Germany has rejected the European Commission's €2 trillion ($2.3 trillion) budget proposal, hours after it was announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels.
'A comprehensive increase in the EU budget is unacceptable at a time when all member states are making considerable efforts to consolidate their national budgets,' the German government chief spokesman said in a statement. 'We will therefore not be able to accept the commission's proposal.'

Yara says it will invest in US ammonia projects

(Reuters) -Yara, one of the world's largest producers of fertilisers, said on Friday it planned to renew its ammonia portfolio by investing in projects in the U.S., as part of a push to improve shareholder returns. "With the combination of cost reduction, portfolio optimization and a tightening nitrogen markets, Yara's financial position is set to strengthen with increased free cash flow and sustained profitability," CEO Svein Tore Holsether said in a statement. "At the same time, we are ahead of plan in our cost and (capital expenditure) reduction program," Holsether added. The Norwegian group embarked in 2024 on a $300 million cost and capex-cutting plan, which it said was so far ahead of schedule. "So far, it suggests a Q4 2025 run rate of $2.35 billion excluding currency effects, which would represent $180 million in annual fixed cost savings net of inflation," Yara said. It reported adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of $652 billion for the April-June period, below analysts' expectations that expected it to reach $668 billion, according to a company-provided consensus. Solid State's (LON:SOLI) Dividend Will Be £0.0167

The board of Solid State plc (LON:SOLI) has announced that it will pay a dividend of £0.0167 per share on the 30th of September. Despite the cut, the dividend yield of 1.4% will still be comparable to other companies in the industry. This technology could replace computers: discover the 20 stocks are working to make quantum computing a reality. Solid State's Future Dividend Projections Appear Well Covered By Earnings Unless the payments are sustainable, the dividend yield doesn't mean too much. Prior to this announcement, the company was paying out 278% of what it was earning, however the dividend was quite comfortably covered by free cash flows at a cash payout ratio of only 39%. Given that the dividend is a cash outflow, we think that cash is more important than accounting measures of profit when assessing the dividend, so this is a mitigating factor. According to analysts, EPS should be several times higher next year. If recent patterns in the dividend continue, we could see the payout ratio reaching 66% which is fairly sustainable. See our latest analysis for Solid State Dividend Volatility Although the company has a long dividend history, it has been cut at least once in the last 10 years. Since 2015, the dividend has gone from £0.017 total annually to £0.025. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 3.9% a year over that time. We're glad to see the dividend has risen, but with a limited rate of growth and fluctuations in the payments the total shareholder return may be limited. Dividend Growth Potential Is Shaky With a relatively unstable dividend, it's even more important to see if earnings per share is growing. Solid State's earnings per share has shrunk at 35% a year over the past five years. Such rapid declines definitely have the potential to constrain dividend payments if the trend continues into the future. On the bright side, earnings are predicted to gain some ground over the next year, but until this turns into a pattern we wouldn't be feeling too comfortable. Solid State's Dividend Doesn't Look Sustainable Overall, the dividend looks like it may have been a bit high, which explains why it has now been cut. The company is generating plenty of cash, which could maintain the dividend for a while, but the track record hasn't been great. Overall, we don't think this company has the makings of a good income stock. Market movements attest to how highly valued a consistent dividend policy is compared to one which is more unpredictable. Meanwhile, despite the importance of dividend payments, they are not the only factors our readers should know when assessing a company.
