, the owner of Privateer Rum.(X/@candybarr2009) The Daily Mail on Thursday published photos of Cabot watering plants outside her home. She was seen wearing a pink dress with an overcoat. The 52-year-old mother, barefoot, was standing next to the plant beds at her New Hampshire home. According to the New York Post, the former HR chief was previously married to Kenneth Thornby, but they divorced in 2022. Hindustan Times was unable to verify these details. The former couple reportedly shares at least one child. The Post noted that Cabot then married Privateer Rum CEO Andrew Cabot, who was in Japan during the Coldplay concert mishap. Astronomer on Thursday confirmed that its executive in charge of human resources has left. 'Kristin Cabot is no longer with Astronomer, she has resigned," spokesman Taylor Jones said in a brief statement. Binned batteries to power India's lithium boom

Rajkot: Gujarat is set to give the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' mission a significant push in lithium—the 'white gold' indispensable for powering gadgets and e-vehicles—while also extracting the metal without polluting the environment. Scientists at the Bhavnagar-based Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSMCRI) developed a clean, fast, and selective method to extract lithium from disposed batteries. This discovery could significantly reduce India's import bills as the country imports 100% of its lithium requirement. This study was recently published in Angewandte Chemie International Edition, a leading peer reviewed chemistry journal by the German Chemical Society. Scientists say the technology will also give the much-needed momentum to India's rapid shift to green energy and lower dependence on fossil fuels. On average, one ton of lithium requires processing about 28 tons of battery waste. The metal is recovered only after several stages of processes that are slow, inefficient, and costly, often resulting in metal contamination and loss, and the purity is also not high. This also deters battery producers from extracting lithium from waste. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Many Are Watching Tariffs - Few Are Watching What Nvidia Just Launched Seeking Alpha Read More Undo The conventional process, after recovering the black powder, first involves leaching all metals like nickel, cobalt, and manganese in the battery's cathode, resulting in significant loss and contamination. If scaled up after commercial application, businesses handling waste batteries could get a big encouragement and better price. At present, waste battery handling is not a lucrative business due to pollution and the small quantity of lithium obtained. CSMCRI's scientists have turned the problem on its head. Instead of lithium coming out last, their new method pulls lithium out first—with purity. After recovering the black powder from used lithium-ion batteries, anthraquinone salt and hydrogen peroxide are applied to selectively extract lithium. Kannan Srinivasan, director of CSIR-CSMCRI, said, "This method avoids the harsh chemicals and high-energy use of existing processes." Lead researcher and Principal Scientist Alok Ranjan Paital said, "We achieved 97% lithium leaching efficiency in just one hour. Also, compared to 2–3 days required by traditional methods to extract one ton of lithium, this new technique delivers the same results in just 2–3 hours with higher purity. " Scientists also successfully synthesised new battery materials, proving its practical viability. "This greener method could help ease pressure on lithium mining and support a sustainable lithium supply chain," said principal scientist Kanti Bhooshan Pandey. CSMCRI is already in talks with industry players for commercial adoption.
