When Rajinikanth reached Sridevi's door to propose and confess his feelings but couldn't say a word

While ChaalBaaz is often remembered for the unforgettable double role portrayed by the late, legendary Sridevi, who slipped into both characters as effortlessly as water takes to its flow. Fans also fondly recall the on-screen chemistry she shared with Rajinikanth. By the time the film released, the two had already worked together in over a dozen films, becoming one of the most beloved and iconic pairs in Indian cinema. But behind the dazzling performances and cinematic camaraderie lay an unrequited love story few know.
During the early years of their collaboration, Rajinikanth reportedly developed strong feelings for Sridevi. Their effortless chemistry lit up screens across Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi cinema. Yet, very few were aware that Rajinikanth once intended to ask for her hand in marriage. Filmmaker K. Balachander, who was instrumental in shaping both their careers, once shared a poignant incident: Rajinikanth had arrived at Sridevi's housewarming party, determined to confess his love. But just as he reached, a sudden power outage left the house in complete darkness. Deeply superstitious, Rajinikanth took it as a sign, an ill omen, and quietly walked away. He never spoke of his feelings again. In 1996, Sridevi went on to marry producer Boney Kapoor.

Their journey together had started decades earlier on the sets of the 1976 Tamil film Moondru Mudichu, directed by K. Balachander himself. Sridevi was just 13 years old at the time, portraying Rajinikanth's stepmother in what would become a landmark film for both artists. It marked Sridevi's first lead role and Rajinikanth's breakthrough performance in Tamil cinema. Off-screen, their relationship was rooted in mutual respect and enduring affection. Rajinikanth shared a close bond with Sridevi's mother, and their families remained connected for decades. When Rajinikanth fell seriously ill during the shooting of Rana, Sridevi reportedly fasted and prayed for his recovery for seven days.

Woman secretly records Rapido driver, body shames him; viral post sparks outrage online

A video circulating on social media has sparked widespread outrage after a woman secretly filmed her Rapido driver and body-shamed him, leading to outrage online. In the clip, which has now gone viral, the woman claimed she was forced to cancel her Rapido ride because there wasn't enough space for her to sit. She alleged that the rider was occupying too much space and also had a large backpack, which left her with no room to ride pillion. Without informing the rider, the woman filmed him from behind and mocked his appearance. Speaking in Hindi, she said, 'Rapido wala bulaya, Rapido wala dekh rahe ho? Main chupke video bana rahi hoon, jyada offend na ho jaye, but main kaha baithungee? Koi mujhe batayega, b**od..' While she claimed she didn't want to offend the driver, social media users pointed out the hypocrisy and condemned the woman for body-shaming and violating the man's privacy by recording him without his consent. The video has triggered a wave of angry responses online. Many users called out the woman's insensitivity and pointed out that mocking someone's body type, especially a stranger at work, is unacceptable. One user wrote, 'She thinks that shaming a hardworking, honest man is good. She could have simply cancelled the ride, but she chose to record a video and mocked him online in front of millions." Another commented, 'It's really disheartening to see someone go out of their way to shame a hardworking person just trying to do their job. If she had an issue, canceling the ride would've been enough. But choosing to record and mock him publicly in front of millions? That says more about her than him. We should uplift honesty and hard work—not humiliate it.' Several users also raised privacy concerns, with one post reading, 'Recording someone without consent and then shaming them on social media should be taken seriously.'

Kites from Kudla to soar at kite festival in France

Mangaluru: Team Mangalore, a hobby group of kite flyers led by Sarvesh Rao from Mangaluru, is all set to represent India at the world's biggest international kite festival, scheduled to be held in France from Sept 13. Known for their culturally themed giant kites, the team will showcase a chariot-shaped kite known as 'Kudla Ratha' and another highlighting the importance of water conservation titled 'Water is Life', continuing their tradition of blending Indian heritage with environmental messages on a global stage. For the past nine days, the team has been working on the chariot-themed kite, which will be 18ft tall and 10ft wide. The artistic design of the kite was created by artist Dinesh Holla, with Pranesh Kudroli, Satish Rao, and Arun contributing to the construction. The kite is being stitched by Sarvesh Rao. This is the ninth time that the team is participating in the kite festival in France, which will be held until Sept 21 and will see the participation of five new members.
